Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

No, never seen it before... Lol

"Lorem ipsum" text originates from a scrambled and altered passage of a work by the Roman statesman and philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero, specifically from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of his book De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum ("On the Ends of Good and Evil"), written in 45 BC.

The famous opening:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit...

is not meaningful Latin. It was created by taking words from Cicero's text and altering, removing, and rearranging them. For example, the word "Lorem" is believed to derive from "dolorem" ("pain" or "sorrow"), with the first syllable removed.

The reason it became popular is that printers and typesetters needed text that looked like natural language without distracting readers with meaningful content. By the 1960s, Lorem Ipsum was widely used in phototypesetting, and later it became the standard placeholder text in desktop publishing and web design software.

A portion of the original Cicero text reads:

Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet...

which roughly translates to:

"Nor is there anyone who loves or pursues pain itself because it is pain..."

So while Lorem Ipsum resembles Latin at a glance, much of it is deliberately corrupted and no longer forms coherent sentences.

Look at that, no video required, takes about 10 seconds to read.

Why the fuck would a video be needed for this?

Why the fuck would a video be needed for this?

For many reasons! Here are a few :)

  • Some of us want more than a tldr
  • Some of us, use videos and documentaries as an intro to topics we find interesting
  • Some of us like to fact-check what is being said by random people online, and the approach of how this youtuber does it, is a great example of that imo

Hope this anwers your question, and have a great one!
