Aw yeah the tourney starting soon! I don't watch the Chris Sumo videos, but I look at the headlines and sometimes skim the transcripts - looks like Aonishiki's dealing with an injury, but he and Onosato (and even Midorifuji) are planning to compete.
On the subject of Midorifuji:
Midorifuji comfortably qualifies for elder stock in case he needs it
Good for him!
Tsurugisho retired
Enho returns to Juryo, just barely in at J14W, and that qualifies him for elder stock!
Aonishiki's broken toe really needs more time to heal, but he's on kadoban and needs a winning record this tournament to keep Ozeki.
He probably shouldn't have fought all 15 matches last time, but there was the Y run on the line. An unfortunate coincidence...
Onosato should take advantage of his Y privilege and take some time out to heal up.
Oh geez that's not good. Yeah there are really three unknowns that Aonishiki has to overcome:
- physical injuries
- other wrestlers coming up with "counter" strategies
- himself losing hope and confidence
I just hope he doesn't wreck himself and end up in Juryo like Takerufuji, or worse. Aonishiki doesn't need to be Yokozuna, he can be another Ura.
