Why Do French Suburbs Feel So Different? [10:54]

They are actually surprisingly similar to US or Canadian suburbs, except for having way more walls around lots, as well as smaller roads and some better public transport, smaller parking lots, better pedestrian crossings, and more bike paths.
So actually quite different then.
Different, but similar in the sense that most people still own a car and single family home lot sizes are similar.
So different to what?
A US suburb in the northeast, like Boston? Or one in the DC area? Baltimore? Chicago? Atlanta? St. Louis? How about Denver, or Omaha? Dallas? Ft. Worth?
See, these are all very, very different places, with very different environs, making for very different solutions.
This is exactly the question I was wondering. Even in the same area, neighborhoods with or without an HOA will be vastly different.
also just time periods. in the close suburbs it was built up sorta normally here but new develops in farther suburbs are pretty much forced to do the HOA thing by the localities they are in who don't want to have to do garbage, sewer, local road maintenance and such. Some of it is good as they have a lot of requirements around water and natural grounds now with flood control and native species. Of course that also makes things more expensive.
