Boycott CBS

24d 6h ago by lemmy.zip/u/favoredponcho in politicalmemes from lemmy.zip

How do you boycott a network if you already don't watch any other shows on it?

Spread the boycott.

By not posting links to CBS News on Lemmy. Don’t give them your clicks.

Block them at the dns level

thier power lies in thier subscriptions, the less people subscribed to paramount+, which apparently is already hemmorhaging money from the streaming services, thier costs get higher. Also nutrek is likely whats keeping it alive for the moment, even though they cancelled most of the shows.

Boycott their advertisers

This is most effective when people pick one at a time.

If you’re watching Colbert on YouTube, you aren’t watching anything on CBS

of course if you have to watch it, USE adblock, so youtube and cbs does not get any ad revenue.

You're just trading one terrible company for another.

Best practice is to pirate that shit. 😌

Don’t stop

same. PARAMOUNT also is in huge debt for buying the network with CNN in it, compounding the debt of PARA+ itself, they are going to spend billions keeping it barely at float+ oracles datacenters costs. I think fans of trek seem quite ignorant of ellison being the owner of Paramount+, I HAVE Never seen any of them criticize the network(they probably dont want to ruffle the feathers), eventhough nutrek is pretty bad representatin of old trek, if not the exact opposite.

Tell your friends, tell your family. Have them do the same. Be a link in the chain.

You people can't do anything right.

Boycott Paramount AND all their assets.

I’ve been running a Plex server for 20 years, and subscribe to zero streaming services nor cable. I’m pretty sure I’m doing at least something right.

Edit: and before you jellyfin evangelists dogpile— i’ll migrate when it is ready. I look forward to that day, I really do, but it’s just not mature enough yet. I’m keeping my eye on it, and I’ll switch when the day comes. ❤️

Jellyfin users are like linux users, vocally superior in their choice. Don't listen to them, they wear their tech choices like their personality

I figured out a long time ago that the best solution is whatever works best for you. Plex works best for me and for my users. If jellyfin works best for you in particular, then I wish you all the best.

It’s not a competition

It's the mobile phone thing all over again. I've used Android, I've used iOS. Hell, I used Windows Mobile before either of two existed. I'm agnostic. I've used them both, and enjoy things about both. But not Windows Mobile, that shit was awful. I've used Plex for years and it's given me no reason to look elsewhere. Maybe if it drops a feature I like, maybe.

I tried Plex and Jellyfin, but the only one that has worked effectively for me has been Emby.

Emby is at least as old as Plex, and was one of the original forks of XBMC, just like Plex and kodi. I’m very familiar with it.

Never used plex but heavily looked into both plex and emby way back and came to the conclusion emby was what i wanted mostly due to it having an add on for Kodi that plex didnt. Funny enough plex released that same thing within the year and i was like oh well. Looking back on it all now I still love my decision even more. I paid for the lifetime sub which was $100 i think? Thats now under $1 a month and I don't see it going away anytime soon. I tried out jellyfin a few years ago for a 2nd media center and an excuse to try it out, I honestly didnt think it was very good and was shocked that everyone loves it so much. I even had issues playing some files which i never had problems with before on emby.

I wouldn't have said anything but as a user of both, jellyfin is my go to. It has surpassed Plex.

I’m interested in hearing how, as a user of both, it has, for you, surpassed plex

Its much faster to connect, plays everywhere at anytime, its layout doesn't have bullshit and gets right to the point so I can click and start watching right away. No additional crap I have to filter out, no stupid suggestions, and I like the info pages more.

For the rare times I am using a mobile client (like a tablet) I can do normal things like using swipe up and down for bright and volume and speed ahead and back.

I always choose jellyfin first.

For what it's worth: plexpass holder for over a decade.

I don’t have any of those problems with Plex. And the jellyfin interface is absolute garbage. It looks like some high school kid slapped it together for a class project.

It’s missing all of the library cross-linking that I rely on with Plex, especially because the three Plex servers. I administer have at least 8 different libraries, one of them has 12. Plex looks slick and professional. Just like I think it should. Jellyfin looks like a class project, slapped together at the last minute.

For me, Plex loads very, very quickly, and I don’t get any performance boost from jellyfin.

And now that you mention mobile access, I can count on Plex running smoothly and reliably across any client on any device anywhere. And a reliable native app is available on pretty much any platform. With jelly fin, I have to fish around for a client that works on a few platforms, if I’m lucky, and they’re unreliable, unstable, and lacking in most of the features that I know Plex has had for a decade or more.

For me, for the scale of media and the number of servers, I’m administering, it’s not even a choice. I hope jelly Finn gets there eventually, but they are years away from that point.

It doesn't load quickly unless you avoid Plex servers, because authentication happens through them.

