My first ever attempt at a darning patch.

I bought some kids stretchy jeans for €1.50 and will be using them to learn. I darned this patch using one of the maracas in the children's toy section (another €1.50) as my darning mushroom.
The thread was from the same thrift store. I paid about €1 for both.
I know I need to work on keeping my warps even and I think I need to develop my strategy regarding my weft. I don't like the edges.
I feel like I watched 40 videos on how to do this. This patch could be functional if needed but I would like it to be better. I think that will mostly come from practice.
Ultimately I want to customize my daughter's clothes (currently 18 months} and eventually do more. I would love to learn this well enough that I could help keep my kids clothes operational and funky.
I plan on learning what to do with the loose strings this week. I know there are options about knots and sewing in the ends so you don't feel the knots. I'd like to learn the differences and which strategy to choose.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks. I liked them too.
