Those of you who shower barehanded: Do you lather and then use your hand, or just shove the soap wherever it needs to go?

who shower barehanded
There is another way...?
What? What kind of heathen doesn't have a pair of heavy duty work gloves for showering? Am I the only civilized one among us?!
Personally I never get in the shower without my circular saw
Here is an alternative Piped link(s): https://piped.video/jaOBzTJB7yc?t=54
Piped is a privacy-respecting open-source alternative frontend to YouTube.
I'm open-source, check me out at GitHub.
Wtf did I just watch… and why did I watch the whole damn thing!?
Same reason I did. If you figure it out please let me know.
This is wonderful
Personally I never shower.
My local supermarket sells these "exfoliating gloves" that you wear in the shower and basically just use like a wearable washcloth. They're awesome.
I love these, it's the best of both worlds. You get the scrubbing and exfoliating of a wash cloth with all the ease and precise control of hands.
They're like $4 I highly recommend them to everyone.
Arc welding is my favorite shower activity. You need ppe
What if you only have PP? Where to get the E?
Vanuatan pharmacies are a popular choice
ඞ
I imagine they mean without a cloth, poof, or loofa. As a kid I would put body wash in my hand, lather, and rub it over my body. But it tended to use up soap quickly so either I had to add more soap part way through or the things I washed last didn’t get washed well. Which is why I switched to a poof.
A "washandje" of course!
a washandje
That sounds like something you ask for at an unlicensed massage parlour
I use the korean version of that
Ahh yes the manhwash
you dont wear shower mittens?
the people on this federation, i fucking swear.
Wash cloths?
I have some stupid questions from someone who rolls barehanded...
-
How do you get the soap to lather well when using a wash cloth? I tried it once but it didn't work all that well.
-
Are you supposed to use a new washcloth every time you shower? If yes, how many washcloths do you go through a week and how much does this add to your laundry bulk. If no, aren't you kind of grossed out by a used, wet, bacteria filled rag being rubbed all over you?
I once saw a post from someone not understanding how bare handers could possibly get clean from only using their hands. But...it's not like you use a washcloth when you wash your hands and no one is grossed out by that. Why are people then randomly grossed out when you apply that to showering? The action of soap with mechanical disruption, be it with your bare hands or a washcloth, does well to remove grime and bacteria.
To the OP, I lather in my hands with a bar of soap and then wash my body with my sudsy hands...going back to the bar of soap and even "washing my hands" often enough when necessary.
I use an exfoliating washcloth like this. It lathers really well. Scrubs off the dead skin and it's long so you can scratch your back. It air dries fast.
How do you get the soap to lather well when using a wash cloth? I tried it once but it didn’t work all that well.
It lathers better than soap/hands for me.
Are you supposed to use a new washcloth every time you shower? If yes, how many washcloths do you go through a week and how much does this add to your laundry bulk.
Not I. I change mine weekly. Even if I did daily, they're tiny, so 7 would be about the same mass as a shirt.
If no, aren’t you kind of grossed out by a used, wet, bacteria filled rag being rubbed all over you?
Not anymore than rubbing a used, wet, bacteria filled bar of soap being rubbed all over you. Or used, wet, bacteria filled hands.
First time I heard of that. What is the advantage they have compared to just using your hands, besides the lathering abilities mentioned in one of the replies to this comment which is something I never had a problem with?
Pretty much lathering I'd think, you could also stretch it over your back and use it as a back scrubber I guess?
I lather up a washcloth and scrub that way.
That's the way all our great-grandparents did it. But with a bowl of warm water.
Uses just a fraction of energy & water. With the abundance of cheap energy, affordable piping and heating became affordable for the masses.
I mean, I also use an actual shower for the rinsing and hair, I just use a washcloth instead of my bare hands or a bar for soaping everything up.
That's what I thought, hence I mentioned the bowl of water. Which was heated with wood or coal which had to be carried manually... in buckets... Imagine that :-)
I use soap bar bags... I can't figure out if that qualifies as barehanded or not
You can also get shower brushes, mostly for dislodging dead skin cells...
I shove the bar of soap strait up my ass and just express the foam into my hand from there until I'm done.
Dat special scent from Yankee Candle
A yes, the Gere technique
I do this too, but I use the moves I learned during my breakdancing days to spin on my head and evenly distribute a layer of suds all over my body. It's super efficient!
