More on floating solar panels

How 1260 floating solar panels are cutting energy costs in Warrnambool

Wannon Water has deployed one of Australia’s largest floating solar arrays to help drive down costs across its network in southern Victoria.

The new system can generate more than 600,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable electricity each year, with 1260 bi‑facial solar panels capturing sunlight from above as well as reflected light from the water surface.

So what are the benefits of floating vs. grounded panels? Or is it a space thing? I assume it could also help with evaporation.

According to Wiki, "floating arrays can achieve higher efficiencies than PV panels on land because water cools the panels."

Cooler panels also are more efficient, I believe

No versus at all. Each situation/location has different options and solutions. The important thing is to find different ways of generating clean energy in the most efficient and economical ways.

I'm not saying floating solar panels can't make sense, but it's weird to see them here.

Australia is, after all, famous for its shortage of land and plentiful water.

😆 Yep, it does seem strange but the tyranny of distance makes it difficult because of the expense of infrastructure in many cases.

Water and electricity, together at last!

So, can I put them on the pool I don't have in the house I can't afford?

Literally, in yer dreams!

That little lake can serve around 500 households

Pretty amazing!
