I want to mention that Lucy Lawless was already a mother when they recorded the pilot of Xena: Warrior Princess, and although I'm not saying that that helped bring a certain "please step on me" energy to the role, I certainly don't think that it hurt.
sorry, but i need to nerd about it.) technically, there was no dedicated pilot for Xena series. She was introduced and fleshed out during the latter part of the first season of Hercules in a trilogy of semi-backdoor pilot episodes in which she undergoes an entire arc that establishes her as protagonist going forward. I think this is the best way of introducing a character