Jellyfins interface is great what are you talking about? Easy, quick and to the point. Does exactly what I want.

Plex cant make up its mind what to do as they keep making it worse. More clicks to get anywhere and adding their own crap all the time.

Sorry, Plex is a mess. I just opened it now, and its so bad.

It doesn't load quickly unless you avoid Plex servers, because authentication happens through them

I’ve never had this issue

As for the interface, the Plex interface is to the point. Jellyfin is missing a huge amount of additional information that both I and my users rely on. If you just want very simple information, fine. But both I in my users don’t. They expect a rich media experience that Plex delivers and jellyfin does not.

I guess it really comes down to which experience delivers what you’re looking for. Plex delivers what I’m looking for and what my users are looking for. Jellyfin just doesn’t. But I’m glad that you’re getting what you want. And that’s what makes it the better choice for you and what makes Plex the better choice for me and my users.

Well yes you do sit and wait for Plex to log you in and for their logo. Jellyfin is up and ready to go nearly instantly.

I think jellyfin does have the information I want, but gets out of the way and lets me get on with it. All the extra crap Plex ads like their own channels, searching outside my libraries is all just more stuff I have to turn off.

However, I think it's ok to say it works for you and jellyfin works for me.

Which is about different than jellyfin needs to catch up. It's already surpassed Plex for some.

I’m glad you get the experience you want, but I don’t know how you can say it has “surpassed Plex, by having a 1/50th of the features.

And if your main complaint is that you have to disable some of them, or wait a couple of seconds for a splash screen once a week/month when you have to reload the app, those don’t really seem like reasonable complaints to me.

But, like I said, if you’re getting the experience you want, good for you. It’s just not the experience I want, or my users want.

Lol 1/50th Features? You mean all the shit Plex adds to make it suck?

You are really exaggerating. What exactly can Plex do that jellyfin doesn't? Not counting the crap like thier own ad channels.

I can think of maybe 2 and one of them is the easy remote access if you use them to login.

Hell, jellyfin still lets you watch together, which Plex took away.

The feature I miss the most from Plex though is photo sync. That was really handy and then they took it away.

Lol 1/50th Features? You mean all the shit Plex adds to make it suck?

You are really exaggerating.

Lol, OK buddy. Enjoy your holiday.

i’m glad for you, but jellyfin doesn’t have apps on some platforms i use, remained buggy on apple tv, and support for media segments was patchy… these are all nonstarters for me: simply being able to stream video on demand to android and ios devices is barely better than a network share for a huge amount of my use-case

Works fine on apple, but if you rely on smart TVs it can be an issue.

Sometimes I am surprised at how much better it works when I am remote though with spotty connections. Traveling and I just want to watch on the hotel TV and Plex chokes.

Running both has been nice to have one or the other at anytime. Been doing that for a long time.

"I’ve been running a Plex server for 20 years, and subscribe to zero streaming services nor cable. "

I feel like you want me to scratch you behind your ears and call you a "good boy"

Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy? Does little Homes want a treat? Treat?

Honestly? I want that.

Okay , have some validation and skritches.

You are such a good boy. The bestest good boy in the whole world.

Ooo, juvenile, arrogant, and faux moral superiority… go back to Reddit, kid

Aaaand that’s a block

Then again, who doesn't like validation and skritches?

Alt accounts?

Nope. Didn't mean to offend either. Just thought skritches were funny.

Not offended. And scritches are cute.

Well ......

You mean Comedy Central? Home of The Daily Show?

I think I'll continue to enthusiastically support The Daily Show.

Also anything Oracle.

I’m not 85 years old so I’ve been unintentionally boycotting CBS for years now

“Where’s Heehaw? When’s Kojak on? Tonight they’re going to reveal who shot JR. Goddamit the clicker’s not working.”

“Doing the right thing” is intentional

Edit: if anyone hallucinated that this meant some antipiracy message, that’s on you for projecting your version of “right” onto me. I know what I meant, don’t put your version of that on me.

So do I have to subscribe to Paramount+ and cancel my subscription or how does this work?

nope, just dont subscribe, the less people there are subscribed to P+ the more money they lose. since they already in debt for just having the streaming service. since PARAMOUNT+ has already been in debt prior to ellison buying it, i think its more costly now because they are forced to purchase WB/WC+CNN.

You do you, but I certainly wasn’t preaching an antipiracy message. If that’s what you interpreted from this, that’s on you.

No one thought you were talking about piracy or brought it up.

I'm so confused by this interaction.

Pretty easy to boycott CBS when the only thing on CBS I watched was Colbert 🤷‍♂️

Star Trek stuff on Paramount wasn't terribad, but it's all canceled now so /shrug - Colbert was the last thing remaining for me.

Yeah, the Star Trek on Paramount predicament has not made me a "happy camper."

