Walmart fires 6'4" cisgender woman threatened by man who thought she was trans

Summary
Walmart fired Dani Davis, a 6'4" cisgender woman, after a man who mistook her for transgender verbally threatened her in a women’s restroom at a Florida store.
Davis, visibly shaken, reported the March 14 incident to her immediate supervisor but was fired for not informing salaried management, allegedly creating a “security risk.”
Davis called the firing discriminatory. After viral backlash, Walmart offered to reinstate her with back pay.
Davis, a longtime employee, is uncertain about returning, citing fears of a hostile work environment.
Post is being reported as having a possibly malicious link? Honestly not seeing a problem. Anyone else?

Opened it and got cancer immediately. I think it's working as intended
So, a man went into the ladies' restroom to assault a woman because he's afraid of men entering the ladies' room to assault women.
Oh Florida... You constant shame on the republic.
It's a constant shame on the empire now
Empires need dominion over foreign states, expanding their borders. America would love to be an empire, they are just a wee little dictatorship with an inept conman in charge. I'm hardly worried, mostly just sad to watch it happen in real time.
They're working on it
And they are trying their best. *Pats their back"
I mean, the current borders of the US do include some former foreign states and land previously owned by others, that were taken over in the past, Hawaii for example. Does that not make it an empire, or does that stop counting after a century or so?
It is a sort of empire - Immerwahr called it a Pointilist one
https://www.historynet.com/the-invisible-empire-why-some-americans-dont-count/
You just forget about Samoa and Puerto Rico and all of our other colonies? America is an empire, you're just late to the party of realizing it
This is the desired outcome. They want all women to be as gender conforming and submissive to men as possible. They know it affects women who do not fit the defined conventions of what women are meant to look like / act like / talk like etc. This is actually the main reason they want to do it.
Holy fuck this makes so much sense and I hate it.
Then Walmart fires her? WTF, the man should be banned from the store. Fuck Walmart.
A cis man went into the ladies wc to assault a cis woman who he thought was a trans woman because he is afraid that cis men start to use the excuse of being trans women to go into the ladies wc to assault women.
The irony in this whole thing
Pilboooooy
Bortles!
I had to double take when I read that because it was so mind numbingly stupid. I was like wait… huh? A man berated a woman in the woman’s bathroom?
I thought this whole bathroom thing was about protecting women from men! /s
It doesn't really matter if she is trans or not IMO. nobody deserves to be treated like that.
It does demonstrate the truism that transphobia doesn’t only harm trans people.
That's the whole point. Any woman who doesn't conform to the traditional stereotype can be targeted. This is in no way accidental.
Even traditionally feminine western women. They can just point to a minor detail like a wider mandible, a bit of hair on the upper lip or arms, a more developed Adam's apple, etc.
Exactly. The goal is to create a definition of woman sufficiently small that nobody can feel secure she fits in it.
This is one of the reasons one of the mantras is "trans rights are women's rights".
I've always heard it as "trans rights are human rights", is this a different form or does it have a different meaning?
I think it's probably more focused on those impacted most and (unfortunately) where the most sympathy is.
A lot of transphobia is under the guise of women's rights (sports, bathrooms). But also, anyone can (usually) participate it men's sports and men are generally not threatened by someone using the men's bathroom. That doesn't always apply. But it's usually women who suffer the most.
Yeah every concert/event I've ever been to the men willingly let women use men's bathrooms because the women's bathroom line is 4 times longer than the men's.
True, but it shows how even non-trans people are harmed by anti-trans hysteria and fear-mongering. Just like how even men are harmed by misogynistic policies and discrimination. Trans rights are human rights.
Why was the man who was threatened by her in the women's room?
G-gussy?
Jesusussy does not have the same ring does it?
...so the jesussy is transparent?
G-Pussy
If he's a man concerned about protecting murica against the scourge of the trans, and a donvict-supporting magoff, well, then, by Jehovah, it's his right to be in that bathroom inspecting the genitalia of anyone in there.
You know, to Protect Women and Girls (TM).
and yet again its not a trans woman invading a bathroom with ill intent.
its a right wing conservative man who invaded a bathroom with ill intent.
Every accusation is a confession.
Yep.
Makes you wonder, after pizzagate, where they're underground child sex dungeon is.. Since they were so emphatic on pointing the finger at liberals and gays and accusing them of such a thing.
It was Epstein's island.
nah. They were too hyper focused on it being a basement under a restaurant.
They arent exactly clever when confessing their crimes by accusing the other side of doing the crime. There is absolutely a building somewhere with a basement that Republicans diddle in.
That's because they think in terms of secret lairs and such things. It's people saying "yes and" to serious accusations just like the satanic panic.
Step 1) Sue Walmart. Step 2) Retire in Europe.
Do step 1 before the laws change to where the guy who threatened her gets a medal of freedom instead.
He's already started the onboarding process to be in Trump's cabinet
Secretary of Offense
In the House of Representin'
Do... do you think...
That a person working... at Walmart...
... has the financial resources...
... to sue Walmart?