I mean, yeah?? I just put the soap wherever it needs to go??
The soap isn't dirty folks. Half of the time all I'm showering off is sweat and dead skin cells anyways. And if any bugger dares reply to this with some clever comment about taint smears, I'll inform you beforehand I do not speak with bidet-less miscreants.
I just rub the shower gel bottle over myself. It's lasting me ages
Watch out for Big Soap! They don't want the people to know your one weird trick!
...I'm supposed to wear gloves in the shower?
Soap on hands; hands on body.
I remember watching a black comedian many years ago and his bit started "Why don't white people use washcloths?", and it got me thinking. I started using washcloths and noticed I came away cleaner, soap on a hand doesn't cut the skin oils and dirt like soap and gentle abrasion can. I also noticed, because I'm hairy, that I get lots of ingrown hairs, especially on my legs. Switched to one of those "poofs" and now I vigorously scrub my hairy bits and no ingrown hairs. Exfoliating helps.
Use a washcloth and don't forget to brush your tongue, you filthy animal.
How can you tell that you "come out cleaner"? I don't exactly have motor oil all over my body or anything when I shower.
I don't exactly have motor oil all over my body or anything when I shower.
Then you're not doing it right! I know the vegan motor oil is supposedly the best for your skin but I prefer the synthetic stuff. The process is Exon, Exoff.
How do you clean your ears, bellybutton, toes? And hopefully in that order. Some stuff needs extra attention, and some people have different skin types than you. Go scrub out your toes.
toes?
That's what the pressure washer is for. Takes the human skin right off!
I actively try not to get soap in my ears because it will clog them up. I use an "ear syringe" to occasionally rinse out my ears with slightly preessurized water only.
They don't properly clean those areas, they're just gross
Soap bar bags are the superior option, they save you money too
You are correct.
Huh... I'm a huge proponent of brushing your tongue (it doesn't take much, just a brush with a scraper on the back makes a big difference). I've never really tried washcloths, but now I'm going to give them a shot
On the flip side, my skin is weird. I get hives for literally no reason, I tried one of those plastic poofs and it makes me itch like crazy.
🤞
just a brush with a scraper on the back makes a big difference
Huh?
Some toothbrushes have a tongue-scraping thing on the opposite side of the bristles.
I guess I didn't know that was necessary. What's the reasoning?
A lot of mouth bacteria lives on your tongue. Any dentist will tell you that cleaning your tongue is an important part of oral hygiene, even though it's often overlooked. Doing it really helps with keeping bad breath under control and generally healthier teeth.
The Asian body scrubbers are next level exfoliation. The best part is they dry super fast and are washable. I used to use the poofs but they retained so much dang water and weren't washable.
Yes, but whose body?
I don't shower barehanded. I wear gloves at all times as to not scuff my jorts.
This Arrested Development/Always Sunny cross over is exactly what I needed today, thank you both.
Dozens!
The way this question was phrased killed me. lmao
The same way you wash your hands
Someone out there is rubbing the bar all over each hand and then just rinses. Knowing humans this has to be true for someone.
If there's a betting pool I've got $5 on Florida.
What I do is I take several guns and a baseball bat with me when I shower so that I'm never caught barehanded ever.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was wondering what on earth OP was taking about
It's like interdimensional cable but for internet forums. In my version of reality, we get completely naked when taking a shower, not just our hands. We have these kind of lay-down-showers called baths too, but that's a whole other thing. Also, the chemical element with atomic mass 207.2 g.mol ^ -1, which may seem like a useful building material, especially for shower pipes, is actually dangerous to life that is based on the chemical element 12.011 g.mol ^ -1. Figured I should include that in case OP's reality hasn't figured that out yet. In exchange, consider sharing something dangerous your reality has discovered that might not be obvious to us yet.
Maybe op has only used shower gloves and has now seen the light..
Liquid soap, problem solved.
There is shampoo as soap bars in Europe.
I use it since it brings better cleaning results. There are also environmental reasons not to pack everything like shampoo into plastic. A soap bar comes with just a bit of paper around.
Bar soap feels much cleaner at the end. Also it doesn't create plastic garbage.
Me too. I kinda do it in parts. Like arms, torso, legs and fave. Then lastly is use a nail cleaning brush to scrub my butt. I like to think I have the cleanest butt in town.
use a nail cleaning brush to scrub my butt

I always wondered what it would be like to soak everything in Palmolive...
