Lesbians Like Me Joined Forces with Conservatives. Now They’re Turning on Us.

2mon 10d ago by lemmy.world/u/DoctorNope in leopardsatemyface from www.queermajority.com

When the “woke” mania swept the country in 2020, I took a step back and reevaluated where I stood and why I stood there. To my surprise, I found that I agreed with conservatives and libertarians on a number of issues. I opposed childhood gender transitions, unlawful and divisive DEI mandates, and the excesses of Critical Race Theory. I argued against biological males competing in women’s sports and being housed in women’s prisons. I did so loudly and publicly, losing many friends along the way.

Today, some of those same attorneys I worked with are advocating for my right to marry my fiancée to be stripped away.

I fell for obvious right-wing propaganda and rationalized the hate with reason and logic. Now the hate machine is coming for me and that's not fair!

The whole affair made something clear: for many on the right, their past tolerance of gay and bi people who aligned with them on a few pet issues was never rooted in principle. It was always about convenience. We were never truly accepted — just temporarily useful. And now that some of us have outlived our political utility, they’re more than happy to throw us to the wolves the moment the opportunity arises.

I am still incredulous at the existence of Log Cabin (gay male) Republicans, or even Peter Thiel.

Why on earth would you give any support to an organization dedicated to the destruction of people like you?

Does your own hatred of minorities and the poor make you willing to risk joining forces with those who are likely to come after you next?

Exactly. It's not exactly like the right-wing hide their distain for all people of the LGBT spectra.

It's the classic "but I'm one of the good ones" trope. There's no such thing, just tokens to be used and tossed away.

No matter how much you try to be a "good one", you'll never truly be accepted amongst those who hate your kin. Once you've outlived your usefulness, they'll eat your face just like everyone else.

There were Jews in Germany who supported the Nazis.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_German_National_Jews

Most of the members and their families were killed during the Holocaust.

Because Peter Thiel is a billionaire first and a gay man second. He knows that his wealth will insulate him from the consequences of his actions.

and he has money to prevent MSM from outing him completely, almost never hear him in the news, and he has paid to silence any criticism of him.

He spent millions to bring down Gawker because Nick Denton wondered aloud in the comments of an article why Peter Thiel was still in the closet.

Peter Thiel has confidence that his own personal power will keep him safe. Since he's a sociopath, having homosexuality be illegal actually benefits him because if he gets tired of a relationship he can just out the other man and have them executed.

It's not entirely clear to me whether history supports his confidence. But little no-name "activists" like the article author are always going to be destroyed.

thiel did defenestrated younger boytoy(not the husband) in florida in 2024, when the model was causing "problems" for thiel.

Because class beats race or sexual preference every time. Peter Thiel is rich first, gay second. Kanye is rich first, black second.

Those billionaires will use any means they can to accumulate power, just ask Gawker about it.

Caitlyn Jenner too.

was never rooted in principle.

Republicans have no principles. Ask them in 2024 if they would support Biden going to war with Iran, and they would laugh in your face. But in a March 25 poll 79% of Republicans approved of Trump's current actions.

Republicans just repeat the last thing they heard on Fox News.

Wow, I did not know that Cohn was gay. Thanks!

Rat bastard hates to be called gay, but likes shoving his sausage onto men he gets turned on.

you have token or mirror?

This may have been explained earlier, apologies for any repetition on my end.

Internalized hatred is real and is a huge factor in this. Many people, when they feel they are on the ‘other’ side of oppression, easily take on the role of oppressors themselves. They believe they have ‘paid their dues’ and found success, and even feel as though they are even more qualified to judge and weigh the rights and qualifications of those in their previous position. It’s very similar to the mindset of older people who have paid off their student loans and staunchly believe that student loan forgiveness is wrong. They think that since they ‘put the work into it and upheld their end of the bargain’, it somehow diminishes their efforts if those that come after them have an easier path. Our confusion lies in the understanding that this is not the direction that progress exists.

Another point, which can be separate from the above or exist alongside: it is a simple fact that being a minority in any group does not mean that person is exempt from feeling prejudice or even discrimination towards minorities in other groups and anyone else for that matter. In a world ready to categorize, divide, and split the tiniest hairs to serve that aim, its a small wonder why we see so many hurt people hurting people.

