A 19-year-old Florida man has been arrested after authorities say he killed, dismembered, and stuffed the body of a registered sex offender in a suitcase and left it in a remote area of Palm Bay.
An investigation revealed that surveillance footage captured Daniel arriving at Jones’ home around 5:32 p.m. on March 20. Daniel, who lived about a mile away, was never seen leaving Jones’ house.
He reportedly admitted to her that he killed Daniel because Daniel was a sex offender. She told investigators she did not know how the two met, but said Jones had printed a list of sex offenders.
I think this is called mission-oriented killing, though it sounds like maybe it was his first killing, it still sounds like it fits the motive of a mission-oriented serial killer.
semi-related: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowtown_murders(and the film based on the murders)
Weren't some of the killers pedos?
in the Snowtown murders? I think it was mostly victims who were paedophiles, as far as I know. The main killer had been sexually assaulted as an 8 year old, so that may have been a major motivator.
that said, apparently the main ring-leader of the killers didn't exactly do much research to verify suspicions of their victims supposed paedophilia, either, and the reasons for targeting victims became more broad (e.g. obesity, homosexuality, drug use, etc.)

oh, thanks! does the podcast reveal the killers were pedos too? or do I have to listen to find out? 😉
for those following along, here's a link to the first part of the aforementioned podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq_aiw5DzBM
I'm slowly working through the film, and might have more success with a podcast than the film - thanks for the rec!
I believe some of the followers they got, were pedos or had tendencies. It pretty much just became people thirsty for blood and like you mentioned, used any excuse to kill someone.
Wonder what the offense was. Not trying to defend sex offenders but the term could mean horrible rapist or it could mean an 18 year old had a 17 year old partner and the parents hated the relationship.
OR it could mean peeing outside
it was not, he was convicted of:
Lewd or Lascivious Battery with a Victim 12-15 Years of Age
Colie Lee Daniel, 28, of Indialantic was a registered sex offender under Florida law. His 2018 conviction was for lewd or lascivious battery on a victim between 12 and 15 years old. When he was convicted, Lucas Sander Jones, the 19-year-old now charged in connection with his death, was 12 years old
[Daniel's] qualifying conviction, case number 1716544 in Brevard County, was adjudicated October 29, 2018: Lewd or Lascivious Battery with a Victim 12-15 Years of Age, under Florida Statute 800.04(4)(a)(1)

Quick maths tells me Daniel was around 20 years old when he was convicted?
The article seems to imply the victim of Daniel's sexual crime might have been the killer, Jones, because of the ages lining up.
I was curious about this too, but the crime in question was committed in 2017 against someone Daniel knew from school, so I don't think it was the murderer. There's no excusing what he did, but he wasn't given a death sentence for it.
another reason to think Jones wasn't Daniel's victim was that Jones had printed off a sheet of sex offenders nearby, so that makes it really look like he printed a list and chose someone from the list
EDIT: and yes, extrajudicial killings like when the justice system has already weighed evidence and punished the crime is clearly bad for society - we generally want to restrain killings and violence, lest it get out of control and target innocent people (or as you pointed out, so that it avoids inappropriate punishment of crimes that don't deserve death).
Offense : Lewd or Lascivious Battery with Victim 12-15 Years of Age F.S. 800.04(4)(a)(1) Date Convicted : 10/29/2018
The title makes it sound like that the body is now a teen, and is being charged with a crime.
What happened to using commas instead of 'and' in article titles? That would have cleared things right up.