There's liquid soap, you know. Didn't need to shove anything inside anywhere to stay clean.
Liquid soap is a bitch to rinse properly.
I've never once found that to be the case, and I love those super lathery ones too
It rinses just as any other state form soap, what are you talking about
Astroglide is not a brand of liquid soap
This is a common problem... You need to buy "body wash" from the supermarket or pharmacy. Not the "wash" from the body shop.
Liquid soap/body wash is a sham. It's just the company selling you less soap by diluting it with water. Bars of soap are more economical.
I'm old enough to remember when body wash was not the normal and now soap bars seem to be used less than body wash.
I actually wasn't aware of soap bars before today. I only see those for hands, not the whole body. Reading these comments, I'm not sure if it's more of a generational or cultural difference.
Those of you who shower barehanded.
Huh?
Without a cloth or loofah, or whatever.
I lather everything on my belly and then spread it across my body.
Anywhere skin-on-skin contact occurs (butt, balls, armpits), I use a small amount of benzoyl peroxide facewash. It kills the bacteria responsible for BO and for 24-48 hours body odor is impossible.
You apply it, wait 5 minutes and rinse well. If you don't rinse well you can bleach your towel or clothes.
As far as body soap goes, I use a a fragrance free body wash with salicylic acid. Heavy mechanical exfoliation is not necessary when using a chemical exfoliant. Also, loofas are just a bunch of plastic waste.
After the shower, I use a lightweight gel moisturizer with cerimides. I use a thicker moisturizer on my hands and weenis.
That's just the body. I--of course--have a completely seperate routine for my face.
Use beard as soap distribution hub.
I'd like to see you distributing the soap to the loin area of even beyond the taint.
By 'I'd like to see' I'm not really soliciting for pictures (moving or not), I'm merely enjoying the mental picture and it's comedic implications.
Raises eyebrow...
For... science?
I raw dog bar soap all day ery day. I don’t lather it up, just rub it on my body. Wash clothes are a PITA and I honestly don’t see an exfoliating benefit. Loofahs are gross. I prefer dove. Very cost effective and leaves me smelling fresh.
What's gross about loofahs?
Do you wash loofahs like you can a washcloth? If no, it just sounds like it could get gross like using an old dirty sponge.
I don't have the time or patience to wash a washcloth after every use. Loofahs dry out more quickly than washcloths or sponges (I'm talking the plastic artificial ones). I'm sure it could get gross, but I throw them out before they get too bad. You can wash loofahs in diluted bleach every few weeks to keep them clean.
You mean the plastic ones or the real ones? The plastic ones you can hand wash but I wouldn't stick it in a washing machine (you probably could if you used a laundry bag and put it on low spin)
I just replace mine often (each week) since they're only like a dollar or two, personally.
That sounds wasteful
Well the little card that they come with says to replace it every two weeks... And you can very clearly tell when they're getting to the "old gross sponge" feeling that the other person mentioned.
I just imagine that they really enjoy rocking a layer of dead skin.
I definitely did not misread that as lawyer amd pictured a very cursed Saul Goodman
Have you ever heard of shower gel?
Barehanded as opposed to what? I just rub the bar of soap all over and Robert's your mother's brother.
Step out of the water, lather up hands, scrub, then back into the water to rinse. Face, then hair, the upper body then lower body - with a good spray of the undercarriage (shower heads are supposed to be removeable, not stuck to the wall).
It's a pet hate of mine that people often miss the step of rinsing when cleaning. The whole point is that the soap picks up the muck, then rinsing it removes it. This is a particular problem with dishes, where people leave (sometimes very dirty) dishwater on the plate to drip dry, with much of the residue remaining. My dishes fucking sparkle, and that's because I rinse them clean.
In contrast, with showers I think some people lather up in the water, which dilutes and rinses the soap away before it even cleans anything.
What kind of damned animal doesn't rinse their dishes after washing them with soap?! I refuse to accept there are people out there doing this and if there are: I am not mad, I am just deeply disappointed in you.
I think it's maybe a UK think, with a view to saving energy. Fill up a big washing up bowl in the sink, put soap in that, wipe it with a cloth then put it straight on the rack. Meanwhile I just run the hot tap excessively (turned down to a low flow) and scrub with one of those sponges on a stick with soap dispensing through the handle.