Theres a very good chance of finding a lawyer to work for compensation after settlement
Morgan and Morgan is from Florida, they might be the largest firm in the world and take cases for improper firings. Usually they take their cases on the basis of you won't pay anything unless you win. I'm sure they'd love that case
And they're willing to take on big corporations - iirc they were representing Austin's mom after he was killed in the monorail accident at Magic Kingdom 17 or 18 years ago this July (damn I can't believe it's been that long). She ended up settling out of court, it was really an awful situation.
The firm that advertises themselves as "good Catholics, who had as many children as they could, beginning immediately after they got married”? Yeaaaah.
Oh I'm sure they aren't great people. They make most of their money off swindling insurance companies for huge settlement offers due to work/car injuries. That said, if you're trying to get a huge settlement from Walmart, they are probably a good bet though. Also I know they turned down a case years ago when my dad went to them about his mother. She had surgery where there was no cartilage left in her ankle. They decided to screw her ankle to her foot essentially making it unable to move but reduce the pain. When she was in recovery they kept forcing her to get up and walk on it and she kept saying it hurt to much. Weeks into the rehab they said she wasn't trying to put in the work. Then after a lot of arguing we finally got them to do new X-rays. Of course they found hairline fractures around the screws they placed. The insurance company/Medicaid and what not all said they wouldn't cover any rehab time after the fractures were found because that time was used up during the period they were trying to force her to walk on a botched surgery. Morgan and Morgan turned down the case, and she reverse mortgaged her house to cover the rehab time. America at its finest
Oh wow! I'm so sorry. I wish you and your family all the best, going forward.
Agreed. The misogyny is clear, even ignoring any hint of trans issues. But, I don't know what a settlement would look like and how much effort it would be to fight WMT lawyers.
Yeah, in a strictly financial sense, they already offered to make her whole. IANAL but I doubt this would be the million-dollar suit that I wish it were.
That's because lawyers are generally pretty smart, and they can tell when they have a sure thing.
For something like this you likely could find a lawyer to do this pro bono. Maybe even the ACLU would get involved.
It’s hard to sue for damages when they’re offering reinstatement with back pay.
Emotional Suffering, and IANAL but I'm sure there's more.
Punitive damages.
That’s a hard one to prove in court.
If it were easy we wouldn't need lawyers.
Edit: Yeah, no one would believe this caused emotional distress. /s
Around 8 p.m. on March 14, she wrote that she was alone in a stall in the women's restroom when she heard a man yelling.
“The voice was much louder than simply someone yelling in from the door. This man was fully IN the restroom, yelling something about” transgender women, Davis wrote.
Davis said the man yelled he was going to “beat" them and was going to “protect his wife/girlfriend from them” while his wife or girlfriend was pleading with him to stop and leave before he got into trouble.
Davis wrote she was scared and froze, not knowing if the man was going to physically attack her.
“I was the only one in there so it seemed pretty clear that he saw me enter the restroom and he assumed that I am trans because of my height,” Davis recalled. “It was terrifying and I wish no one else ever had an experience like that.”
The man eventually left, and Davis was able to leave the restroom and return to her workstation.
“My immediate supervisor came by and noticed that I was visibly shaken and emotional. After taking a few moments to calm myself down, I told her what had happened. I didn't go home since it wasn't long until my shift was done (10 p.m.),” Davis wrote. “Less than a week later, I was fired.”
The reason given for her termination was that she did not report the incident to a salaried management employee and, therefore, created a security risk.
“I took it to mean that I was the security risk because someone had mistaken me for trans,” Davis told the Washington Post.
Davis said she was devastated. Because of the anti-LGBTQ+ climate in Florida, she had been planning on leaving the state. But now, she doesn't know after losing the job.
She appealed the termination through Walmart’s internal review process but was denied. She filed for unemployment insurance but also took her story to Facebook, where it soon went viral.
Can she sure Walmart, though? It's shocking what employers can get away with. I've been wronged before, and had lawyers tell me there's little they can do.
Are people finally now realizing that transphobia affects cis people?? Even if you don’t declare yourself trans, but look any different than typically feminine or masculine, you’re a target for the folks who can “always tell”. It goes without saying that these people are unimaginably idiotic.
Are people finally now realizing that transphobia affects cis people??
Same for homophobia. Sadly, some folks don't realize until it happens to themselves or to someone they care about.
Hopefully, these stories will help wake some people up to that reality before that happens.
I am a straight man. I have lived as a straight man all my life. I have only been with women.
Yet, I was somehow bullied for being gay in high school until I just dropped out. I mean, there was more to it than that, but that was the reason I vomited when I seen the school sign.
Straight cis woman here and same (only I didn’t drop out)… everyone thought I was a lesbian and I got bullied for it, there is nothing wrong in being a lesbian but apparently it was supposed to be an insult to me???
Well, I’m 40. At that time we all thought there was something to be ashamed of. As much as it pains me to know I ever felt that way, I lived in constant humiliation like I wasn’t a real man or something.
My step dad (who I love and have a thousand reasons to defend when you look over the course of my life. He seems evil without context) also put me through it. “Daddy’s little girl” “little fag like his father”. Good lord, i type that out and he seems irredeemable, but he did redeem himself, honestly. Somehow he did. It turns out he went through the same thing, was the dumbest man I ever knew, and just wanted me to be as manly as I could be because that’s what it takes to keep from getting your head stomped in the world we come from. Believe it or not, it came from a place of love which somehow makes the trauma worse.
