I always loved these hybrid gun designs. With modern safety features, they might almost be practical
I'd argue that they were effective in their day. Carry them with no powder in the pan outside of conflict for safety. Then in conflict if you're a soldier it doesn't matter because the dangers of battle couldn't hold a candle towards the dangers of staying in camp with loads of diseases.