My parents were British and they used to have two washing bowls. Pile the dirty dishes into one and fill with warm water and dish soap. Clean water in the second bowl for rinsing. After a while the second bowl builds up residual soap so it needs to be emptied and refilled. I figure I use the same amount of water rinsing under a running faucet. But the soak thing is a great tip - leaving dishes in water to soak makes cleaning them so much easier.
I prefer to just leave the hot tap running throughout, but down on low flow (basically the lowest I can have it with the combi boiler still on, but because it's so slow it's actually even hotter than full flow). The constant heat really helps loosen everything, then when the plate or whatever is on the rack to dry it's steaming.
But yeah most British people would be horrified with the way I do it hah.
My dishes fucking sparkle, and that’s because I rinse them clean.
This is how I can tell you live in an area that doesn't have hard water. Water spots all over my dishes, even though I rinse them... sometimes because I rinse them.
I do actually live in an area with hard water, and don't have a water softener. Even then, I think the heat of the water I use maybe helps - there's only ever a tiny little bit of water left to drip out. I'm not very energy effecient with it, I run the hot tap very hot to rinse.
I've noticed people get a bunch of soap at a sink, cover their hands in suds, quickly wet their hands and walk out. Insanity
At least turn off the water if you’re not in it.
For the 5-10 seconds it takes to lather up? Not really worth it, especially if the water temperature will fluctuate. Also, there's something to be said for the hot steaminess that showers create.
I'm all for saving energy when it's not being used, but I'm using that hot water. I might not need it, but I enjoy it.
If you only spend 5-10 seconds I’d argue you might as well stop showering because that is not enough time to be effective.
(edit) To not be too argumentative and rude I'd wager you probably spend more time than 10 seconds. :) Your other points do have merit too, heck who am I to judge your showering habits.
Yeah I think I was downplaying the time to try and make it seem like I'm not wasting water so much XD but dammit if I don't like a good hot soak.
However 5-10 seconds is probably about right for my face and hair each. 5-10 seconds lather, 5-10 seconds rinse and scrub. Then standing in the water for a minute or so daydreaming lmao.
Here here!
There there. ;P
where scare?!
That doesn't even make sense...
People who use exfoliating gloves and wash clothes are fine and all but it's not like the majority of the world works in high viscosity grease factories. I roll bare-handed and never stink or feel dirty during a typical day.
Exfoliation is also bad if done very day. I usually exfoliate once a week
That bar of soap goes wherever it needs to go. I’m mean it’s made out of soap. So it self cleaning as far as I’m concerned.
Want that an argument between Joey and Chandler in friends? Chandler's position was the same as yours, Joey's retort was "Next time think about the last thing I wash and the first thing you wash."
Problem with this is then you end up with body hair and pubes all over the bar of soap which is disgusting. I have a family member who does this and it's really unfortunate on the rare occasion I have to share a bathroom with them.
I mean, if you're not a heathen you don't.
I feel like this is how you get a whipping case of pinkeye xD
That’s why you wash in the right order. Head > arms > torso > legs > pits > crack > let the soap sit for 24 hours to let it “heal” and disinfect its self.
Go in wrong order and yes, pink eye is the result
I use a bar of soap that is exclusive to me. I lather somewhere hairy, like my stomach, to build up some suds. Then, I soap everything with the suds and soap.
It wastes a ton of soap compared to a washcloth. And when I'm done I wash the bar off and wash my hands one last time. It's the quickest way I have found to shower. I am usually out in about 15 minutes.
15 minutes is a pretty long shower
I legitimately don't know how people shower quicker than that. Like, if I'm in a rush I can, but I know I'm missing areas and not getting as clean as I could be.
But to be honest I have OCD that mostly manifests as germaphobia/obsessively sanitizing. I'm not good about understanding how normal people clean themselves.
I just need a washcloth, liquid soap and 4 minutes max.
I can't even thoroughly rinse the shampoo out of my hair in 4 minutes. And I'm mostly bald.
But how much of that 4 minutes is you having a disassociating / existential crisis?
Seriously! A regular shower for me takes around five minutes. With a face shave, it's still less than ten. Wtf else is there to do? Standing there staring at the wall?
staring at the wall after I'm clean is like my zen moment man
Shower beer. Amazing after a hot day mowing / at the pool / exercising / etc…
Earlier today i had a shower vodka pink lemonade. It's 100f outside and my 'cold' water is about 85°. Shower cocktail = 👍.
