This year, I didn't do anything at all. I actually slept through it.

However in 2021, my mom almost burned the house down. She was very distracted with video calls while the fries are cooking, and then I suddenly noticed a bright orange glow in my window. She quickly tried putting it out and successfully pulled it off, albeit with a few second degree burns. If I didn't see that glow, I wouldn't even be here right now.

I took a bath until 10, then played Ōkami until 11:45, opened a beer, watched the fireworks and went to bed.

I went to bed at 10pm after cleaning my bathroom and putting away my clothes. I woke up 5 hours later with a cold. No regerts

Sounds pretty productive! Good on you! Sucks about the cold tho.

Went to a neighborhood party. No driving needed. Home by 10 and out cold by 10:30

A party within walking distance sounds pretty chill! One of the reasons I can't relax at parties is because I can't have much of anything to drink because I have to worry about driving!

That's the benefit of living somewhere with public transit

Parties in general are like that for me. And then there are those special days like New Year's Eve and St. Patricks Day when the police are more focused than ususal on possible drunk driving

Invited a cousin and his family over to stay the night. Adults watched Equilizer 3. Kids ran around like crazy upstairs playing together till midnight. Then all slept in the next morning till 1030.

Glad the kids had fun too!

I stayed home and played Carcassonne, Codenames, and Hey, Robot with my parents, sister, & her partner. Turned on the TV near midnight to watch the fireworks, only to be disappointed that the national broadcaster just replayed fireworks from another city in another time zone instead, so listened to the local fireworks off in the distance. I stumbled through Auld Lang Syne on the piano shortly afterwards, having done precisely zero practice and not even thinking of doing it until a few minutes beforehand. It sounded awful but was fun anyway.

By trying to play board games. I say try because...

Yeah new years was never a holiday for me. At my old workplace, we were open 24/7/365, so I was always happy to work on new years because of the holiday pay haha. It seems more like a thing if you go out and party. Nothing wrong with that! Just never something I did!

I was in a bad mental health space. So I took off the 31st from work. Did nothing until my wife came home. We watched a bit of DS9 and Squid Game. Then we watched the ball drop. Then I took a trazodone and hydroxyzine and went to bed. I slept for about 11 hours and am feeling a bit better today.

I took my mom and aunty to dinner and they were playing a movie in the resteraunt which was a nice surprise. Then, after dinner we went to a town gathering then a family gathering. It was pretty fun.

Had a beer with friends, played some boardgames, went outside for looking at fireworks, played more boardgames

That actually sounds like a lovely evening even though you were sick.

I tried to go to bed early after having a rough couple of work days but I couldn't fall asleep for several hours which was a tad annoying. My coworker/friend still seems to like me and enjoy my company even though I occasionally go off the rails which is just endlessly confusing to me. I never know how to make up for being a crazy person. So we were texting a bit before I went to bed.

My wife and I spent Christmas in Costa Rica (it was amazing, and we are moving there as soon as reasonably possible), and we caught some European cold/flu thing from a group of people staying at the same hotel as us in Monteverde. 3 of them went to hospital from it while we were there.

So we spent NYE on the couch under covers. I did make a couple drinks to celebrate. She sneakily had 3 beers. Seriously, suddenly she was drunk and I had no idea she had had one beer!

Nothing big but couldn't ask for anything better. Had something nice to eat. Listened to some music. Went for a swim at midnight and watched the fireworks drifting on my back, a couple of hundred meters from the float where it was launched.

My old college friend group comes over to play D&D. When the clock strikes midnight, we play All Star. They stay over and the next morning we have cereal and watch cartoons

(We're in our 30s)

Had a similar night. Spouse has a cold, and we’re on baby-watch. We made pizza and snuggled on the couch as safely as we could lol. While on the couch, we watched New Year’s celebrations on the tv and listened to music. Random neighbors were doing fireworks so we had plenty of entertainment. We’re low key, so it was honestly very enjoyable.

Hope you guys feel better soon!