I don’t know. Life is long, and it’s tremendous. I heard that in a song years ago and it stuck out to me. I mean, we know it’s short, but some things make some times so so so long.
Is what it is. I have a drop dead gorgeous 10 out of 10 wife that any straight man would envy me for. I have kids who love me. This world is a beautiful place once you make your way, despite all of the ugly chaos.
My step dad loved me or he wouldn’t have walked to a crappy job every day just to buy my Christmas presents. He was just misguided and abused himself, and he wasn’t smart enough to see that. The way it was, that was just the way it was for him and he wasn’t smart enough to look at it any other way.
Sound like "A boy named Sue"
Kind of I guess. At first your comment made me mad, then I spent a minute thinking about it and that’s pretty much where he stood haha.
When I say he was dumb, my good lord I couldn’t come close to giving an example that would do him justice.
He was an abused kid though, and being tough meant a lot to him because that’s how he survived.
A story for fun.
My mom was very religious. Her greatest dream was to have him see the world the way that she did, and she tried, and she tried. She finally got him to go to church with her. He stopped drinking, he stopped using drugs. We were leaving church one night and going to his parents . Some of his old buddies stopped him in the road, they walked up and the one guy said, “hey Henry, what the fuck is going on, buddy?”
He said, “I’m trying to do right and raise my kids right. I would appreciate it if you didn’t cuss in front of my wife and kids.“
Dude, thought he was joking. He said, “oh bullshit, Henry going to fucking church.”
My stepdad said, “I’m going to give you one more chance before I make you regret cussing in front of my wife and kids.”
Dude said, “I don’t fucking believe this, Henry the Christian.”
My dad got out of the car and knocked every one of his front teeth out. People were fucking terrified of him. The lady across the street called the cops. The cop showed up, “Henry, we hear there’s some fighting going on down here.” My dad said, “ain’t nobody fighting here, so you can just go on up the road.”
The cop replied, “well then what happened to him?”
My dad said, “He fell.”
The dude looked at the police officer and said, “he’s right, I fell off the bridge.”
The cops pulled out and left while this dude stood here, holding his teeth and crying like a toddler.
Now in my dad’s mind, (step dad, but raised me), He was teaching us this big lesson in that moment.
Poor guy was so stupid that he didn’t realize that violence was not a lesson you teach children. I was terrified, but my brother thought he was the coolest motherfucker who ever lived in that moment. Needless to say, we took drastically different routes for a very long time in our lives.
As a father, at least half the lessons my son has learned weren't ones i'd intended. But he's a good kid, so something worked out.
I had a similar experience as yours. . .
May the bastards that wronged us stub their toes weekly, may both sides of their pillow be warm, may their tires find every sharp object on the road.
May their socks always be damp. May their steering wheel always be vaguely sticky. May they never find parking.
The only people who DON’T understand that transphobia affects cis people are transphobes. And most of them would ask why this woman is so tall. If they aren’t already transvestigating her.
So to protect cis women, he is threatening and scaring cis women.
Gotta protect women from “men” entering the women’s washroom, by entering the women’s washroom. Love it.
What a total douche. Also, how does Walmart come to the conclusion that firing this woman was for the best?
Like they tried to save face and make up for it, but it was too little too late.
Walmart has been and will always be garbage.
I find it fascinating that guys like this usually have a wife/girlfriend who somehow excuses their behavior like WTF is in their head? Are they stupid or just as shitty as the person they're following around?
I think it can be a (bad) cultural thing. When I told my mom I worried my cousin's new husband was abusive, my mom told me he was "a regular Kentucky man. They're just like that."
(My other cousin confirmed her sister's new husband was an abusive dick, but sister refused to leave him. Other cousin and I both went out of state for college, which helps break indoctrination. We were back in town for a funeral.)
Sometimes yes, sometimes they are victims of emotional abuse and codependence. And of course plenty of physical abuse with the type of man who would follow a woman into a bathroom to threaten violence.
It bares repeating, transphobia hurts cisgender people and transgender people.
Hate hurts all people.
But we are such a smart species we barely try to move past it, sometimes.
Is it really worth drawing significant attention to? It may feel nice as a gotcha but I really feel the emphasis should be that trans rights are worth protecting for their own sake
Yeah it's the same as "the patriarchy hurts men too". It is worth pointing out in the sense that if some people aren't free then no-one is free, but it also feels like we shouldn't have to and we take the focus away from the ones that are most hurt.
I think it's worth pointing out because so many people are selfish, bigoted assholes.
I'm Black and Queer. The fact is that the majority of ⚪ people don't give the slightest fuck whether I live or die. (And don't #NotAllWhites at me. I didn't say "all".) That's why writers always kill the Black person first in movies. That's why people watch so much torture porn of cops beating and killing us.
You are absolutely 100% correct. Trans people should be worth protecting for our own sake. I don't know how to convince people that we're humans too, but if people stopped killing us only because it hurts their wives and sisters too, I'll take it.
