We look at the Minisforum N5 Pro an awesome 5-bay NAS with 10GbE and a super-fast AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 CPU with ECC memory support

Interesting box but way overkill for the average punter.

Yeah, for $1,000 with no memory or hard drives, plus it idles at 50 watts.

50w? Jesus, that's a lot.

Looks awesome, just missing space for a GPU (often necessary for real-time transcoding).

Not true.

I have one. And I have a half height gpu in it. Intel A310.

Is that GPU useful for video transcoding?

Absolutely.

I run unraid and their kernel version isn’t up to date to handle the cpu/gpu newness yet. So streaming a single 4k pinned my cpu.

This 100 dollar vid card handles at least 4 discrete 4k streams without breaking a sweat and my cpu has little to no activity..