Does your own hatred of minorities and the poor make you willing to risk joining forces with those who are likely to come after you next?

Yes

peter thiel doesn’t care, it’s about the grift

nothing will impact him personally

Thiel plays it safe by staying out of the spotlight, and backing conservatives behind the scenes. Plus we never hear conservatives every attacking THIEL for being gay for any long periods of time, because he has the msm wrapped around his fingers. the "closest" was his young model SIDEPIECE being defenestrated in florida in 2024, which barely stayed on the news long.

trumper gays drank the whole koolaid of the right, they think they are special because they are wealthy or rich.

Does your own hatred of minorities and the poor make you willing to risk joining forces with those who are likely to come after you next?

Yes.

Exactly that.

Just yes, that is literally exactly how that works.

This is a very common theme in the production of leopard food.

Dumb idiot opportunistic greedy traitors, of one sort or another, who cannot comprehend that patriarchichal heteronormative white christian extremist men ... are the primary base of their political power, and they demand subjegation of anyone who isn't that.

Like, Ben Shapiro falls into this... he's a Jew, he's a Zionist, ... Ramiswamy is Indian... everyone whose ever been called an Uncle Tom (or I guess the more modern version is Uncle Ruckus from the Boondocks) ... all the Trad Wives that within 5 years barely escape with their lives and sanity intact, or sometimes without those things...

"Surely all those other people who tried to beat this carnival games were simple country rubes, whereas I have finally figured out the winning strategy that will surely allow me to beat this definitely not-rigged game!"

Stupid rigged game.

They may destroy you, yes. But they will also oppose those unlawful DEI mandates. At the end of the day, is that not what truly matters?

/s

I don’t want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member.

My stance wasn’t rooted in hate or fear but in a commitment to reason and fairness. My loyalty was to the truth, not to political tribes. Maintaining my integrity cost me greatly, but I believed it was worth it.

Hey Reid Newton: you're a bigot and a complete fucking moron. Anyone that has two functioning braincells figured out within 10 minutes of first hearing it that "critical race theory" was just a euphemism for "the honest history of how America has fucked over every racial minority consistently though its entire history". If you think that DEI or critical race theory are real problems, you have the critical thinking skills of a brick wall. Fuck this gal for trying to rationalize her betrayal of her own community.

100%

Also the "it wasn't a fear-based decision, I just rationally opposed all the forced child gender-transitions". It's not possible to roll ones eyes hard enough.

I actually do have empathy for a TERF who'd say, "I uncritically chugged conservative media and become terrified of stories about men 'transitioning' as a way to attach women. Now I see that was all lies and I was a fool who never tried putting myself in others' shoes."

attach women

Did you mean 'attack'?

TERF - Transylvanian Entity Repeatedly Feeding

It's interesting how the English language makes a phrase like "trans women are women" ambiguous about the number of women that each trans woman is... I always assumed "one" but you raise an interesting question.

...what are you talking about? That question is about a typo.

The question itself self-answers with a little bit of thought: reading the typo as-is doesn't make sense and there's only one obvious correction, which SalmiakDragon provided. So I read their question as more conversation/chattiness rather than genuine confusion. I was replying in kind with an attempt to riff off of my typo: what if the typo was actually intended? Could we find any meaning to the phrase "attach women"? No, not really.

I was trying to be polite, and leave room in case I had misunderstood. A simple clarification of what you meant would have sufficed.

Oh, my bad then. Yes: you were right.

Given the correlation between trans and plurality, the average is probably higher than one... although I think we would not have much trouble finding a trans woman who would enthusiastically assert her lack of personhood.

also it was one fucking book that the PR machine blew out of proportion, I read it at the time and i really struggle to remember what was even in it, it was just some essays about the history of race in the US, which have just merged with all my other memories of similar stories

CRT is poorly defined; every time I hear it discussed I just think of the immortal words of Bo Burnham: "The backlash to the backlash to the thing that's just begun."

DEI on the other hand is well-defined (if increasingly misused nowadays) and I actually think there are good arguments to disapprove of it. Race really shouldn't be used as a proxy for diagnosing socioeconomic disadvantage; if a student has experienced adversity, you should use that directly to qualify them for aid or increased preference in admissions.