They are. But by pointing out that it hurts cis people too we attempt to move it from "it's a shame that they treat you like that" to an understanding that transphobic rhetoric may hurt them or other cis people in their lives. Because the fact is, most cis people who love a trans person have maybe one or two of us in their lives. Some have a lot, but we're a small minority that's spread out. And maybe you love your cousin you see every few years, but are you going to riot so they can take a peaceful crap in a public restroom?
I don't mean it as a gotcha. Clearly too many people don't care about the rights and dignity of other people unless it affects them. I wish they did, but the current political climate makes it clear that they don't.
So I think this is worth bringing up to people about any social justice issue. Racism and nativism are used to control white workers. Patriarchy hurts men. Transphobia hurts cisgender people.
However, it is crucial to communicate to people that these ideologies are fundamentally bad and need to be abolished or else people can walk away thinking "We need to implement transphobia the 'right' way so it stops hurting cis people."
This story is so depressing on so many levels.
First and most obviously, we have a biological male entering a women's bathroom to harass and threaten a biological woman because he doesn't want biological males entering the women's bathroom to harass and threaten biological women. Dumb redneck stared into the abyss and it stared back, as it always does. Congrats, dickhead. You are the thing you claim to hate.
But then we have this shit:
Dani Davis, who is queer, took to social media on March 24 and wrote a post about what she said happened while she was at work. The incident occurred on March 14 at the Walmart in Lake City, Florida. She noted she was a nearly seven-year employee of Walmart and holds several other part-time jobs, including the “joy and privilege" of tutoring "special-needs children as requested,” describing herself as a hard worker who has never been in trouble.
How many more reminders do we need that Capitalism hates us and our employers don't even see us as human? A person should not have to work "several part-time jobs", one of which is with the biggest private employer on earth, just to get by.
Does anyone else remember the 'Hey Mon' sketch from 'In Living Color' about an immigrant family that all had like 10 jobs each? It was supposed to be a joke to have to work that much to make ends meet. We weren't supposed to make it a reality for everyone.
I hate this world.
Dani Davis, who is queer
Ohhhhh
None of this made much sense until then. This is why she was fired. Not capitalism or whatever bullshit you're talking about.
One of the reasons bigotry like this spreads is that even supposedly well-meaning people use dogwhistles like "biological woman."
Why a man was in women's restroom?
making sure there are no "biological males" stalking and harassing "biological females"... by stalking and harassing them himself. every accusation is a confession.
They think it’s okay on the off chance that they can terrorize a trans woman.
This is the woman who popularized the “adult human female” slogan that transphobes pretending to be feminist love so much.
Shaun had an entire video about her
Yes. It’s an amazing video, as every single video he’s made is - most TERFs use the same rhetorical strategies, and knowing how Posie Parker’s brain works teaches you a lot about how the TERF brain works. It’s conspiratorial delusions (trans women are hiding every where in secret to try to sexually assault cis women, big pharma is pushing people to become permanent patients, therapists hate butch lesbians and masculine women so much that they tell them they have to be men) which they are attempt to use to explain their generalized sense of fear and anxiety.
They aren’t the Serena Joy’s but the “feminist” orgs who teamed up with her. Everyone forgets one of the lessons of Handmaid’s Tale - anti porn feminists teaming up with conservatives are what start the ball rolling. (A lot of TERF bloggers celebrate state porn id laws without realizing that lesbianism in itself will be considered pornographic).
Who's Shaun?
Oh that guy. I saw his video on CinemaSins.
several videos. all worth watching.
He was inspecting it, like trump inspected the changing rooms of miss teen usa.
why does anyone care who's pissing where? are you a child?
Because he was harassing women in the bathroom. He is literally what people like him, the right, say they are worried about. To reiterate a man entered the women's restroom to harass a woman because he erroneously believed she was in his opinion a man in a woman's restroom.
the whole distinction between men's and women's bathrooms is absurd. there's no bath in there. piss, shit, wash your hands, get out. puke if you gotta. in theory it's a sanitary place. oh dear, a man was being a creep. shout it out, don't be a weirdo monster in the place where people do business
Yes bathrooms should just be unisex. American's are complete morons about bathrooms.
As an American idiot, I have been clamoring and hollering for sane bathroom situations since I was a teenager. I didn’t graduate from anywhere, they mostly just told me, why are you still here? I managed to drop out, misbehave a fuck ton and graduate early and decent behavior towards all was sorta the obvious part
Or possibly a cat. Or a dog. Or one of the many other animals that really care about pissing spots.
If he was there to void himself, wash his hands, or check his grooming or anything else that one would consider an intended purpose of restrooms I would agree (except for the hypocricy)
However not only was he not in there to do any of that, he was in there to engage in hostility towards people who were in there to do that. And beyond that, he did so in a hypocritical way.
Genitals
Obsession
Party
This literally happened in the 1954 Lavender Scare. Coworkers could report you for being a "security risk" and you'd be fired because they assumed you were a lesbian.
It's why we have pride parades, to exercise that muscle and stamp out the fear of "otherness" in society.
Before I read about the Lavender Scare, I didn't realize that Washington was a growing gay hub in the 40s/50s due to the expanded bureaucracy post New Deal. Also, that the anti-gay policies spread to universities and the private sector, which seemed to become the norm after that. Eventually, universities and the private sector cared more about sexual orientation than if you were previously a member of the Communist party. History is important and relevant.
