So this is Rimu’s personal hitlist of people who wronged him, such as the old admin of lemy.lol who argued with him months ago over their Pepe logo. He’s abusing the modlog to claim these users are harassing him.

I love the part where Rimu lies and say no one reached out to him to talk. Yet there are screenshots of admins saying I’m here to talk if you would like and he ignores and bans them.

Truly the most childish of all Threadiverse devs, and someone who clearly should not be in a position of power.

Well, at this point, the piefed idea is in the mud for me. The point of federation is exactly not giving people too much power. Just move on from him and let's do better.

The link was not opening for me. But this one opens: https://quokk.au/c/yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com/p/904933/rimu-mass-bans-users

I try to separate the program from the programmer, PieFed is still good even if piefed.social is not

Lemmy is still good even if lemmy.ml is not

I would, at this point, trust more on a fork of piefed than upstream, given all the drama with hardcoded filters and Rimu being unable to act as a federated project maintainer.

just avoid the tankie triads, or thier tankie communities.

I mean it's not like Lemmy devs are any better.

Why is it so hard for fediverse devs to just be chill? I don't get it.

Chill people don't program social media software from scratch, is my guess. Chill people grill in their backyards instead.

Ehh.... this very thread kind of points to the lemmy devs not being anywhere near the level rimu seems to be at. As well as the other thread.

Lemmy devs are definetely better because they dont bake their opinions into codebase unlike piefed do.

Like what is the point of the fediverse if single person has a grip on significant part of the users and exerts their power like spez.

I dunno, I had a few slap fights with dessalines, but no bans. So, even that tiny margin is different at least

First I've heard of that. He bans everyone for anything he disagrees with from what I've seen.

Well, I am charming as fuck lol. Maybe.

Bad joke aside, from what I've seen it's more about how they disagree more than the fact of. Don't get me wrong, there's a fundamental personality issue going on there, and he can be difficult. I just haven't seen much in the way of arbitrary bans just for holding different beliefs. There is a lower threshold for, shall we say, aggressive disagreements though.

Mind you, I don't haunt the mod logs and track down every occurrence. Just taking a general sense of things over the years.

it's almost as if humans are petty power-hungry little bastards.

They are devs, which is different from mods. No need for the same person to do both roles. I'd even say that admins and mods should be separate.

Yeah that would be an improvement for sure.

I made the list! Wow, this is the first time I've been involved in the drama 🥰

The more read about these bans stuff on Lemmy, the more I just see the similarities between Reddit and Lemmy lol.

  • Random bans because you said something that disagrees with the moderator.
  • Fake modlog to ban users.
  • More hostility these days.
  • People argue just to.. argue. Not to have a genuine debate.

Eventually every social media platform becomes the same kind of environment. Unfortunately.

Eventually every social media platform becomes the same kind of environment. Unfortunately.

Reddit was a step backwards from slashdot style moderation, really seams like everywhere is either fully public meaningless up votes or fully algorithmic personalized prioritization and nobody is even interested in figuring out how to so comment ranking that scales up to a large userbase.

People argue just to.. argue. Not to have a genuine debate.

Some like to be contrarians, and I wonder if it's cause of ulterior motives.

The big difference here is that Rimu banning these users has a small impact on them. They can't participate on or interact with piefed.social, but that's only a small part of the whole ecosystem.

Well why would lemmy and reddit be any different? Same format, same people - just on a smaller scale. But it makes any drama more visible.

Well, when the first migration to Lemmy happened (when Apollo got shut down because of Spez and such), Lemmy was quite friendly and welcoming. Debates and discussions weren't as heated, and people debated with a genuine interest in the topic. People claimed Lemmy was better than Reddit, and I remember mentioning that it would change, and a few months later, it did, and I mentioned that too and got heavily downvoted. But behold now; different platform but the same kind of toxic environment.

Though there are still some people who claim Lemmy is better than Reddit, because they don't like Reddit and/or got banned from Reddit.

I mean, being better than Reddit is a low bar these days

By the way, did you look at @dessalines@lemmy.ml modlog?

I have now, and I see little of note. Why do you bring it up?

Edit to add: I wouldn’t bring up others’ modlogs if I were you, because they may then take a look at yours.

Since everyone's favorite PTB, flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com banned me with the vague reason "report spam", and then insta-blocked me when I DM'd them for clarification, I'll pick this up in the x-post.

So there isn’t anything else.