That Funny Feeling hit me like a pallet of bricks to the face when I first heard it. Couldn't stop sobbing for an hour. Still makes me tear up after so many relistens.

Yeah, Inside has some of the best music exploring those unique and, especially for the time, topical, themes that I've ever heard.

I might go listen to it right now...

You'd have to have been asleep for the last 50 years at least to not see this.

Nope, this is natural.

Like, straight up default human behavior, and conservativesare actually really good at manipulating people using basic human psychology.

An absolute shit ton of people who grew up as "outsiders" really just want to be with the majority "in group" and are willing to side with them against smaller minorities.

Like, that's the whole TERF thing in a nutshell.

Women who were treated poorly for being women, and trying to side with their abusers against a weaker target.

It's literally the reason most mothers abuse their children. Same psychology, just different target.

Hell, it's the same reason weak men target women and children in the first place

An innate desire for a "human pecking order" that displays at varying rates due to normal human variation.

Racism too, LBJ described it generations ago after seeing firsthand what Republicans were doing in the South:

If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/lbj-convince-the-lowest-white-man/

We need to understand why this keeps working to fight it...

It’s literally the reason most mothers abuse their children.

I'm sorry, but most mothers abuse their children? Where did you get this?

I'm reading that as "the reason most mothers who abuse their children do so"

Fair enough, that was probably the intention.

...

That's really how you took that?

Yeah, because that's literally what it says. And how am I supposed to know you don't actually believe that? Crazier things have happened! Figured I'd ask, to be sure.

I get what you intended to say though.

I took it that way too honestly. Honestly it made me skip reading the rest of your argument until I saw the comments below it talking about what you actually meant, so yeah, syntax is annoying but necessary for getting the point you want to make across. (I did go back and read the rest of your argument.)

Let's try again:

Having diabetes is the reason most people inject insulin.

Do you think that means:

  1. Most people inject insulin.

  2. Of the people who inject insulin, the most common reason for doing so is they have diabetes

It's the social trade-off to join the in-group. You get membership, but you're obligated to conform. So long as conformity is easy and light-weight, the appeal of joining the in-group can override your moral imperatives to others. But then the boundaries of acceptable behavior shift under your feet, and suddenly you can't be a part of the group without concealing or changing some fundamental part of your life.

Like, Reid Newton thinks gender transition and DEI and Critical Race Theory are all bullshit. Has she considered just... divorcing her wife and becoming straight? But no, that would be asking to much of herself. Suddenly, the cost of being a part of the in-group has grown too high, because it's a deeply personal cost.

This is a great way to self-reflect on these trade-offs before the leopards eat your face

They didn’t “turn on” you. They were never on your fucking side to begin with, and you were a goddamn idiot for believing their very obvious and blatant lies to the contrary.

You were a hateful bigot but are upset you aren't immune to the bigotry you fuel is all this article says.

"To my surprise, I found that I agreed with conservatives and libertarians on [...]"

...totally imaginary issues that only existed in right-wing hallucinations.

🤣

Yea like wtf is “woke mania”?

They only ever heard of it in 2020 because that’s when they were told to hate it.

I guess I’ve been “woke” since the 90s, but I’ve always just called it, “not being a fucking shithead”

It’s a way of saying”I hate black people”.

Its like Hulkamania but with blue-haired SJWs instead of Hulk Hogan.

Honestly, that sounds kind of awesome

Not hallucination, distraction from class struggle.

The rich fuel the fire of hatred between us so we do not stop to realize they are taking everything, and destroying everything. Cannot say this often enough.

"I found that while I supported my own rights as a sexual minority, I did not support the rights of other minorities whom I was not apart of"

That's what it is to think like a conservative:

"I found that while I supported my own rights, I did not support the rights of others whom I was not a part of."

Typical Conservatism

"Its stupid, wasteful, sinful, woke communism, until I can benefit from it, then its my well deserved patriotic right"

As well as the reverse… Any sort of injustice or inequity is fine, until it affects them personally.

It's a great example of why third wave feminism is correct

Reid is a true American: it only matters once she herself is negatively affected.