Yep, history is always important. Books on history also help you find solutions to today's (annoyingly recurrent) problems, too.
DC is interesting in that it was a great mixing area because of all the postwar army bases. WW2 allowed many rural people from all walks of life to mix together, and people who were gay/bi/lesbian+ all had the chance to mix together for the first time in...well...perhaps ever, for everyone from small town Kansas to big city NYC. That opened doors for a lot of our ancestors.
And ironically, the lavender scare is what later precipitated into the gay rights movement, when everyone got sick of mandatory butthole inspections at work, and started suing and winning. (Embellishing a bit, but you get the gist)
-
I used to work for Wal-Mart, this doesn't surprise me. They actually tried to have me written up for using a women's room as a transgender woman and decided not to only because I pointed out that that would be discrimination under the law (Trump wasn't president at the time) My days with the company were pretty much numbered after that. They're not looking for workers, they're looking for slaves; anyone who thinks they have rights aren't slaves.
-
Isn't it obvious? The reason they want to criminalize transpeople, someone who's already an "invisible minority" is because any "Woke" behavior can be classified as "Trans" behavior... And anything the state doesn't like can be classified as "Woke", the Nazis actually did this by banning the teaching of any science and philosophy that was deemed to be too Jewish... Which was a net positive for the world for the sole reason of this meaning that Hitler never had the atomic bomb (He could have, but then he called the science behind it "Jewish Superstition masquerading as science." and ordered it halted)
i worked at that W place and i did 3rd shift maintenance. cleaning, buffing floors, bathrooms. as the person cleaning the shitters you block the entrance. that never stopped a kentucky boy psycho with a gigantic knife. i quit the job after i encountered that trash fucker. just not a chill place to work. the general public are awful.
I never minded the dipshits than can't grasp 'closed for cleaning' it was absolute animals leaving messes all over the floor and walls.
I hate this. The doors should have locks.
So, she was fired because… some dude was wrong?
Our society really likes to shit on women all the time, doesn't it?
She was fired because a man (without affiliation with walmart) entered the women's restroom and verbally assaulted her. He wasn't just factually wrong assuming that a woman can't be tall, he entered a space that he knew he wasnt supposed to enter.
Men entering women's restrooms to use the restroom: Nightmarishly immoral
Men entering women's restrooms to harm a woman: Laudable and in the spirit of their Dear Leader
In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Amy Dorris alleged that Trump accosted her outside the bathroom in his VIP box at the tournament in New York on 5 September 1997.
And low wage employees. It's cheaper and easier to fire an employee than to confront a customer about their mistake. Remember kids, your job is only one crazy person's ranting away from being taken away.
To a lot of people, trans women are just women they can still abuse.
This is also taking place in Florida. A state that began horrible and has just doubled down on it in the last 20 years.
In 1977, Anita Bryant famously led the campaign claiming to "save the children from gays" during a vote in Miami-Dade County. While the law she supported was later overturned, Florida has long had a history of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment.
Transphobia rots the brain. The fact the store still fired her is insane. I hope she just takes them to court instead of taking her old job back.
I hope she retires after suing Walmart for millions.
Sorry to bust your bubble but that won't happen. Walmart is infamous for drowning people that sue them in litigation until they are bankrupt.
She's free to sue them for sue but that at best will get her a small payout that her legal bills will immediately consume. That's only if Walmart offered her a payout, I'd say in this political climate and in Florida they would just grind her down.
lol, she'll get a few grand after years of effort, pain, and outright harassment.
Tort reform put a stop to all of that in the nineties
once again: transphobia is just misogyny
bring back all access grumpiness towards all
Not only, since TERFs exist.
TERFs also are misogynists. They hate women that don’t fit their mold.
terfs are misogynistic as fuck.
You can't just say everything you don't like is misogyny.
I didn't. I said transphobia is misogyny. if you disagree I'd be happy to hear anything more substantive than "nuh-uh".
Transphobia is transphobia. Misogyny is misogyny.
so you don't have anything. let me help you: give me an example of transphobia in the real world that doesn't have roots in misogyny. should be easy enough to point to any example considering how much we're swimming in transphobia lately.
are you lost?
Nope.
so in response to me saying give me an example of transphobia that's not rooted in misogyny, you decided to cite the example that we were already talking about, literally in the comment thread which started by me saying this is just misogyny... and you thought that was not in any way fucking insane, is that correct?
The whole comment train is me saying you're wrong, so rather than being insane, I think it's consistent.
you haven't said anything. I asked you if you had anything other than "nuh-uh" and you keep demonstrating you don't.
Why should I? Misogyny is misogyny. Transphobia is transphobia. It's tautological. Suggesting that transphobia is secretly something else requires a high burden of proof.
I love that you used tautology as an argument like that's at all supposed to be convincing. Is that your contribution to the any discussion about whether X is Y?
"hotdog is hotdog. sandwich is sandwich. ooga booga." wow thanks dude very enlightening. people didn't know that different words were different, and I guess humans can't be animals because it's two different words.
It's not "secretly something else". It's obviously and blatantly misogyny.
