The fruit store has the decryption key to your data. It's just security theater. Stop storing sensitive data on the cloud if you dont encrypt it yourself.
Unfortunately, they have excellent marketing and even techies fall for their lies.
Interesting to note that the article doesn’t mention if Advanced Data Protection was enabled or not. Of course we have no way of checking if what they say is true or not since nothing’s open source, but I’d have more faith in their system with end to end encryption
End to end encryption in a system they entire control is worthless. They even allow retrieving your data through a friend or with a recovery key. My, how convenient! Would be quite help if your recovery key were generated in, well dont you know it, their system. Aw shucks.

There would be quite a shitstorm if this was on by default.
Sending me marketing material from the fruit store just proves my point about their good marketing. You don't seriously believe you data is safe with them do you? They own the entire chain, from the entry of your password, to the storage of your data, and they can email you a recovery password or let a friend help you with recovering your data? Come on...
The fruit store…