"Regular" shower, boss. I'm not talking about extracurricular showers. The other commenters were amazed that anyone ever takes a less than 15 shower. Which is ridiculous that their bar for a normal shower is that long.
Some people shave other parts of their bodies, some have skincare routines, some have special hair products. If you are just washing with soap and using shampoo it is going to be quicker than someone who has different face and body washes and multiple hair products.
It's like different people have different needs or something.
I hear you there. Personally in the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial masque which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
Masturbate, with easy cleanup
I have really long, thick, curly hair. My showers can easily take 45 minutes to an hour because of everything I need to do to wash, detangle, and finish my hair routine.
Me too, I always assume it’ll take at least 30 minutes, but only 5 if I don’t wash my hair
Dissociating, executive dysfunction and general existential dispair is a bitch. So yes, to answer your question, staring at a wall indeed. It's really hard to get in the shower and when I'm there it's hard to leave. But reading all of this has given me some encouragement. I'm gonna take a shower. :)
I don't spend 15, but I do spend more than 5. In my case most of the time spent is lathering up, i.e. the time when the water isn't running. Do you count that in your five minutes? And how do you shave in the shower? Do you have a mirror in there? How doesn't it get all fogged up?
Edit: Now that I think of it, a small mirror in a shower could work, you simply have to pass it through cold water when you want to shave.
brushing teeth
Not when you shave your head in the shower. Shit takes time and focus
Amateur. With the power of the Seifensäckchen, I manage to shower in 2-3 Minutes.
That soap does what it's told or it gets the hose again.
I don't care about any of that. What I really want to know is do you wash your legs?
No, I have people for that
I'm a proud leg washer. I make sure to personally attend to everything on my bod and that means legs, between the cheeks, and soles of my feet.
How can you not? Wear some sort of special shower trousers? The soap just runs right down them, they practically wash themselves.
Just letting the soap run down then doesn't sound like washing to me.
You wash your legs?
🤮
Yes. Also feet and between toes.
Do legs even get dirty? They are just... there
I wash my hands throughout the day, but not my legs. I also deal with dirty areas and climb on the floor and I have a tendency to walk into bits of metal that shred my shins.
I just put shampoo on my head and t-pose
Lather my hands and hit my crevasses.
Literal showerthoughts@lemmy.world
Two words: pube loofah. The mons pubis is a great place to lather up. Then I just scoop up soap with my bare hands and bring it where it needs to be.
It’s soap. It’s a bar. I rub it on my wife then myself and then we rinse it off.
I, too, like to rub it on this guy's wife.
We all do, but don't mess it up for everyone.
Shove the soap.
To quote Chandler: "Soap is soap! It's self-cleaning!"
Isn't soap technically self-dirtying since it's supposed to get dirt to cling to it rather than your skin?
No. The point of soap is to reduce the surface tension of water so that grime, oils, and bacteria can't stick around.
This is why the CDC recommends wetting before applying soap... Because the moment the soap propagates through the water (which happens extremely fast) is the moment microorganisms lose their grip. Applying (wet) soap beforehand reduces its efficacy.
Anything unsanitary stuck to or in the soap isn't going to be able to stick around once rinsing takes place.
Also remember The Law of Conservation of Filth: For something to become clean something else must become dirty. The water is what's getting "dirty" because of the soap.
pro tip: use water with the soap
Follow-up question: do you wash your feet extra or do you also think that the shower gel water below will fix that?
Assume nothing, wash everything
I want this on a T-shirt.
Feet need to be scrubbed, not rinsed.
When you take a bath you don't just dip yourself for a bit and then get out
But how do you scrub your feet while standing on them
One at a time
Lame. I jump and scrub toe.
I’ve got really bad calluses so yeah I usually give them a good rough scrub with a coarse washcloth.
You fucking bet I scrub my feet. I rock climb and as most climbers do I wear my climbing shoes without socks, which also means they collect a ton of dead skin cells and sweat which makes them smell absolutely vile. I spray them all the time with a multitude of bacteria and fungus killing products, even wash them from time to time, but there's no real solution. I just treat them as biohazard when not climbing. So yes, I make an effort to thoroughly scrub my feet to ensure they don't retain the smell and to try to reduce how many dead cells end up in the shoes.
Everything that is below my pp i dont touch. Never have in my life. I just dont get that dirty that often.
I'm 196cm tall. Do you know how far I need to go down to wash them? I trust trickling down soapy water will fix that.