Why do you think any time you hear something about transphobia it's about a woman? Why does no one talk about how trans men should use the women's restroom, or should compete in women's sports? Why do cis women constantly get harassed and falsely accused of being trans, even in high profile cases like Imane Khelif, by major outlets and leading transphobes like jowling kowling rowling?
because transphobia is rooted in misogyny, and is an extension of it. think about it: why would anyone give a shit about what people say and do about their gender if they didn't have strict opinions about gender roles and didn't see women as the "weaker sex"?
they wouldn't give a shit. being a man or woman literally wouldn't make a difference if they believed in gender equality. therefore they don't. and guess what, the inequal nature they believe in does not have women on top of the hierarchy.
think about it: why would anyone give a shit about what people say and do about their gender if they didn’t have strict opinions about gender roles and didn’t see women as the “weaker sex”?
JK Rowling: "am I a joke to you?"
yes she is, which is why I LITERALLY USED HER AS MY ONE SPECIFIC EXAMPLE OH MY FUCKING GOD WILL YOU PLEASE READ WITH YOUR EYES AND REGISTER THE WORDS WITH YOUR BRAIN BEFORE YOU START TYPING JKR IS A MASSIVE FUCKING MISOGYNIST
So we're back to "you can't just call anything you don't like misogyny".
I truly don't understand your angle. There's plenty of actual misogyny to rage against without also appropriating the struggles of trans people.
first of all trans women are women, so misogyny affects them just the same. there's no appropriation here.
second of all, it's not "anything I don't like", she's a fucking misogynist. literally accused a woman, a cis woman at that, not that it matters to me but it ostensibly should to the likes of her, of being a man for looking a certain way. of course it doesn't matter to her though because she's a misogynistic cunt. even after knowing she was cis she didn't apologize or take back anything she said. she hates women.
I would say read her books but I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy so maybe listen to someone who has suffered through them and has something to say about her misogyny.
What is this All Lives Matter bullshit rofl
literally nothing to do with all lives matter. I haven't seen so many brain broken takes in a row in so long.
Or you might just be an idiot
Stop minimizing transphobia and misogyny both by equating them.
that's not minimizing either. you're just taking offense for no reason. saying hotdog is a sandwich wouldn't take anything away from either term.
Seems like a slam dunk lawsuit. I hope she wins.
"But you can always tell! They're so obvious!"
Not a shock that Rural Redneck Inc. has dipshits for managers, as the owners are some of the most unethical monsters ever bred in the capitalist culture of America.
The "Toupee Fallacy"
a man who mistook her for transgender verbally threatened her in a women’s restroom
Self-righteousness and reasoning are often mutually exclusive
I'm assuming he threatened her as she was going into or coming out of the restroom.
These are the men threatening your daughters and wives on women's restrooms
As people predicted, transphobia has affected cis people.
It always has. See: Olympics women’s boxing.
I want to say something about how stupid this is, but there are no words in all the 5 languages I speak fluently to describe the amount of stupid in this.
I want to figure out how stupid this is, but there are no equations in all of the high level math and physics I perform regularly and flawlessly to calculate the amount of stupid in this.
Me too except im. Beter and also good at English
Being a linguist I understand exactly zero percent of your subject so I will trust your statement
I tried to study the stupidity in this and I got 3 PhDs and an MBA while trying, but still can't.
Well maybe some extra terrestrial being comes over and studies it because us people from earth just can’t do it
But at least you know how to sell stupid.
omg let’s go after everybody that doesn’t fit some kind of white heteronormative cookie cutter idea of humanity
So.. middle school?
That's pretty much where the magoffs are, emotionally and intellectually.
I don't know, most middle schoolers learn and grow out of it. MAGAs are not up to that level.
Redneck fuck should a been arrested for being in the ladies room to begin with. Pervert
If someone absolutely had to be fired over this, it's her supervisor for either not telling her to let a higher up know, or being a god dam supervisor and not reporting it up the chain themselves. WTF
Why did Walmart fire her for being attacked? Isn't that one if the easiest wrongful termination lawsuits ever?
Most people who are wrongfully terminated don't take it to court. It might now be remedied since the press jumped on it but the remedy usually involved rehiring which is probably not ideal at this point.
Walmart made sure they were specific about the reason being reporting to the wrong supervisor and creating a security risk. Can't call it wrong that way.
She created the security risk, not the guy attacking her, riiiiiight?
So fragile and white...

WTF. For not informing salaried management? GTFO. She has a job to do and your bullshit corporate structure is dumb. Its a management failure for adding complexity where there shouldnt be any. Instead of any 360 introspection, they took what they thought was the easy way out. Salaried employee? Yeah, where was the manager when all this was happening? Great question. Not a brain cell fired, no pause at sanctioning harassment of employees. Walmart can suck it. Cheap disposable shit anyway. Leaches created the environment that requires their teet. Do all you can to shop direct and local.
For a while now I've been paying attention to the way customers are treated, and noticed a kind of symmetry with how the employees of a given business/institution are treated. If you're seeing one kind of abuse/neglect, the other is very likely to also be the case, because it all comes from the same place.