Same except I only watched Colbert on Youtube.

don't you hate it when you want to boycott a product, but you never used it anyways?

I feel it about Chik-fil-a. I would boycott them for their anti-LGBTQ+ bullshit, but I already boycott them for having the most basic bitch chicken that only marginally surpasses Cane's (the blandest chicken ever) in terms of flavor.

Or Hobby Lobby because we only have Micheal's out here.

On the other hand, I grew up drinking more coke than water. it was always in my house growing up. And was my go to drink until a few years ago. Boycotting them was a pain for me. I'm so happy some shops now sell Palestine Cola. Besides that using a boycott app makes groceries a pain in the tusch

Its chikn...for white people

I wasn’t watching it anyway, but I’m gonna not watch it even harder now

I will continue to never watch network TV.

CBS cancelled it's best show to lick a pedos nut

They also ruined 60 minutes and the evening news. They’ve shat on their best programming. There is no reason to watch.

And they've completely borked Star Trek, with their biggest shows being conservative propaganda like Yellowstone spinoffs and anything else created by that pedo-ball-sucking twat Sheridan.

It would be great if the Kimmel Show hired him as a regular guest, or a small segment each week. Trump would lose his mind.

Already have been comrade🫡

I already cancelled my Paramount+ subscription and told them exactly why. 🙂

The Rehearsal with Nathan Felder did a bit where Paramount+ was compared to the Nazis, because they removed an episode of Nathan For You where he sold coats that donated money to the Holocaust museum for "being too controversial".

Once again, Nathan is showing he's ahead of the curve.

I started boycotting CBS the moment the Ellisons bought it. I won't watch any of their news programs, local or national. There might be an occasional TV show, but I'll try to download it instead.

I may pirate NFL games even if they are on local TV. Fuck em

Stop watching CBS, cancel your Paramount subscription. Hurt them were it hurts most, their wallets.

Larry Ellison and his hellspawn are a blight on society.

I cancelled my CBS+ the moment they fired Colbert.

I haven't seen any new Star Trek since.

Piracy is awesome

Yaaaarr

The fact that businesses sell or are allowed to be taken over by bad actors is a direct failure of capitalism. Companies operating with no regards to reputation is only beneficial when operating as service providers in a monopoly. Why so many allow mergers and buyouts from the worst of society are common truly speaks to the comically stupid system where stockholders would some how prefer their investment be overwritten by a comic book villain who's going to use the company for villain shit to just not doing that... is it that the stockholders aren't like us, that it's CEOs chasing a bonus, that relationships we're not provvy to overwrite business interests, or all of the above?

I haven't watched broadcast TV in over ten years I think the last thing I watched was the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The only way I can currently get broadcast TV is through Famelack.

Neat, I'd never heard of Framelack.

Appreciate the indirect pointer in that direction!

Easiest boycott on my list.

Insert: I'm gonna boycott even harder now!

I've been boycotting CBS since 2004!

I'm already years ahead of you on that one

Already have.

I wonder if they're aware of the irony of posting this to X. I checked their profile and they use Threads as well. Also, why is their location in Nigeria?

I googled the name and the only thing that came up was a reddit profile posting similar content with the handle zak_jony

Lots of people in developing nations are taking jobs playing multiple characters on X. When X started displaying country of origin on each account, a lotta popular MAGA accounts were outed as Nigerian or Indian or similar. With AI, people can catfish the whole internet on a whole new level.

Yep, and we shouldn't be amplifying them by posting here

Actually he probably just informed people of the problem, instead of pretending it doesn't exist.

Who are they informing? Libertarians and bots?

Could be that they set their location to Nigeria for shits and giggles like how I set my Chess dot com location to Aland and Steam is set to Antarctica. Could also be a bot farm though, kinda a coin flip on that one. Oh also they moved to Nigeria for some reason.

Sure yeah #votblue

I boycott ALL of it and have since 1999.

That was the year we got rid of cable TV and the TV altogether.

Cut the cord, it's liberating.

i've been boycotting CBS since they announced Stephen's cancellation. as of last Thur, my CBS watched dropped to 0 👍

I only watched Colbert on Youtube so I don't use CBS. Boycotting CBS is almost unnecessary, due to the dwindling footprint of network television in general.

Should be a fucking given

You can block them in Adguard Home. I did that, so no Paramount+ or CBS on my network, or any of our own devices anywhere. If our accommodation/adventure guests complain, I'll tell them to use their own data.

Again?

Oh wait I think it was 60 minutes last time lol

CB what?

Both the left and the right support this.

No. They have several shows I like and colbert sucked. Shouldn't have been pushed out because of trump, but can they do fallon next? I avoid enough shit over political reasons, come talk to me when Strange New Worlds ends, and we'll talk