I hope to never come in close proximity to your feet.
He's the sole person in many situations!
Do you not have knees? I'm the same height and just bend my leg up to scrub my feet.
Y'all are nasty if you're not scrubbing everything. Soap running down from above isn't going to do much.
Man, maybe that's it! I am 196cm tall too 🙏
You can get shower mats with brush parts. No need to fold yourself in half, just shuffle your feet.
unfortunately shower mats are notoriously gross
Only if you don't clean them in my experience, and they aren't particularly hard to clean. Just give em as good scrub when you clean the shower.
aint nobody got time for that
plus tiny shitass shower
Banned
If you don't wash your feet then you are not allowed in my house.
i wasnt planning on coming
Are you asking all your guests before?
Yes it is on the questionnaire, and the interview explicitly covers the definition of "wash your feet" we are using so there can be no confusion.
Lather first
Also, a lifehack: if you have body hair, you can lather soap onto your hands and then just move them through your body hair
This allows you to generate tons of soap foam with which you can wash EVERYTHING
This thread of comments is disturbing.
I just use my chest hair, I feel like if I use a washcloth I’ll smell moldy without realizing it
WTF? Why would you smell moldy? Would you not wash the cloth? Do you think people who use wash cloths aren't washing them?
This thread is a disturbing trip.
Your telling me you use one washcloth per shower? If you don’t how are you letting that dry?
It’s the same argument as the people who have the washer dryer combos. They smell like mold homie. You don’t smell it. I do.
Uh wring it out a little bit and hang it on the shower rack? How humid is your bathroom if things don't dry? Do you use a fresh towel everyday?
This thread has made me realize I'm apparently surrounded by nasty motherfuckers.
Lmao I mean I guess if you never washed it? I've never had that problem with my washcloths
Lather and hands. Unless you live alone shoving the soap leaves hair on it and that's just nasty for everyone else to look at or deal with.
Dealt with by simply rinsing it afterwards
But then what are you going to use to decorate the shower walls‽ No reason to pull your own hair out!
The drain hair is for cosplay wigs 👍
You've never had to play a game of chase the pube around the soap bar. It's a phenomenon physics has not yet found a way to explain, but rinsing soap with a pube on it just causes the pube to quantum jump to the other side of the soap bar.
I swipe the bar of soap between my butt cheeks like a credit card...
Yeah, Near Filth Cleaning (NFC) based placement requires too many 3rd parties.
No one in here uses a loofa?!?
Loofah all day! I will even take a loofah on trips. Just never feel clean without it.
I think the question is to those that don't.
Look up the green "Asian body scrub" cloths. They're next level wash cloths that exfoliate, dry fast, and are washable. Bonus, they're super cheap. I swear by them and can't ever go back to other scrubbers.
Aka "(Korean) Italy towels".
My shower has different cycles like a self serve car wash. I just move the dial to the appropriate setting and go from there.
I always start with that bubblegum-scented foam brush.
I use a loofah, man you guys are really living up to the male stereotype haha
Lather up by rubbing bar on hairy bits. Use hands to rub everything down with lather.
The hair is key for a good lather
Isn't the soap that touches the body ablated by friction with the skin?
what
Bar goes where it needs to go
I soap up my hands and then wash every part of my body and reapply soap when needed. I have a scrub washcloth with handles that I occasionally use too.
I use liquid soap so going via the hand makes the most sense to me.
The answer is Dr. Bronners, and always towards the heart!
Yes
latherer reporting in o7
Ya'll ain't using a washcloth with your soap? 😬
I am a barehanded soap to shower poof convert. I moved to an area with a lot of heat and I can’t get all the oil off my body without friction. So I barehand soap on head, then load up the poof and then go like hell
I usually use a loofah or equivalent, but when I don't, I use one hand to hold the soap and rub it on against the skin, and the other hand to lather and spread soap around. Switch hands when necessary.
I also tend to soap up my face first, then the ears, then down towards the neck and the torso, arms (and hands), and legs (and feet), and then the areas that need extra attention (armpits, groin). And then rinse.
That whole routine is done twice, with shampoo and conditioner in between. I sometimes leave some parts soapy (like armpits and groin) if I think they need some soaking. I also leave the conditioner on my hair for most of the "2nd soaping", only rinsing it thoroughly (and making sure that the conditioner runoff don't touch any other part of my body) just before the final rinse.
just shove the soap wherever it needs to go?