Also even then it's no reason at all to take a step back and reevaluate how much of the original talking points were bullshit, too.

This person needs to develop self-awareness: why is it only becoming a problem when it affects her directly?

Her issue doesn’t affect me at all but I still want to do the right thing. And I would never vote for Trump because it was pretty clear he wouldn’t do the right thing, in many human right and quality of life scenarios

(Plus he had a long history as a con man from before he ran for election, before he paid for his sleazy reality show to reset his reputation: I’m still confused how people could fall for this)

Specifically her ability to marry who she wants, because everything is about her.

Eh. Sounds like the queer version of a "the only moral abortion is my abortion" pro-lifer. It's kind of a thing over there.

It seems to be a variation in the extent to which one can easily extend empathy outside close kin groups to more extended or even abstract kin groups that defines what makes someone constitutionally more conservative or more liberal. It has to do with fear thresholds and openness to experience traits too but also empathy scope. And so my conclusion is that this woman is constitutionally more inclined towards a conservative mindset and that this is independent of her sexual orientation. Too bad for her that other conservatives will never be reliable allies for her because, even though she identifies with them, they can't empathize with what she is.

The problem isn’t so much about things becoming problems once they affect a person, it’s often that these people were never exposed to things affecting them personally before they became adults.

I am of the opinion that empathy develops best when people are exposed to life (for this exercise you are welcome to define “life” how you see fit).

While I have not personally been mistreated for my gender or race, and I have never had anybody murdered or abducted in my personal life, I have had a lot of other Bad Things(TM) happen to me that has developed a healthy sense of empathy. I can then use that empathy and apply it to those other situations. It’s like the analogy of lifting weights can train you to pick up and move heavy things (not just barbells).

People like this have led what I believe to be very sheltered lives. Maybe they were spoiled, never told no, whatever. As far as they ever knew the horribleness of the world only happened to other people (in books, papers, movies, and TV shows), who they were taught were deserving of such things, and that it would never happen to them regardless pf anything.

None of this is meant to excuse anyone’s behavior or lack of empathy. Never would I suggest such a thing. But it may help your sanity in having a possible understanding of how it might happen in the first place.

It may not; I am not presuming to know you or how you will react to anything I’ve just said.

YMMV.

Along the way in life I have met plenty of people who did have the awful things in life happen to them, and yet they still take this position. I have met many people who have been subject to bigotry all their lives, but then an trans person comes into the picture, and they expose themselves to be equally bigoted, and equally without empathy, and just as vicious.

People develop this way because they desperately want to be part of the power holding in-group, not the powerless out-group. So they will have their own out-group of marginalized people, whom they can feel some of that power over.

It could be a lot of things. I have learned that with how the world works there is no one single answer for why people do the things they do. So yeah, it could be ignorance as I suggested, a power grab/sense of belonging like you suggest, and/or something else entirely.

I also think people like this person in the article gets wha they deserve, regardless of why they are the way they are.

Based on my interactions with you in the past, you were unable to apply this same logic to the genocide in Gaza.

You don't actually live by the principle you just stated and hypocritically are fine with throwing someone else under the bus to protect yourself.

That was several years ago, though. Hopefully you've changed.

So they are a racist lesbian. Got it

I work with two lesbians who are (proudly) married and also diehard trumpers. No surprise at all: they hate black people.

Don't worry, they won't be able to vote soon.

That depends if they're the "let's keep our own names, fuck the patriarchy" type of lesbian, or the "let's bond in a quirky way by both changing our last name to a hyphenated or portmanteau'd form of our names" type of lesbian. The former would be unaffected by the proposed voting restrictions, while the latter could both have a great deal of trouble voting. It's the changing of the last name that's the problem.

Yet.

😭

A racist transphobic lesbian at that.

There are a lot of people who have benefited from the battles won by progressives yet they vote for conservatives or even fascists. Because they don’t like that progressives continue the battle and fight for other people that aren’t like them.

Unironically using the phrase "radical left" while faking contrition.

Yup. still a POS, only cares about the parts affecting her. Typical conservative.

It's the lesbians who are also racist ( not all lesbians, but the ones who happen to also be racist). I have personal experience with this and they are insane. In the same sentence they'll go against BLM and then complain that their rights are being taken away. I'm not exaggerating. But on the plus side, I quit facebook 100% at exactly that moment.

