What am I looking at? Found in the German Alps

9mon 4d ago by programming.dev/u/mrks in geology@lemmy.ca from programming.dev

Hey geologists! I found this stone during a hike in the German Alps. Could you please help me identify what I am looking at? Could this be a fossil? I would say the dimensions were 30x30cm.

Prehistoric butt worms. 💯

They had to live in butts because brains hadn't been invented yet.

Send them to the US government so they have a new habitat.

FTFY, cause they're all wankers

Likely some type of trace fossil, from things living in mud under the water https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trace_fossil

you could search 'fossils german alps', if these are common i presume theyre easy to find online

also taking photos of rocks, its good to include something for scale, a coin, a lense cap, whatever

getting to see this kind of stuff out in the world is always really exciting, enjoy!

Thank you for your reply!

Yeah, I was thinking about that only after the fact unfortunately. Was hoping the dimensions might suffice.

Next time remember to bring a banana.

I had a Knoppers bar in my backpack. But I forgor 😔

It appears to be a rock, and some gravel.
