Cheeky Monk parakeets surveying their new domain

Seen in Vallecas, a suburb of Madrid.
Here nobody pays any attention to them, basically they're pigeons but greener and LOUDER. I believe they were eating trash. Alas.
Ha, look at them preening! 🥺
Their new domain?
An urban car park far from South America.
But how did they get there?
Feral population descended from escaped pets.
Now I'm confused again... They've been there since the 70s... Your caption said new domain, so I was thinking those specific birds were very new to the specific spot they were photographed at
The 1970s is pretty recent in evolutionary terms! It was just a way to say that these birds are beautiful and fun but they're also an invasive species.
Oh! Ok, that makes sense. This is what happens when I try and over think things before my coffee has kicked in :P