Edit: I didn't mean it in the way I now see it sounds. Sorry about that lesbians, I didn't mean to say all of you are racist. That one word made a difference.

Edit 2: Clarifying further.

Oh come on, let’s not engage in bigotry by painting all lesbians with the same brush.

I didn't? I said the "one's who are racist." You can be a straight racist, trans racist, lesbian racist, gay racist, etc. I think I had this idea that marginalized people would stick up for other marginalized people. It's shocking that there are a percentage that are just as shitty as the straight racists.

I edited and apologized, I haven't had my coffee yet. I meant the lesbians who are racist are shocking.

Edit: Also, thanks for calling it out, it gave me a chance to see where I fucked up.

I think it still might sound shitty. I'll try and fix it better. Thanks again.

I love comment chains like this! Kudos to you both.

:-)

99% of American politics makes sense once you understand that MAGA = Narcissist.

That's how black/gay/whatever person ends up MAGA. Their narcissism is stronger than their cultural/racial/whatever identity.

The choices they make, the way propaganda is able to work on them, the evil shit they can talk themselves into supporting? It's all fueled by narcissism.

they also believe if they are well off enough, whites will seem them as equals, whites only see them as TOKENs at best. i saw some asian tubers that slowly became magaty over covid, albiet quite lazily. they think if they say the same talking points they get more views, add a little mysogyny too.

The fuck are you on about? Are you implying white people cannot be gay, lesbian, trans, or a woman?

You seem to be under the impression that only white men can be racist or misogynist, but if you ever meet people from anywhere in the world, you'll find that it's the same everywhere.

Are you implying white people cannot be gay, lesbian, trans, or a woman?

No, but the "white people" we are talking about would consider a white gay person, a gay person, and a white woman, is a woman.

TL;DR: fuckwad TERF gets what everyone else saw coming.

You fucking idiot.

Absolute donkey.

Really all that needs to be said

I was ok hating minorities, but when they turned on my fellow lesbians and I, I done got upset!

Jesus fucking Christ these fucking people

As a 29-year-old lesbian engaged to be married, this turn of events is personal for me. And it may be one I helped contribute to.

No. You absolutey and whole-heartedly helped contribute to it.

I worked toward what I believed — and still believe — to be true. I still oppose radical gender ideology and Critical Race Theory in schools. I still believe that biological males shouldn’t compete in women’s sports or be housed in women’s prisons. But I will not stand by while LGBT rights are legislated away.

Human Rights belong to all humans, you racist TERF.

Reid Newton, from the bottom of my heart: I hope your life goes as well as you treat trans people.

Guess Who's Next

Now the hate machine is coming for me and that’s not fair!

"It was fair when the hate machine was coming for other people but it's not fair when it's coming for <falsetto>meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!</falsetto>"

Was it lions that eat faces? No ... no ... Tigers? Hmmm I forget.

this has a distinct aroma of puma

"I'm conservative so I can force everyone else to live by my rules. How dare those other conservatives try to do the same thing to me!"

The stupidity of these people is fucking painful.

Didn't make it very far into the article; I had to stop reading right there. I can't handle this much ignorance and bigotry. What a fucking clown. 🤡

Ask her to describe what any of those mean, and she'll just mumble a bunch of bullshit about how they're performing surgeries in school, how DEI is just about hiring black people, and Critical Race Theory is about NASCAR or something.

I had to stop here:

"This is a dangerous game right-wing culture warriors are playing. If Obergefell falls, it won’t just impact same-sex couples. It will set a precedent that fundamental rights can be granted and taken away by the shifting winds of political power. This should concern every American, regardless of their stance on same-sex marriage."

Fucking bozo bash

We should all know they never stop with "those people" and always pick the next group to attack.

The fact that so many are willing to throw anyone under the bus for a few political points only proves they aren't capable of seeing the very clear pattern that just keeps repeating.

It's not like we haven't all heard some variation of Martin Niemöller's "First They Came" by now but people still keep thinking that if they're just "one of the good ones" they'll be left alone.

You weren't missing much by stopping there. I wish I had. She still doesn't realise that she's been a useful idiot to them all along.