And this folks, is why I remind my family - Just because it's soap, doesn't mean its clean..
I always wash from top down, with the exception of hair I do last. Since I practically have none (bit of shampoo every few days) I don't think this matters unless I have been shat on by a bird or something!
Neck/ears/face etc first (after a good pre-lather - see above, then a post-lather), then shoulders armpits, arms etc, then belly, balls and bum, down the legs to the ankles. Like someone else said here, I'm 190cm and at this point I am already uncomfortably prone! Feet are always dancing around in soapy water so they are fine, and I never got toe jam so it must be okay.
Is this something I should Google, or…. maybe I shouldn’t?
I ain't takin googling advice from someone named Mcballs1234
This seems like sound logic 👍
For the longest time I used my hand lathering with the bar first, then realized using a washcloth works much better.
Lather and then I go "wax on, wax off" all over myself. Relather as I go.
Soapshover all the way. All the way.
Lather, then use hand. I use a wash cloth to exfoliate though.
I lather up a washcloth.
Rub soap all over my body and scrub it down like a crazy mofo.
Not sure what beforehand means, but I get in the shower, sit for 20 mins and think, then stand up, get wet, add bar of soap to wash rag, put wash rag all over my body, rinse, then get out and dry.
I don’t rub the bar on my body. Lather, wash, rinse.
Both.
I'm a hairy guy. So it doesn't matter. But if I use bar soap, I'll just rub it over the major areas first, then go back and lather. If it's body wash, I just squeeze a pool in my hand, and use my chest hair to create the lather, disperse to rest of body.
Why not both?
Depends if it's someone else's soap or not.
both depending on area and what I use for cleaning (body wash vs soap)
Soap work with friction, so you are forced to use your hand to apply optimal on your skin and actually wash yourself.
Bar soap sucks anyway, leaves a weird feeling.
Liquid soap all the way. (Body wash, hand wash)
Soap over the main parts, and lather with that over everything
Kinda both I guess?
The lack of scrubbing here makes me weep for your girlfriend's, wives, significant others. Knowing goddamn well y'all got stanky balls and asses and get musty by noon everyday because you haven't properly scrubbed the hair in your pits. Yuck, your parents failed all of you.
I haven't used soap in the shower for at least five years. Only when cleaning hands, and I do use antiperspirant) I just scrub myself with my hands in the shower top to bottom. (I am bald tho).
No one has ever mentioned me smelling bad, even my current co-workers who do say it if someone is smelling.
What kind of antiperspirant are you using that doesn’t require soap to remove it? They almost always have a residue that keeps them in place that doesn’t normally just wash off.
I have some that is for sensitive skin without any additives. I just scrub my armpits really well for a bit longer under running water.
But now that you mention it, I got a new brand of antiperspirant recently that I've had issues with, so I might just need to use soap for that.
But... Why?
I had a long time of issues with my skin, and when I researched for causes I realised I was using too much soap. So I switched to soap every other day, once a week and eventually just dropped soap altogether when I found I didn't really need it. Haven't had any issues with my skin since.
You talking bar soap? Try body wash with a loofah. Stuff works great for my skin while bar soap dries the crap out of it or makes me itchy.
I love how people say this. Dude, other people will not tell you if you smell bad unless you ask fairly insistently. It’s awkward, and people would just rather ignore it than broach that awkwardness. Tell someone you work with and trust everything you have just written here, and see what they say. My bet is either you are “that smelly guy at the office” or “meh you smell kinda funky, but it’s not horrendous”. Either way: wash ya ayyssssss
My brother, I work in a kitchen. The people there do, (and have) told their fellow workers when they smell. Either when they don't shower enough, or when they use too much deodorant.
Aight
Interesting question! In Scientology, there is a specific way to handle hygiene in order to maintain physical and spiritual well-being. When it comes to showering, here's what I was taught:
-
Begin by taking a warm water rinse to wake up the body and get rid of any dirt or debris.
-
Then, apply a small amount of soap to your hand or face cloth (if using) and start with the armpits, back, and neck areas first. This helps remove any excess energy that may be stuck in those areas.
-
Use circular motions while lathering up, always moving towards the heart.
-
Rinse off the soap thoroughly before applying more if necessary.
