I think you are right. I got a DM from the mod and it’s about the same answer. I guess I perceived a community that was edgy and ironic and tried to ask my question in an edgy ironic way but didn’t know that the community is primed to not take well to that.

Credible Defense was a page where people could talk about the militaries of different countries, noncredible was the circle jerk/shitpost/meme page offshoot they made for it, which ended up becoming a bigger deal than the original page.
But yeah, you're missing out on some great Ukrainian memes, but also a lot of unironic stanning for weapons manufacturers and intelligence agencies, so it's a real mixed bag. Like, they're super pro-queer but I kinda think that's only because Putin is a homophobic transphobic piece of shit and if the situation were reversed I'm not sure how they'd be.
As to why you got banned - I'm totally speculating, but I'm pretty sure they've been hit by lots of trolls and spam and whatnot because of the controversial nature of what they meme about, so if they think for even half a second that you're a sealion or some other kind of troll they'll ban you because they see that a lot.
A few of the mods and power users on the subreddit were trans or gay, also to take the piss out of the "stronk manly man" image the Russian forces, and other special forces, try to project.
They were pro-queer before Putin's war, they always have been I think

I've always felt a little out of the loop about that community too. My best guess is maybe it's just for people who want to make memes about tanks and stuff, while staying detached from the actual politics of whatever situation they're meme'ing about.
It's difficult to explain really, you either get it or you don't, but it's about defense themed shitposting and nutty ideas for weapons and defense strategies.
The community, and the subreddit it branched off from, is very pro Ukraine, pro NATO though.
it's definitely not detached from political stuff, but it's definitely much less serious. think of it as war/political shitposting community

It's kind of a shitposting community for people who are interested in history and war, they're an alright group of people tho (there are way worse communities on here) and most their stuff makes me laugh.

Nah, I got banned from that sub for the spicy take of "nuclear war is bad", and I got banned from Political Memes for the misinformation of "MLK did not support exclusively working within the system, and asking nicely did not win civil rights", with citations and everything.

I’m not a furry, though I accept peoples right to be furries and think it’s a generally harmless interest that gets way more hate than it deserves. (And I’m very queer, for context)
I think furries just got nickelbacked. Is nickelback worse than, say, incubus or sum 41? Not objectively, but if I make a joke about a sum 41 community blocking someone, it’s confusing. Furries (and nickelback) are used as foils by people for “unpleasant media.”
That’s not fair to people who enjoy the medium nor is it fair to the talented and hardworking artists who create it, but it’s a cultural meme that’s going to be hard to stop.

Nope, tankie refers to someone who supports using military force against civilians, typically to quell an uprising. Those people do tend to be Internet communists these days.

Mine doesn't need historical context, a tankie is someone who likes tanks, jet fighters, battleships, trebuchets, etc. You know, large-scale murder fanbois.
