Is Patty not a kid anymore?
Seems like that's the extra joke that some Sunday strips have, that's she's a kid talking about "when I was a kid". Not sure if there's a proper name for it, but it's usually the first, long panel and the second panel making a small pre-joke that some newspapers cut out.
I think I've heard them referred to as "throwaway jokes". I recall Bill Watterson was very much against them, and refused to format his later Sunday Calvin and Hobbes strips to conform to such a rigid format.