-
Finish off by rinsing out any remaining soap and water from the hair and body.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your shower time is not only hygienic but also helpful for keeping negativity and thetans away. In terms of explaining the connection between hygiene and keeping thetans away, it boils down to the principle of "cleanliness=godliness." By taking care of our physical bodies through good hygiene practices like showering regularly and using good quality products, we are better able to keep negative thoughts and emotions at bay. Just as we would want to avoid touching dirty or stinky things, thetans also prefer a clean and fresh energy field around us. So, essentially, it's all about maintaining physical and spiritual cleanliness and care.
So, by showering properly and taking care of our personal hygiene, we can help keep ourselves and our surroundings free of negative vibes and energies. Does that answer your question? Let me know if you have any other questions related to Scientology or spiritual wellness!
Uh, I use bar soap and it doesn’t smell bad. There a loads of small, cottage soap makers who are making really great (and great smelling) soaps. I just prefer those over body wash or whatever.
$10 of bar soap lasts longer than $50 of that gel stuff.
Tell that to my Kirkland body wash that I've had for what feels like over a year.
Another bar soap user. And they don't smell bad. Not sure what you've tried. Liquid body soap feels like it leaves a layer on my skin. Bar soap doesn't do that.
Btw, your liquid soap is more watered down than a bar of soap. And bars are less expensive.
Granted, different bar soaps will have different smells. Like any soap, there are multiple brands and multiple fragrances to choose from. I'm sure there is a gross smelling bar soap out there lol.
There's more bar soaps than ever. You can even get special hair shampoo and conditioner bars or shaving cream as a bar
You know there is bar soap other than name brand stuff, right? Currently getting my bars from the local farmers market. Bergamot and whiskey barrel is one of the most euphoric things I've ever smelled
Bar soap needs to be cleaned/washed after use or it can become dirty/micro-organisms can develop on it.
The thing is that it's in the shower, though. So even if this is an issue, it is for sure going to get wet again before you use it. "Soap is self cleaning." - Friends
I've never heard anyone complain about the smell but I also don't understand why anyone would use bar soap in this day and age. Do people just like having dried out oddly sticky skin?
I honestly don't get why you would even have body wash as a separate thing ... shampoo is perfectly capable of washing everything.
Bar soap is actually a lot better about moisturizing your body now than it used to be. It's also a lot better for the environment and creates a significant less amount of plastic waste than liquid soap. And it tends to last longer than a bottle of liquid soap.
I'm sure you could use shampoo to wash everything. But it does have different moisturizers and oils and additives then soap for your body does. And that can make a significant difference to some people
I buy bulk shower gel, in 5L containers and have used the same 1L gel pump for 3 years so far. Much less waste.
I only have paper waste you still have plastic waste.
To be fair, I'm a bar soap user....and while the bars are individually wrapped in cardboard, there still is usually plastic overwrap around all of the cardboard boxes of bars.
What kind of soap do they sell where you are??? It sounds super gross and I'm not surprised you think it's weird people use soap.
But plenty of soap is nothing like that.
Gotta use the Dove original beauty bar, at the risk of sounding like a shill it's seriously the only bar soap that doesn't leave your skin feeling all weird and sticky
I alternate between Dove and Caress both leave my skin nice and smooth; I'll occasionally use a gel but they feel like they leave a layer so I don't use them much.
I have been using Dove for a long time now. Recently I have been thinking that it moisturizes too much. I wish I could find a bar soap that moisturizes like Dove but maybe half as much moisturizing.
I've not yet gone down the interwebs rabbit hole to find it.
I've been really liking Aleppo Soap. 3 ingredients: olive oil, laurel oil, and lye. I find it moisturizes just enough, and doesn't have that weird smell that Dove has.
I've found the same, although I'm sure other good ones exist. Just haven't had a reason to try them.
Used Duke Cannon for a while, liked them too but frankly I'd much rather pick up a pack of soap when I'm shopping than have to worry about ordering some online.
I’ve seen Duke Cannon in lots of brick-and-mortar stores.
I see them here and there, and occasionally still pick them up when I do (love the fragrances), but unfortunately it's usually at shops I don't frequent or as a seasonal end cap.
Edit: highly recommend their solid cologne too, nice scents and it lasts forever
Solid cologne?? Ok now I must Google. Never heard of such
It's great. I don't use it too often, only really when I'm going out, but I've had the same container for 3 or 4 years now and it's maybe half gone. Think it cost me maybe $30 shipped?
