Why all the e-bike startups went bankrupt.
22d 4h ago by lemmy.world/u/Alpha71 in micromobility from www.youtube.comI don't think I even need to watch the video. The market was absolutely flooded with cheap alphabet soup-branded Chinese models that people could purchase for near disposable prices and anyone else trying to enter the market with anything more expensive couldn't get a foothold on the market solidly enough to keep from going under when the fad plateaued and then dropped off.
Add to that: in order to convince consumers that your ebike is better than the Chinese alphabet soup brands (which cost 75% less), you need an established brand and market presence. You need reputation. And startups don't have that.
If I'm looking for an ebike, why should I trust some random new startup any more than I trust the Chinese junk? And why should I pay 4x more for it?
tldw?
For the USA-based ones it was the tariffs
I was going to say tariffs + end of COVID
