Gun Manufacturers Won the Ultimate Legal Shield. Big Oil Wants That, Too.
2mon 5d ago by lemmy.zip/u/Valuy in law from www.nytimes.comJust gotta point out that PLCA was passed because people were explicitly trying to eliminate a constitutional right by suing gun manufacturers out of existence, because the product was being used in an illegal manner.
In contrast, oil companies are, first, not explicitly a constitutional right, and second, when their product is used for it's intended purpose, it is harmful. A firearm can be used in a manner that doesn't cause any illegal harm (e.g., community defense, self defense, hunting, etc.), but there is no use of gasoline or diesel that is not harmful to everyone.
