Erm actually this was later corrected in a letter written 14 April, 1963 to Tolkein's optometrist and was referenced in The Silmarilion Appendix 3: Reference 8.1.A3
I laugh at these... people, that don't know about The Silmarilion Appendix 3: Reference 8.1.A3 and it's origins as a letter written 14 April, 1963 to Tolkein’s optometrist. Pfft
