Also, Hong Kong used to be a refuge where mainlanders mostly from Southern China swam to for freedom and economic opportunity.

I didn't follow what happened after the 1997 handover, but obviously there's been no point to that for the last 20+ years.

Yep it's true sadly. Many hk locals have emigrated and many mainlanders have come in and work HK jobs now. I'm considering it a form of cultural genocide for the govt to make it so in hospitable to live in HK anymore
