Does anyone know the notes of these sticks? Its not like Frankincense resin

1mon 11d ago by lemmy.world/u/cAUzapNEAGLb in incense@lemmy.ml from nipponkodostore.com

Im still pretty new to the incense world, but ive been using these sticks (Herb & Earth #7 Frankincense Bamboo Incense) for a long time and theyre my favorite - a bit ago i got a resin burner and real frankincense resin because i love these sticks so much and wanted to know more about its notes - but they do not smell the same at all (frankincense resin is still awesome, but not the smell/note i seek to recreate)

If anyome is familiar with these sticks and have ideas on what its notes are, id love to explore that more, i dont yet have the nose to really describe what makes these sticks so good for me yet.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried these sticks in particular, but I can tell you that frankincense oil (which is what they're using if the claim on the packaging is true) is often very different from the resin. There are some higher end sticks also (Tennendo's Frankincense and Yamadamatsu's Hyofu) that are close, but don't quite nail the fragrance of actual frankincense resin.

There are also a ton of different types of frankincense: different species, grades, gum content, et cetera. You might want to try a sampler to see if one varietal or another is closer to the sticks you like. Try crushing them and gently heating them.

The stick will also probably have some fragrance contributed by whatever base wood they are using.

Thanks, ill try some more frankincense, the resins i have are like light silk sheets and fruity - but the scent from the incense sticks are heavy like a winter comforter and dark unlike any food/herb scent im familiar with

Interesting. I might have to try them to see for myself.

I do recomend it - if you do get it, please let me know what you smell!