You made the right choice. I kept reading past that part, but eventually had to stop and reevaluate what my time is worth.

So the tldr here is that a lesbian TERF has discovered that once the rights of others that they were fine with being trampled upon had been stripped away, the people they chose to side with suddenly turned on them.

Something something frog and scorpion in a river...

But I will not stand by while LGBT rights are legislated away.

coming right after

I still believe that biological males shouldn’t compete in women’s sports or be housed in women’s prisons.

might sound silly, but they're being truthful. They are not standing by while T rights are legislated away, they actively support it.

Perchance this person would prefer it being LGB instead

"Drop the T" was always going to end up in everyone experiencing homophobia more viscerally.

might need a new sub for "selfAwareWolves" for a post like this.

Anyone who is LGB without the T can suck my LGBTQ+ butthole.

You're not an ally. You're just an asshole.

I've been settled in monogamy for ages now, so I don't know if it's still the case, but I distinctly remember the vibe in the late '90s and early '00s being LG vs BT. Like the "true gays" didn't want us making them look weird in front of the straights. Resulted in stuff like Gold Star Lesbians.

It hasn't gone away. I'm a cis male, pansexual, married to a Trans enby who's also pan. We're poly with relationships outside of our own marriage.

I assure you that LG vs BT still exists. I've had people accuse me of not being honest with my partner (They know both my gfs, and I know both their gf and bf), or that I'm not actually pan because I'm only with "girls" (My partner is AFAB but enby (They/Them, working on getting top surgery), and my gfs are a cis woman and a trans woman (let that part sink in)).

So because we don't fit the standard traditional relationship roles, we're somehow "doing it wrong".

Not gonna sugarcoat it, come collect your award. Dipshit.

Look at all that winning.

He said they'd be sick and tired of winning. I guess he was right.

Get rekt, terf

I opposed childhood gender transitions, unlawful and divisive DEI mandates, and the excesses of Critical Race Theory.

Never get tired of the "This Far And No Further" civil libertarian.

My personal circumstances always demand a socially protected designation. But everyone who isn't me? Idk, they seem extremist and scary.

Today, some of those same attorneys I worked with are advocating for my right to marry my fiancée to be stripped away.

Well, but of course. Because it's "This Far And No Further" for them, too.

If she wasn't gay herself, she'd be against gay people too.

An exert from this sites "about" page

In the liberal West, a clear majority of people support LGBT rights. However, many are turned off by extreme rhetoric that supports authoritarian policy proposals. They are alienated by a vocal minority of radical activists who falsely claim to speak for the LGBT community. In this respect, QM stands up for that silent majority against extremists of all persuasions.

In short: Terfs

I opposed childhood gender transitions, unlawful and divisive DEI mandates, and the excesses of Critical Race Theory.

yeah

The DEI and CRT comments are especially telling. This is a person who allowed herself to believe comforting lies - to accept as fact that a societal scapegoat is the source of her woes. ESPECIALLY the comment about critical race theory, which as I understand was never taught in anything below college courses.

I refuse to believe it's not a psyop by some robot pretending to be a person. I don't want to exist in the world where it's not a psyop, and you can't make me.

None of that shit has anything to do with running a country. That's why you shouldn't have been backing it.

Proof that membership in one out group isn't an indicator of an ally.

Many will say I should have seen this coming — that the right has and always will be against LGBT rights. And maybe there’s some truth to that. But that just wasn’t my experience. I was met with open arms by this messy coalition of ex-Democrats and lifelong Republicans, many of whom still support me and my right to marry. I found a community committed to reason and truth. Perhaps I’m simply realizing that there are fewer of us than I originally thought. The radical right is on the warpath against liberalism, trampling centrists, libertarians, and reasonable ring-wingers in the process. Ultimately, I don’t regret my decision. I worked toward what I believed — and still believe — to be true. I still oppose radical gender ideology and Critical Race Theory in schools. I still believe that biological males shouldn’t compete in women’s sports or be housed in women’s prisons. But I will not stand by while LGBT rights are legislated away.

Read: "The only rights that should be protected are mine."

There must be a path to redemption, but this one ain't on it.

I made sure they came for everyone else but now they're coming for me and it's not fair!

