Tesla recalls Cybertrucks due to risk of wheels falling off

1mon 5d ago by feddit.uk/u/Wudi in cars from www.the-independent.com

Tesla has been forced to recall all rear-wheel-drive Cybertrucks sold over the last two years due to the risk of wheels falling off.

...

Poor Cybertruck sales mean that only 173 of the stainless steel pickup trucks will actually need to be recalled.

In normal companies, and CEO who insisted on bringing the biggest lemon in history to market, would get fired.

GM CEO - "Hold my beer!"

This isn't true. Nearly every auto manufacturer has safety recalls. All the time. And that's a good thing, because it means the manufacturer has actually found a problem usually before it effects every vehicle they recall, and can correct the problem safely. It keeps people safe when mistakes happen, because mistakes WILL happen.

I don't like Tesla any more than the next person, probably for different reasons, but what's described here doesn't appear to be any different from any of the other myriad of other safety recalls that happen all the time, except that the manufacturer has negative publicity meaning articles can farm clicks and ad revenue.

Actually, every word is true.

Most people automatically recognize that the implied subordinate clause is

Yet one more reason that (the cybertruck is the biggest lemon in history)

And not

Wow a recall, which leaves me no choice but to declare that (the cybertruck is the biggest lemon in history)

But if you really wanted to distill the message down to it's essence, it is that Elon Musk is a thundercunt.

No, I mean a CEO does not get fired because one of their vehicles has a recall on it, or even a lot of recalls on the same vehicle.

Ford, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Mercedes, even Toyota have all had safety recalls on their vehicles over the years. One or more at some point have likely been directly related to a direct order from the CEO. Some of the safety recalls have been even more serious than wheels falling off, such as issues that caused the vehicle to catch fire, or to be disabled while driving.

So far as I can see, a CEO was never fired for a safety recalls on one of their vehciles. Ever.

It is not true that Elon Musk "would have been fired for this if Tesla was a normal company." Regardless of opinions on the person, the safety recalls would never result in his firing.

No, you're either suffering from main character syndrome, or inserting the most obtuse defense against punting Musk that I've ever seen.

But go on, see if you can use Well ekshually-style condescension to sway me from the premise that Elon Musk is a fucking idiot, and that if Tesla was a normal company, he'd be punted.

I thought they were just going to tow them out of the environment.

Into another environment?

No. Outside the environment.

finally! Been waiting for the wheels coming off tesla.

It’s like a ’90s Hyundai

Are there any car models by any manufacturer in the last 10 years that haven't had a safety recall ?

It's not usually for the wheels falling off.

I believe RAM trucks had a recall a few years back for tie rod ends that would snap off, which if it happened at highway speed could easily send the wheels flying off the vehicle and into the air if it didn't instantly flip the whole vehicle or send it into a nearby hard obstacle.

There are plenty of other manufacturers that have recalls on wheel assembles, and on lug nut issues. In this case the Tesla engineers actually discovered the strain issue in preproduction but due to a management fault, the ECO was never applied. Once this was discovered in an audit, Tesla did the recall; they'll just replace a part. No accidents or even direct damage was identified from this issue. What you're seeing is just Tesla hate in the media and magnified by social media. Which I get. Elon is a dick and I wouldn't buy another while he's at the helm. But their engineering is pretty good.

But the wheels did fall off
