Netflix Hikes Prices Again, Impacting All Plan Tiers

$27/month for UHD content. Just bananas.

At that price, you can flat-out buy a physical copy of one brand new movie every month, and in a year you'll have a better movie catalog than Netflix does.

Yes, but have considered all "The Rock" movies you will miss out on?

Another benefit of not having streaming. hehe

Or for $5-$10 a year you can get usenet and watch whatever you want

What Usenet provider is $5-$10 per year?

Newshosting, giganews, easynews.

Honestly it's more likely to find one in that price range than one higher.

I’m an idiot. I read that as 5-10 per month.

I canceled Netflix about 10 years ago, thinking I'd just build a catalog of shows and movies with physical media. So far I only own the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Baraka and Samsara 😅. I so rarely turn my TV on anymore, I'm starting to feel like I should sell it

Baraka is incredible.

Lovely weather for sailing today

Ahoy!

Yar!

Yo ho!

Shiver me timbers!

I pay $7 a month for a VPN, and Jellyfin is free. Unrelated, of course.

I have a lifetime Plex membership (when on special), a yearly $25 Usenet account, a lifetime nzb indexer subscription, and my Synology NAS runs a Plex server with sabnzbd, sonarr, radarr and overseerr.

Just joining this casual conversation of random technologies we have.

Radarr and Sonarr also have a list feature which can link to, for example, all shows on Netflix. I would never dream of adding that if I used these.

I'm in the market for a usenet account, a reader and an indexer. Which providers should I be eyeing up to make it all happen? I travel full time and don't have a home NAS. I want to watch movies and trashy TV series for the Mrs. Thanks for any suggestions

I use newshosting (Usenet), nzbgeek (indexer) and sanzbd (reader). All pretty cheap or free. Obviously only works if computer is on (hence NAS). You could always build your own NAS if you have some spare drives and a PC case lying around. It's also worth getting the -arr suite of tools and a server and player to organise it all (plex, emby, jellyfin) or VLC if one file at a time but trust me, its much nicer using a proper server and player, especially if others are involved - my 7yo has been able to use Plex and watch her shows since she was 4.

Usenet is king. Good on ya.

I pay about $10/mo for a seedbox that I can click magnet links in my browser and open in there, and it comes with emby (and doesn't "charge" me for the streaming bandwidth used).

Not better than yours, just comparing my solution. Point is, there's options that work so much better than streaming.

I'd gladly pay for one or two streaming sites if that covered almost all of it, but not a dozen. Can't afford it.

Edit: Site linked below was taken down. See below for my recommendations:
