Fuck brave browser, all my homies hate brave browser

Anti-Chromium gang

How tables have turned. I went from FF to Chrome somewhere around 2009 just to move back in 2024. Fuck chromium.

Coward gang

(Jfc does anyone recognize word play or smth)

Im genuinely curious if you can explain your position further? How is avoiding it cowardice?

Avoiding Brave browser makes you part of a coward gang

Coward = very not Brave

A real man embraces vulnerabilities.

Love the word play. The logic is shakey lol

Evil brave

My company’s ERP software doesn’t work well on Firefox unfortunately. So brave is the next best option for me. Other chromium based browsers only work with UBO Lite which is very limiting for the amount of filters I have imported. So for work I use Brave and for personal I use FF with betterfox user.js.

It's cool that you get to do erotic role play professionally.

That's what people think of these days? Grrmbl.

Reminds me of some old, old, old tech humour bit where some biz manager ended up in fistfight with the head of IT support because both thought they were in charge of "ERP" and the biz bro felt the IT nerd was overstepping his boundaries. It ended with an email from the CEO that clarified a few acronyms: "ERP = Enterprise Resource Planning. ERP = Emergency Response Plan. Hopefully this clears things up."

It's funny that CNC can either be one of these industrials machines I don't know much about, or Consented NonConsent

It's what I think of as someone who writes collaboratively as a hobby. I can't speak for everyone lmao. All I know is that I chuckle whenever I see the acronym in the wild.

Try helium

thank you for sharing this non-existent content

Out where?

Out of the environment of course.

I’ve used Firefox based browsers for as long as I can remember and I’d rather slam my dick in a car door than switch to garbage like brave. Every single one of those browsers is the same bloated Google-flavoured bullshit wearing a different fucking clown costume. Firefox is the only browser that doesn’t make me feel like I’m being rawdogged by corporate spyware every time I open a tab.. Piss on carpet !!

i thlammed my penith in the car door

Every single one of those browsers is the same bloated Google-flavoured bullshit wearing a different fucking clown costume

Brave is even worse as they've been caught doing shady shit without permission on more than one occasion.

I thlammed my penith in the car door!

This broke the car door!

Do you know why we stopped the car? 🎵

Cause it smelled like dick.

I only use palemoon because it uses the best version of Firefox.

Yeah, I don't do web stuff, but I use the browser every day for all the microsoft stuff my employer uses and it's 99% LibreWolf and then 1% switching to Firefox ESR that cane preinstalled on debian.

If something didn't work at that point, I'd probably fire up my Windows VM I use for testing before I'd install even chromium. I've installed it before but there's just no need now.

I love using Brave browser… swipes away crypto ad banner …because there is a massive focus… swipes away crypto ad banner …on privacy….

Privacy against big tech but brave is just an indie operation please give them your data 🥺

I don't understand. Why does Brave not exist? Is it because the developer is a chud? Fair enough. Is it because it's Chrome? If so, does that apply to Vivaldi?

Can somebody explain something stupid to me? What exactly is wrong with Chromium? Does Google have backdoor access to anyone who's running a Chromium based program or something?

They abuse the fuck out of their monopoly, basically.

They made changes to limit the usefulness of adblockers (Manifest V3), they tried to force a remote attestation API (WEI API) a few years back that would let them do stuff like fully block users who aren’t running locked-down operating systems from using online banking software or accessing Youtube, they added many chrome-specific web APIs that are extremely helpful for fingerprinting and lock users into the chrome ecosystem, etc.

And if you’re running stock chromium, there’s a fuckton of telemetry calling home to Google servers constantly.

And browser is such a complex piece of software that you cannot just fork it easily and change those things within a weekend with a bunch of unpaid volunteers.

So basicaly everything that made it through the android-google ecosystem also made it through chromium, is my take

They made changes to limit the usefulness of adblockers (Manifest V3)

Unless you're using Brave :)

You can’t. It doesn’t exist.

Lol actually

As a web dev I hate the trend of websites relying on chromium-specific quirks, there are a handful of sites I need to use which refuse to work in any non-chromium browser, and customer support will always tell you to just use chrome as if you're not a normal person for using Firefox. So yeah what's wrong with chromium to me is that it's the new internet explorer when it comes to web standards. Websites and large businesses can afford to just not care if they are following web standards as long as it works in chrome, and if you have a problem it's your fault for not using chrome.

Yeah, we're back to the days of websites only supporting Internet Explorer because of proprietary features and weird quirks.

That's valid too. Thanks for pointing that out

Someone at work made a "who on earth uses FireFox" comment recently, like it was some obscure and inferior / outdated software (our company includes FF as part of the standard image for both PC and Mac users). I did not go into my "why chromium is evil" rant, but I did tell them how to adjust their settings to fix some performance issues they were having with it. I'm pretty sure they still switched to Chrome.

This is why I switched from LibreWolf. If I had to have a Chromium browser installed as a backup anyway for few important sites, I might as well use Chromium. Imo Chromium has won. It owns the web landscape. I've given up

In technology, victory is fleeting.

Why don't you at least use Ungoogled Chromium, Cromite, or Helium Browser? At least they prioritize security and privacy equally while not being tied to Ghoulgle.

Do you have an issue with desktop Cromite where the browser just straight up freezes except for maybe the menu button? I'd chalk up to being a Debian Linux weirdo, but my work-provided Windows 11 laptop also has this particular issue in the flesh. I switched back to Ungoogled Chromium because of it, and also cause I want uBlock Origin and no less.

At least Cromite Android has extensions.

Their adblocks don't work mainly

Only Brave still works on YouTube

Is this because of the whole Manifest V3 thing that prevents uBlock Origin from being installed?

Yes. Other chromiums either have their own (but still subpar) adblock or they can only use the nerfed version uBlock. Brave rolls their own adblock and it actually works well

I use LibreWolf, and I do have issues with a few sites (my local utility company's bill pay only works on chromium), but I still refuse to use a chromium based browser except for those specific sites.

It is inconvenient, but it can still make a difference. If sites that have chromium only functionality see that enough FireFox users are trying to use the site, they may update it. I know web devs check those kinds of metrics.

What exactly is wrong with Chromium?

It gives Google hegemony over web standards.

Yes but Brave is Chromium with functioning AdBlock

which you can get on any Chromium based browser, brave is nothing special in that regard. you can have functioning adblock with Vivaldi also.

No Vivaldi's and the others' don't work for YouTube

yes it does. i'm using it right now.

I tried it. No it doesn't. Quit lying just bc you don't like Brave

calm down. it does work, would you like me to record a video if it working? hm? oh boy I just did! http://andmc.ca/mov/noads.mp4

Just because YOU don't know how to work something as simple as an ad blocker on vivaldi doesn't mean it dosn't work.

Grow up you child.

@KindaABigDyl with crypto bs added and no control for ublock or making extensions that modify the website for your needs.

I don't use the crypto. You can just disable the wallet when you set up the appearance.

Yeah but it's the best chromium skin!

Chromium with crypto, spy and adware injected into it and its development led by an alt-right manchild? Hard disagree. Even the default Ungoogled Chromium easily tops Brave.

Cromite and Helium also top Brave.

It does not exist because it does not exist.

Hope that helps.

most importantly, a vegan artist?

Firefox still exists, right?

Not for much longer, anyway:

https://data.firefox.com/dashboard/user-activity

And it sucks.

And it sucks.

Sounds like just the perfect match for you!

Keep licking Mozilla's boot.

I have tried all the browsers that you can imagine and I stay with Firefox, it had catch me

Pale Moon.

Why do you prefer it?

Funhole containment breach. Outbreak Outbreak Outbreak

thank you for making visual content on the trail.

Get back to your wheel, lazy peasant!

Firefox or GTFO.

Mumble mumble HURD mumble GEGL

They recently used AI to translate a lot of code to Rust. Thought it sounded like a neat project right until then.

Aah, I was not aware of that.

Switched to LibreWolf a few weeks ago because of AI.

What's the deal with Brave? Why are people against it?

Aside from the homophobia, Brave also runs an ad network so I’m skeptical about their privacy claims.

Brave was found altering links to some crypto services like Binance to include their referral and basically profit from unknowing users, they also run an ad network, they rely on Chromium, thereby endorsing Google's dominance over the modern Web, they are very crypto-positive, which is a problem for many in the open-source community, and on top of that, everything else others have said.

Vigilink is the vendor they use to do this iirc. Link hijacking for referral revenue is wild thing to base a business on, but I’ve seen more sketch things running around the ad tech industry.

