Sing This Corrotion to me...

If you ever wondered why The Sisters of Mercy’s "This Corrosion" (1987) sounds so absurdly bombastic, it’s because it was a targeted strike against The Mission UK.

The Backstory: After a messy split in 1985, Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams left the Sisters to form their own band. Andrew Eldritch, fueled by spite and a legal battle over the name "The Sisterhood," decided to out-produce them at their own game.

The "Satire": Eldritch hired Jim Steinman (Meat Loaf’s producer) to create a track so over-the-top it bordered on parody. With a 40-piece choir and a massive budget, he wanted to show he could do "The Mission style" better and louder than they ever could.

The Lyrics: Eldritch admitted the lyrics are a collection of meaningless, "deep-sounding" clichés designed to mock Wayne Hussey’s songwriting style. The Result: It became a Top 10 hit and a goth anthem, proving that sometimes the best art comes from pure, unadulterated pettiness.

TL;DR: This corrotion is a song against Wayne Hussey and The Mission UK.

Throught the years, i thought it was an urban legend but i found many times this version. So, next time you listen to this track at the club you should remember that this classic is a mock to The Mission UK.

Or, alternatively, Hussey successfully trolled him into transforming himself into the Goth Meatloaf

Well it's just a curious story behind a classic. I don't take a side because i like both bands a lot.

Yep. I'm more into sisters but Wayne and mission are great. As is the other sisters spinn off.

Recently allnewtypeface@leminal.space called it "Gothloaf" which I didn't understand at first til I read the wikipedia page. Thing is, I'm not really familiar with "Meat Loaf" tho I'm sure I've heard some of their songs playing at the grocery store or something... I'm kinda picturing a Sam Kinison-looking guy and music that sounds like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", which sounds kinda cool tbh but I don't look it up bc I'll probably be disappointed, right?

From watching a lot of bmoviebonanza@lemmy.world I've learned that you can start out trying to make parody or pastiche and have it turn out really well. If you have a lot of talent, you just can't stop yourself from doing a good job.
