That principle is only right for children & the naive.
Anyone who is committed to earning/facing their Eternity, their soul-itself, HAS to prefer truths to narcissism's beloved-beliefs/feelings.

Some people can use falsehoods to motivate themselves and that can be a better driving force than reality beating you down.
At least that’s my interpretation of the quote.
Since reality is already a perceptual illusion, I reckon we ought to be taking some agency in its illusory construction and finding some ways to improve our perceptions.