Brendan Eich. Specifically his stance against same sex marriage. He was pressured to resign from Mozilla, which he cofounded, due to his support of California's prop 8. Then he founded Brave. The Brave browser also has some annoying crypto and AI features turned on by default. I think it's a perfectly fine piece of software. I use it as a second browser.

It's impossible to be good at programming and morality at the same time.

That's why I never tried with either.

A whole ton of femboys with knee socks, running Arch, might beg to differ

Their very shady history + their very bigoted owner + current shady tactics

Edit: and on top of that it's Chromium based

I don't want to use a web browser maintained by the guy responsible for our JavaScript hell

They do a ton of sketchy shit. I was skeptical, but this article convinced me.

If you need to use a Chromium browser, there are a shit-ton that aren't Brave. I use Ungoogled Chromium.

The guy who made it has bad beliefs. It's good software from what I can tell, and free as in speech and free as in beer, but if you use it you get his bad bigot cooties. You have to use free software by certified free range organic non-bigots or it rubs off on you I guess.

Never mind his politics, that asshole designed JavaScript!

😂

Okay that gave me a good chuckle. But really with FOSS software it's important to be aware of biases the developers might have. Sure if it's an open source project, in theory I can audit the code but realistically not so much. If the lead developer is a known bad actor, then there's reason to be paranoid about vulnerabilities or backdoors being injected into the codebase.

Well there's no code he can insert that will invalidate anyone's marriage. And his philosophy on tech and privacy is good. I probably wouldn't invite him to brunch, but I'm okay with his code.

What happened with /c/unix_surrealism?

Why wouldn't they leave a donation link on that page :<

https://sdf.org/support/

I bet they don't even have MBAs! How do they expect to optimize their revenue funnel and drive quarterly growth‽

Hosting instance ran out of disk space, collecting donations to resume operations.

Did she eat brave?

Librewolf, iceraven and vivaldi

...yes, I whispered and vivaldi

not Vivaldi

Why not?

i personally love vivaldi but i’m gonna guess they are telling you to avoid it because it’s not open source. also chromium

im just gonna link this image the next time some uninformed dork asks me about this shit browser

Us when we’re messy with our spaghetti dinner

I hope we can get a recipe, that sauce looks yummy

The only browser on my os is mothra all others don't exist.

Zen Browser kicks ass.

I don't trust it.

Care to say why?

I don't know the details fully but isn't it like one Dev just patching Firefox? The whole Zen mod store seemed like an obvious vector for bad actors to me. What if he's on vacation when a patch drops for a zero day?

Browser is one of the most important and critical aspects of your system that houses a massive amount of critical data...

I'm curious why, as a zen user myself. What would you suggest as an alternative?

Firefox

Appeared too quickly, with too much promise and not enough community time

So I should remove brave?

Wow I never really liked Brave, felt way too bloated, but this gives me reasons not to suggest it anymore.

Lol the hate I get for posting a Wikipedia link

Guess y'all can't handle some truth

Heh coo.

Any idea if SDF is coming back? Loved that lemmy instance and the community around it.

Dang...

Hope they come back soon. ;(

brave!?, that's some kind of food?

So my options for iOS seem to be Libre Wolf Firefox Duck duck go

🤔

Kinda true. On iOS all browsers have to use the safari core as browser engine, but you still get the Firefox layer on top, most importantly account sync.
Like if I’m on the toilet, see an article I wanna read on lemmy, but it has too many ads, I just send the tab to my PC and read it later. Also bookmark syncing comes in very handy for me.

You can install uBlock Origin Lite on Safari.

Let me introduce you to.. Reynard! It is a gecko based web browser, it's goal is to make browsers much more usable in older iOS although you still have to sideload it!

As farest as I know this is the first ever browser to use different web engine for iOS, it is insanely cool on-going project!

https://github.com/byeCl0ud/reynard-browser-compiled

(Accidentally deleted my previous comment haha)

Orion Browser seems nice as it supports FireFox and Chrome Extensions

Is this an ad

I only drink off brands.

I only drink off my hangovers

it's the opposite

I have brave on Ios and if I'm correct it's just using Apple's safari webkit anyways. It's been a few years since I compared browsers but back then it was the least shit, including firefox and firefox private.

is this the one that requires you to log in? i tried one that looks just like that and i loved the design but forced sign-in is a deal breaker for me. how private can it be if it demands to know who i am?

