Interesting. First time seeing a Lemmy instance being subscription based.
Curious, the offering has been around for a while
Having 4000 users paying $19/year could fund a full-time admin for $76k.
Indeed, the question is how many people are ready to pay 20$ a year for Lemmy
It's actually not that much but might still be a hurdle to some.
I've set up a monthly donation for my instance at 5€ per month. I end up paying more than 20€ per year, but I wasn't forced to do so to sign up. Considering there's so many instances to create an account on, I'm not sure how many people (will) sign up.
Interesting concept tho
Definitely an unique instance to take note of, having all the servers under one banner makes it easy to fund the servers.
I find the subscription model interesting, and I think that it'd be exponentially more interesting if paired with a co-op structure - similar to a consumer co-op
I like the model, like what metafilter did $5 a month
