CEO Mahesh Sadarangani said that Philz “was working toward creating a more consistent, inclusive experience across all our stores, including removing a variety of flags and other decor.”
In other statements, Sadarangani stated that Philz would provide better value by using smaller cups, and become more environmentally friendly by replacing coffee beans with shredded recycled cardboard.
It’s a symptom of the chilling effect. I was going to Philz in the early 2010s and the stores were gay as hell.
Target has gone down the drain recently, but I don’t know how much is attributed consumer backlash vs tariff pricing.
I didn't Google the CEO but he sounds like a wealthy MAGA goon. Maybe he is focusing on opening new stores in intolerant neighborhoods?
Here's a tip about cafes: The non-chain, locally owned ones are the best
It's just a shame to see another locally grown success turn into generic corporate pablum, even MAGA collaborators, after being bought out by Wall Street.