Ironfox is pretty good on Android

I only use Brave because some websites got my digital fingerprint with firefox lol

I only use Brave to hook into personally hosted shit through tailscale. Kinda nice having a separate phone app that's just used to keep those addresses pulled up and separate from actual internet browsing.

Internet browser ❎ Intranet browser ✅

I've been using Vanadium, the browser that came with GrapheneOS, recommendations?

I use ironfox with ublock origin, works nicely.

Ditto, good as it gets

Brave on GrapheneOS works great. Worth a download.

There is no dog park.

knave browser

I use WebLibre (Gecko) with Brave Search

the only Chromium browser i use is CEF/Electron

Love the background writing.

Btw have you ever been to electric ladyland?

Helium is my current choice.

Brave is the tits. Apparently, I'm guessing non existent tits? Whatever. I never see an ad.

Brave was made by a former Mozilla employee who got fired for being a massive asshole. He still is a massive asshole and as a longtime Firefox and now Librewolf user, I don't see any ads either.

Do they still hijack your URL bar to inject their own referral codes without your permission?

Talk about killer features 🙄

Can Brave Browser exist on Android though? That's the only time I use Brave, lol

Don't though.

I would love to use Firefox or IronFox on Android instead. However, it's super insecure, so much so that even PG doesn't recommend it. Not only that, they also run like shit, especially when used with a VPN. If it wasn't for extension support, it would sadly just be inferior to chromium based browsers in every way, even for privacy. Firefox is the way to go on Linux, but on Android, wouldn't recommend. Anyway, not that it's going to matter much, if Google truly does start blocking use of GrapheneOS and lock down Android, then I'll probably be switching to Droidian or Ubuntu Touch soon anyway

However, it’s super insecure, so much so that even PG doesn’t recommend it

That's some sad nonsense. Their "criteria" is some non-specific shit indistinguishable from slop generated from a butt.

Tor Browser is the only way to truly browse the internet anonymously.

Oh fuck the fuck right off with this, hackerman.

Firefox runs better and performs better than any bloated chrome-with-crypto-ads would even wishes to run. And unless we count "has inbuilt plugin for Tor" as a security feature, and we will be insane to do that, there is no reason to suspect it's somehow worse than chrome-but-our-ceo-simps-for-trump.

I don't even use Brave's Tor feature. Also, I don't like Brave's bloat but tbf, you can completely disable them all in the settings which is what I did. Btw, you don't think that Google's CEO simps for Trump? I hate the politics of Brave's CEO, but not like big tech's agenda is any better and Mozilla is subservient to Google whether they like it or not. Not to mention their constant pushing for adding AI features onto the vanilla browser.

I might try Cromite, but I'm hesitant to use web browsers maintained by one or two people since browsers constantly have security exploits that need patched quickly, something that a couple people can't maintain on their own. If anything, I would use Vanadium if I had GrapheneOS but I'm stuck to LineageOS right now, lol

I don’t even use Brave’s Tor feature.

And yet you linked a page, that you apparently didn't read, that says that you can only get privacy by using tor, and Brave(tm)(c) (not sponsored by the way) is beez knees because it has Tor inbuilt.

"Tor Browser is the only way to truly browse the internet anonymously. When you use Brave, we recommend changing the following settings to protect your privacy from certain parties, but all browsers other than the Tor Browser will be traceable by somebody in some regard or another."

What it is saying here is to use the real Tor Browser, not Brave's. Even Brave developers themselves says to not use their tor feature as a replacement for Tor. You shouldn't use Tor for everything either since the only way to truly get the benefits of Tor is to use it via a virtual machine (whonix is recommended on that front). PG also says the same thing on the desktop recommendations

"If you need to browse the internet anonymously, you should use Tor instead. We make some configuration recommendations on this page, but all browsers other than Tor Browser will be traceable by somebody in some manner or another."

So, if you need PERFECT privacy, Tor is your only bet, which is just a fact at this point. However, using Tor for everything is just not feasible since many clearnet sites block Tor. That doesn't mean you throw out privacy though, it just means it's going to be possible but very hard for law enforcement or surveillance capitalism to trace you.

Software doesn't exist silly, it's imaginary, like numbers.

But browsers are double fake.

Commenting this from Brave