What a fucking dumbass.

Women who fall for conservatism are a special kind of stupid. They hate us, always. Even though we are the default and half the damn population.

Many will say I should have seen this coming — that the right has and always will be against LGBT rights. And maybe there’s some truth to that. But that just wasn’t my experience.

Yeah, no shit dumbass. They were acting nice because they were using you. Divide and conquer, exactly like all those people screaming at you were saying.

If only there was some kind of historical precedent so we could know what would happen immediately afterwards if, say, a prominent gay Nazi helped the Nazis exterminate trans people. Like, maybe if somebody had just appeased them by helping them exterminate one or two small minorities, they'd have mellowed out! Unfortunately, there was just no way to know this would happen. I mean, other than all the people who did predict it, but they clearly just got lucky.

On an unrelated note, I wonder if I could interest her in a nice set of long kitchen knives.

Sucks to suck

They're tokens that will be spent first.

Oh no. You made a deal with the devil and it didn’t work out for you!? Who could have possibly seen that coming!?

Based off the sheer amount of AI slop on that website, I'm not entirely convinced that the author is even a real person.

bell hooks argues that gay men might be more aesthetically sensitive than other people. If this is true, then no gay man was involved in the art direction of Queer Majority because it is low-rent slop all the way down.

The bigot is a very real person. Whether she used slop or not, I’ll let y'all scrutinize.

Her bio picture on the site clearly used some kind of AI 'glow up' feature. That or she has anime/JRPG hair.

EDIT: I realize that this could be read as me trying to disagree with you. I'm not. I'm just pointing out that the AI stuff on that site is ubiquitous to the point that even a real person looks fake. How does any site expect people to take them seriously with all that?

╮(︶▽︶)╭

I can differentiate from investigative 🧵s of discussion and arguments [of my prior opinions].

I aint worried either if she 📸shopped her profile, or if she’s a GAN.

Her bigotry remains.🤷‍♀️

Ah, typical queer white supremacist meet inclusive white supremacy. Hallmarks of a fascist.

this literally reads like the Martin Niemöller poem

Surely the leopards won't eat my face

Republicans: We think Queers should DIE!

Reid Newton: Wow these people SPEAK my Language!

When people marched in NYC after Stonewall, it was the whole community: LGBTQ. Once the police let off, all of the LGB types abandoned the rest of the community and went back to their well-paying jobs. This author is just like one of these unempathetic sorts.

She sounds like a terrible person, friend, and relative. Maybe it's for the best people left her side. Now the leopards can feast in peace. Never comfort a fascist, racist, transphobe, or bigot.

Well, reading that was a waste of my lunch break.

They say stupid shit like this and wonder why we can’t take them seriously.

Many on the cultural right are forgetting something critical: same-sex marriage doesn’t infringe upon anyone else’s rights. A crucial argument against gender ideology was the infringement on women’s rights. But unlike trans edge cases such as women’s sports or prisons, marriage isn’t a zero-sum issue. There isn’t a finite number of spots on the “marriage team.” My getting married takes nothing away from straight couples.

It's too bad they're both too incurious to think for themselves and so media-illiterate that they haven't read The Handmaid's Tale... Obviously lesbian couples can be broken up and forced into miserable straight marriages and this is precisely what the right would want to do! (It's even part of the American past that MAGA wants to return to!)

Total POS. There do exist certain white queers who like waving the rainbow flag and yet exclude nonwhites from their happenings.

Andrea Dworkin is spinning in her grave. There's something extra tragic about adopting the token persona for someone at the intersectionality of two identities that the right hates.

the problem with tokens is that sooner or later they get spent.

If you manage to travel back in time, don't invest in bitcoin, invest in fell for it again awards.

Separate marriage and state. The government should treat everyone the same whether they are single or married, gay or straight, or anywhere in between.

State marriage, if available at all, needs to be available to any couple. Religious marriage doesn't. If I am a priest who wants to marry only straight people, only gay people, only groups of 3 or more, that should be fine and protected.

But if the government wants to be in the business of establishing legal protection for family groups, it cannot be allowed to discriminate. Absolutely agree. It is not discrimination to disallow discrimination, no matter how they try to spin it.