There is, and to prove good-faith, I need your consent to proceed in my demonstration under the assumption that you agree with the broad claim above. If you dodge again, I'll assume you disagree with it, and we can move forward under that assumption instead.

Sound good?

Edit: Looks like you weren't being good-faith afterall. What a shock...

the vague reason "report spam",

I mean, that's a simple reason, not a vague one.

Were you on Hard Light Productions back in the day, by the way?

I mean, that’s a simple reason, not a vague one.

It's extremely vague. What makes a report spam? Can you show it to me in the rules anywhere?

Were you on Hard Light Productions back in the day, by the way?

No idea what that is, so I doubt it.

What makes a report spam?

Typically when singular goes plural.

So reporting 2 rule-breaking comments is spam?

So reporting 2 rule-breaking comments is spam?

I dunno. Usually depends on the reports and how deeply they participated into a 50+ comment chain of 'no u, sweetie's for them.

Sounds pretty vague and open-to-interpretation.

This isn't about lemmy buddy

I have not even interacted with Rimu in any way for days prior to getting kicked from the PieFed developer Matrix channels.

Is this a continuation of this? :

https://lemmy.world/post/46576528

Rimu doesn't want authoritarians. I have never interacted with them personally, but it seems that this is causing issues for some people.

Rimu seems to be behaving like an authoritarian.

Please refer to this portion of the discussion thread, which appears to be the basis for the ban, and point to where I engaged in harassment: https://anarchist.nexus/comment/3846622

I have barely interacted with rimu either, but apparently thinking "Whats the big deal, ask them to update the code and review the pr" is harassment.

matrix print Mia and Rimu

It's wild how they used I added pronoun support so I can't be a transphobe in response to someone asking can you please not have a function called stupid?

To be honest he's probably extremely paranoid and on the defensive. He saw the avatar with the trans colors and was immediately "oh I fucked up better make it clear that I'm not a transphobe", what it's wild it's him kicking her out after her saying "I never accuse you to be transphobe chill out".

A wonderful mod from piefed.social is trying to argue their reasoning and all of rimus defenders are claiming transphobe is because of how the admin described the instance rimu attacked...

She slandered him as a transphobe elsewhere before that interaction though.

No it’s not.

Rimu doesn’t want authoritarians.

“Authoritarian” is the new “totalitarian” as “tankie” is the new “commie.” Horseshoe theory is horseshit.

moved to top comment

I read one of rimu@piefed.social 's threads about submitting user content to AIs for modding (and banning), and imho they made an important point. Actually less than that, they asked an important question, a request to discuss things in the fediverse.

But there was a bunch of what I'd describe as anarcho-capitalist* or just chan nerds who basically argued that it's not an issue because the fediverse is public anyhow, and anybody running an instance can do whatever they want anyhow, and therefore anybody who wants to discuss the ethics of the fediverse is ... well, wrong.

And I disagree with the conclusion.

I'm sure rimu@piefed.social was wrong in some points or rather how they went about things.
But they discussed their points calmly, unlike said others.

I'd take every claim that rimu has been lying or deliberately deceiving or whatnot with a huge grain of salt. This was done to me, too, in said post. One of the loudest commenters accused me of lying, over a technical discrepancy in saying "removing a link" vs. "taking down a link". IIRC. The latter, in their opinion, meaning the whole server was taken down and not just one link. It was all very emotional, I had the distinct feeling of being shouted at impatiently. Of course said person would claim that's just me 🤷

So.
While I don't know what actual harassment campaign he's refering to, what I witnessed in this post might well have resulted in some people taking further action via DMs or whatnot.

And anyhow, why wouldn't rimu@piefed.social ban some people on their own instance; it's very much in concert with the main argument against him.

It's one of those cases where rimu's role (as piefed's dev) makes him the perfect target for some sort of We the Underdogs vs. Big Dev narrative, and I just don't buy it.

I like how they expressed this themselves, including admitting that they got triggered: https://join.piefed.social/2026/05/12/what-worked-at-100-users-broke-at-5000/

* ig "libertarian" would be more fitting but I don't want USians to think this has anything to do with what they call liberalism

Please, feel free to review my history of posts and comments, and identify anything that you can that would point to harassment. Please note that I don't dm anyone, so I can screenshot an empty list, but thats all you're going to see there.

This line made me laugh:

Defined communication channels for feature requests, places to report bugs, delegate to others some/more of the community management, put together a FAQ and more docs, and so on.

If only there were any other developers on the Internet that they could have learned from and taken an example. If only anyone had ever written an application before.