In the case of Walmart: employees under a rather heavy yoke of part-time-no-benefits-never-unions labor, and customers are given a dis-compassionate choice between poorly made and barely viable goods from dubious origins. It's not that management/ownership doesn't care about this or that, it's that they generally don't care about people and are grotesque about it. It's all here.
Let me just state the obvious: They fired her due to the current US administration. She got harassed in the first place because of the current US administration.
Trump is effecting corporate decisions without even making in specific executive orders as well bolstering the common rightwing individual's boldness in harassing people.
current US administration is the same goddamn administration as the one we had the last four years and the last four years before that
has the minimum wage turned into living wage, or were the jackboots defunded, did we start giving a shit about the planet, did we suddenly give out universal healthcare, did we stop filling up prisons during anyone's reign as puppet of the united states?
and we still get rid of dissidents in various ways like carting them off to some out of country prison that is an extra awful hell
just because the elites decide the new decorating color is Blue or Red does not mean things are magically going to get better
that takes revolutions
MLK and Malcom X knew this
Saying that the previous administration is as bad as the current one is exactly how everyone ended up in this mess.
There are measurable changes that the current administration has made - for the worse. To pretend or think otherwise is being ignorant.
Its quite simple. The events reported on this post would not have happened if Kamala Harris had won the 2024 Presidential election.
If you disagree, you are either willfully stupid or malevolent and no one should listen to a word you say.
Both sides are terrible and terribly similar in all sorts of bad ways. I have hated every President in my lifetime ( back to Reagan) ALL of them have been terrible so most years I would sound like you but Trump is different. He is all the worst qualities of the worst both sides have to offer and then turn it up to 11. I hate Democrats as much as Republicans normally but this piece of warm wet dogshit is on a whole other level. I would vote for any of our past trash Presidents and be happy about it if it meant no more Trump... ever.
like any of the votes ever actually mattered or were really counted
United States has all but said it is all show and both parties treat the elections like some to do party they have every four years
"I promise fascism not now, but later" is not a viable strategy to fighting fascism. Democrats promise to not be fascists, but they also promise to ensure that fascism will come about in the future. Republicans are fascism now, Democrats are fascism later.
Well if later is after I'm dead that works for me
you will make a great boomer one day
One day, I feel like I'm ready right now
How the fuck can you reprimand someone for not reporting an incident properly when they report it to their supervisor? The supervisor's responsibility at that point is to either inform the employee of the proper way to report it or report it on their behalf. If the report doesn't come through properly then the supervisor has failed to fulfill their duties, not the other employee.
They know all this. They didn't fire her out of ignorance.
Why retaliate at all though?
In his dissent in Plessy v. Ferguson, John Marshall Harlan cited one of his objections to Louisiana's public transit segregation law as being that it effectively left the execution of policy to railroad porters. Homer Plessy was a light-skinned Creole man whose family was free before the Civil War. He would have enjoyed roughly equal rights to Whites up until the first generation of Jim Crow laws in the 1870s. Harlan pointed out that the criteria for "White" and "Black" for the purposes of segregation was not solid, just being whoever was in charge of the segregated facilities looking at them and determining what they are.
There is nothing new under the Sun.
history doesn’t repeat but it sure does rhyme, as once said
I would boycott Walmart but I already started boycotting them over a decade ago. I understand some people in tight financial situations need the lower prices they can get from places like Walmart. And therefore they cannot so freely boycott such a place but if you're somebody who can avoid it I would advise steering clear of that shit hole. Their policies are trash and the family that owns it are oligarchical douche bags.
This falls under "suffer on my own terms" for me. I won't go to Walmart, so we're going without extras. There's no cheese in my house right now because none was on sale at my local grocery store. So instead of going to Walmart, or paying $4 for a block of Cabot cheddar at my grocer, the choice is go without cheese for the time being.
Used to shop minimally at Walmart anyway, now I refuse to go. I go to my local co-op 2ce a week now though.
Bulk spices are cheap y'all.
Really sucks Cabot has gotten so expensive from the terrifs, it's so much better than the store brand stuff.
I'm sorry. Cabot is better than any store brand I've had, I only started buying it because it is regional to me years ago.
There may still be some local cheese brands available to you. Small farm cheese makers make some good stuff. At one point in my life, I didn't eat much meat or dairy, but when I did, I bought what was local to me, even if it was expensive, and cherished it each time I indulged. I respected that locally made small farm cheese like it was the god of cheeses and gave it utmost culinary respect, while trying to make it last as long as possible.
Suffer on your own terms I say. If you want good cheese, have good cheese, the suffer would be you have less cheese overall, but at least when you do, you know it is quality and supports local makers.
I'm lucky enough to I've around a couple of really good local creameries, and they have some amazing cheeses (Mooncake by sugar house creamery is my favorite). But a couple of years ago I became lactose intolerant. Cabot cheddar doesn't bother me, but most other cheeses do. At least I can still eat as much goat cheese as I want.
When you're so committed to "protecting women's spaces" that you go into a women's restroom to harass a woman.
FIT YOURSELF INTO THE PROPERLY SHAPED HOLE OR DIE
The square hole? /tik-tok meme
Haven't set foot in a Walmart in years...
Several reasons I refuse to do business with them.
This is just affirming some of those reasons.