I would be fine with your idea, no more "legal marriage" just religious and no option to register it with the state.

It was an interesting read.

By the way, the paragraph you quoted is oddly cut. The whole paragraph reads:

When the “woke” mania swept the country in 2020, I took a step back and reevaluated where I stood and why I stood there. To my surprise, I found that I agreed with conservatives and libertarians on a number of issues. I opposed childhood gender transitions, unlawful and divisive DEI mandates, and the excesses of Critical Race Theory. I argued against biological males competing in women’s sports and being housed in women’s prisons. I did so loudly and publicly, losing many friends along the way. My stance wasn’t rooted in hate or fear but in a commitment to reason and fairness. My loyalty was to the truth, not to political tribes. Maintaining my integrity cost me greatly, but I believed it was worth it.

Later on she says:

The conservative movement has a choice to make: will they stay true to their promises of liberty and limited government, or will they use the levers of power to impose their preferred moral order? I joined forces with them because I believed in the former. I fear they are choosing the latter.

which highlights are key internal division in republicans: small government (i.e. being consistently liberal) or imposing one's own moral order?

The article seems to imply that some people vote republican because they think it's a vote for liberalism, ironically.

That's the raw problem: they don't question what “small government” means, all the while she praxied big government praxis:

  1. I opposed childhood gender transitions, 2) unlawful and 3) divisive DEI mandates, and the 4) excesses of Critical Race Theory. I argued 5) against biological males competing in women’s sports and being 6) housed in women’s prisons. 7) I did so loudly and 8) publicly

She‘s incapable of retrospecting she is in favor of big government over-reaches because she wants those rulings against others, not herself. “Law for thee, not me”

Caitlyn Jenner on line 2, chief.

And a vent about all of those who have "seen the light", not this guy, this woman is a straight up continuing unrepentant moron, but others.

These narcissistic morons wants all of us to simply forgive and welcome them back into the fold without judgment, feel sorry for them, and provide them the support they "need" because they fucked themselves over with their stupidity and selfishness.

No, your actions had massive consequences for the rest of us, you don't get judgment free forgiveness and unconditional support for your journey of getting your own head out of your ass.

You want that, take a picture of your ballot and post it online to prove that you actually learned your god damn lesson and don't vote stupid in the next and every election because your words are meaningless when your lack of intelligence to figure out the obvious.

Except don't actually do that, because posting a picture of your ballot invalidates it.

Alice Weidel is shocked the fascist Höcke, being friends with nazis, doesnt like her and wants to get her "out of the way"

Absolute textbook LAMF. Always entertaining to see one in the wild.

The leopards are equal opportunity face munchers.

Any member of an oppressed group that rejects intersectionality is just a chauvinist.

womp womp.

Just because a few points match, the majority of political points were against non-white, non-straight, non-cis people from the word go. Voting for the Rep-Nazis if you belong or even just know people in this groups makes absolutely no sense.

They spent their token for all it's worth.

Oof, yeah.

I understand why some people voted for Donald, but definitely not queer people. Donald was great for militant, nationalistic Christianity... and militant nationalistic Christianity hates the gays.

Protip: this type of Sturmabteilung has a major moderating influence in threadiverse.

Well fancy that.

So the issue is having two leopards. We live in a zoo.

Look at all of these problems for decades, all because we decided that GOVERNMENT should have any say in who we do or do not marry.

Government shouldn't have any say or opinion, marriage (or any other relationship) is not their business.

I wonder how many billions of dollars have been spent on this absurdity? How many tens of thousands of hours were thrown away protesting, legalizing, enforcement? All stupid and rather silly if you think about it.

She's an awful libertarian, well most of them are, but very hypocritical on her part.

If you think identifying with marginalized groups grants you knowledge, you're going to be a traitor to those groups. Queerness exists in a significantly different cultural and social context from twenty (even ten) years ago, and many privileged queer people have never had to feel the full force of oppression that this system wields. I cannot emphasize how many white, middle-class queer traitors I have met who believe that being queer has granted them some sort of moral clarity despite their subscription to the maintenance of a system that oppresses them because it has afforded them toys and comfort.

seems like a ragebait propaganda piece used to divide us further, its those evil queers who caused Donald Trump to win the election.
