PPA will start issuing tickets Monday to drivers caught on camera speeding in Philadelphia school zones

I wonder if they'll ticket the school buses that speed through the school zones.

"In a city where 4 children are hit by a driver while walking each week, we must make bold moves to bolster traffic safety on dangerous roads around our school buildings,"

Sounds like some sort of enforcement is long overdue. I usually come down against speed enforcement cameras, but since I don't speed, I don't really have a dog in the fight. In this case, though I'm in favor of the cameras, but think they should also increase police presence at the worst intersections. I should think stopping kids getting hit by cars would be a top priority for any community.

Better infrastructure that separates walking paths from roads would help, but would be far more expensive than cameras. Yet, again, kids are getting hit by cars, so where are the communities priorities?

But, beyond that, there's something else that could be done. Remember how well the shaming of leaving grocery carts in parking lots worked? And, it did work pretty well, if not perfectly. That could happen, too.

Raised saftey platforms at intersections and raised crossing platforms. do wonders for forcing cars to slow down and pay attention. cheaper than paying for police officers too.

I wonder if they’ll ticket the school buses that speed through the school zones.

Thanks, I really needed a good laugh today.