Fuck Walmart.
🙄 🤡 🖕 🖕
in other words, this is a reason for the workers to unionize.
The whole thing with supervisors is kafkaesque, too. In most situations, going over your supervisor's head is a bad idea. In this situation, Walmart expected it!
Not saying anything positive about the company, but just to add context: they have invited her back with back pay, but she is hesitant to do so fearing a hostile work environment.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/03/27/walmart-fires-woman-trans-hate-bathroom/
"After discriminating against you pretty harshly and illegally, we are offering you your job back and back pay as compensation. There is no guarantee that we will treat you well and there will be no repercussions for us."
Walmart
Right? This part stuck out to me:
She appealed the termination through Walmart’s internal review process but was denied. She filed for unemployment insurance but also took her story to Facebook, where it soon went viral.
Walmart appeared to acknowledge the error in a statement released to the media.
“We want our associates to feel safe and supported in their workplace, and we won’t tolerate bullying or threats of violence against our associates or customers,” Walmart spokesperson Joe Pennington said in a statement. “We’ve reviewed the situation and will be addressing it internally. We’ve also made multiple attempts to invite Ms. Davis to return to work, with back pay.”
Oh, really, NOW you're taking it seriously because you know you fucked up? What a fucking obviously canned corporate response. I'd be calling lawyers left and right after that, I bet more than a few would take it pro-bono.
And then we will quietly get rid of you in a few months for "unrelated" reasons.
There is no guarantee that we will treat you well
...
Walmart
Quite the opposite in fact.
Walmart should have "fired" that customer, ie trespass him. WTF was this goon doing in the women's restroom anyway?
"Trespassing" someone, in a Walmart context, means the person is banned from a store and if they return they will legally be trespassing and may be arrested.
Asking the real question
What ever happened to people just minding their own business?
Seriously, just help when you can and but out otherwise. EASY peasy recipe for a better life.
It’s almost like “Ignorance is bliss” got mixed into “intolerance is better” somewhere along the way.
Donald loves it. He wants more of it! Make America Alone Again!
This mother fucker needs to be banned immediately
Yo wtf is this link you fucking piece of shit
Thanks for the heads up but can those of us who are definitely NOT clicking it at least get a description?
I don’t even know, look like it wants to download something. He’s spamming it and hiding what it is across multiple threads
So script kiddie shit. Really brings me back...
What a fucking chode that guy is.
These fucking Conservatives desperately need to have their fucking heads kicked in. They're fucking apes; they don't understand anything else.
Sue their pants off so we can see what’s in THEIRS
Fuck yes.
Really doubt Walmart allows carrying a gun on the job.
You could say the same about a variety of things. That doesn't make it a good option.
Jesus fucking christ.
Land of the free
Whoever told you that is your enemy

For once in my life I'd like to see one of companies respond in the same way that got them in the situation in the first place. Like if Walmart just responded, "lol fuck you idc" it would actually make me less angry than this bullshit.
"lol fuck you idc" is the standard response 99% of the time. It's only the small minority of cases that get picked up by the media where they pretend to give a shit.
The company does not have your best interest in mind, ever. I'm going to guess the supervisor she opened up to is going to get fired now for not reporting or something.
My goodness. this poor woman. Man. People suck a lot nowadays.
It's a very specific group of people who suck like this, and they think they're the heroes of the story.
That's a helluva lawsuit. They'll likely settle out of court.v Heres hoping she makes out with retirement money.
This is our world now…please remember Inclusion Day April 30!🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
so what the fuck. stop fucking with people. calm your shit before your desire to have a panic attack bleeds out and infects others.
This is so wrong man. Jfc
"As of 2024, the Adolph Coors Foundation is the only one of the three organizations still publicly disclosing support for the conservative group."
The fucking WHAT Coors Foundation?
Coors was founded by a man named Adolph Coors, long before that name became problematic due to its association with a terrible carbonated liquid.
Well played. This made me laugh.
#JACKPOT
WTAF.
Fuck walmart and double fuck Florida.
I hope this poor girl can flee the state. Does she have a gofundme to help with moving expenses?
I need to go out Google searching what is a cisgender and... The world if fcked up
if you ever want to learn more https://genderdysphoria.fyi/en/is a pretty good resource 👍
Naaaa Im cool but thanks anyway
I didn't know what it meant either. Apparently I have a label now without trying.
Being a cis woman does not automatically mean someone is straight; gender identity (cisgender) and sexual orientation (straight) are distinct concepts, and a cis woman can be of any sexual orientation. I didn't know exactly what a cis-someone was so I searched the web for that.
Correct. Cis basically just means "not trans". Glad you took the time to educate yourself on that.
in fact they come from the same Latin roots! "trans-" = "on the other side of", "cis-" = "on the same side of." Useful to know as some will use the word "transgender" and take offense to being labeled "cisgender" - if one word is valid, they both are.
Thanks, I was actually looking for that and just couldn't figure it out. Not in the entire 2 minutes I had to make that happen at lunch.
Is this headline missing a few words? I am unclear what happened, even after reading the story. Some guy thought she was trans so she was fired? I feel like there is some missing information here.
I think management wanted her fired for fear of a similar incident. Fuck Walmart.
