What is your guilty goto food that you just can't stop?

13d 19h ago by lemmy.world/u/over_clox in asklemmy

Cottage cheese and garlic salt for me, what's yours?

Macadamia nuts. I can't have them in the house anymore. Once I bought a three-pound bag of them, and then I ate a three-pound bag of macadamia nuts. In one day. They're way too fucking expensive for that, and high in calories.

So, I don't buy macadamia nuts anymore.

That's me with pistachios. Once it became possible to buy them pre-shelled I knew I was in financial trouble because I can eat them non-stop. I need the shells to rate-limit myself.

Are you Chrisjen Avasarala? Keeping them in your purse and munching on them whenever you’re in meetings with people you don’t like very much?

Have you tried this brand? They were a revelation to me. Soooo good, no macadamia has compared, so far. They taste like salted butter.

Ah, the classic Queensland bush nut from Australia.

It has taken the world by storm.

And rightfully so, it is the king of all nuts, without a doubt.

It has no peer, and I don't blame you.

They are perfect by themselves but if you add a little bit of garlic salt to them or some other flavoring they are just beyond belief.

The area where they are originally from in Queensland has obviously the world's largest producers, and some of their specialty herbs and spices they put on them just are unbelievable.

They are a pain in the ass to shell but delicious when you do

I've been on an apple slices and peanut butter kick lately. My grocery store has been selling big bags of granny smiths for $5 and I'm going through them so quickly

Would you like some garlic salt with that?

LOL, I jest, but still, I'll put garlic salt on practically anything.

Yeah I'm weird, but hey, apple slices and peanut butter sounds pretty good too..

Get yourself shittin' like a 15-year-old farmboy that way

I love mashing a can of tuna, mayonnaise, and sweet relish together in a bowl and either horking it straight or using it like dip on potato chips or doritos. Probably the most aggressively white and fat thing I do but it tastes good to my autism soooo

missing the mustard tho

Mustard isn't a Food™ in my book, but sometimes it's okay, I guess..

I'd rather not

That's basically a tunafish sandwich without the sandwich. Add a bit of lemon juice and it'll knock down the fishy taste. Add a bit more lemon juice for a bit more citrus excitement.

I accidentally added too much mayo to my tunafish the other day and fixed it with a bit of Panko, of all things. The extra crunch was super neat and was better than celery that some people add. (Panko, for those who don't know, is a Japanese breadcrumb that is super close in texture to rice crispies. I thought it would help absorb the extra mayo, and it kinda did, but also kinda didn't.)

it’ll knock down the fishy taste

If you don't buy low quality "chunk" tuna the fishy taste is usually not an issue. Buy "solid" canned tuna as it's usually nicer cuts of white meat rather than whatever ground up leftovers comes in the cans of "chunk". And it's only like 15c a can more.

Canning companies managing to market the level of meat quality as a simple difference in form has got to be one of the sneakiest marketing rug pulls ever accomplished.

I'm just here to tell you there's no reason whatsoever to feel guilty about eating cottage cheese. It's got great protein and fat content. Throw a dusting of psyllium husk on there for some fiber and scoop it out with some whole wheat peta chips or crackers and you've got yourself a meal

Damn you, you reminded me I still have more cottage cheese and crackers...

Try spreading it over toast!

Fresh-roasted nuts, like cashews.

Doesn't matter the batch size, they need to be finished!

Damn you, now you just reminded me of my other goto food..

Sunflower seeds, pre-shelled, roasted and salted.

Fuck, now I'm hungry again...

Yet another snack that does very well toasted a bit in the AF. That thing's a miracle worker for reviving stale snacks.

Umm, okay..

Neither cottage cheese nor sunflower seeds ever goes stale around me, they always get ate within 1 to 2 days...

Salted pistachios are basically crack

Mashed potatoes.

They will be no leftovers.

Muhfuggin Manwich sloppy joes. I can pack those away in such unhealthy doses.

I want like a sub sandwich with American cheese coated with manwich ...

Maruchan ramen and chicken bouillon cubes. I was literally raised on these when my impoverished single mother couldn't afford to feed us when I was a couple of years old. Sticks with you.

Cottage cheese and garlic salt for me

Not trying to yuck your yum, but what even leads one to try mixing these together? This sounds like a pregnancy craving sort of invention. When my mom was pregnant with me, she tells me she would make scrambled egg and mustard sandwiches. It sounded insane to me, but I tried it and actually love it, and now that's my weird guilty food. :)

Salt and pepper is normal way to enjoy cottage cheese. Garlic salt isn't a big leap.

It actually started off with garlic salt and Cheerios (in milk, I'm not a savage, I promise). I think it was around 2008, I had a tooth cavity, so I was avoiding sugar at all costs, but Cheerios taste like cardboard, so I needed some sort of flavor to it anyways, it just wasn't gonna be sugar.

And so it came to be, I very rarely eat sweets anymore. I'm down to 24 teeth now, 7 of which have fillings, and I ain't looking to lose any more teeth if I can possibly avoid it.

Olives and feta. I throw in tomatoes and call it a Mediterranean salad, but I'm really here for the salt.

Peanut butter out of the jar with a spoon.

Ok but crunchy or smooth? Crunchy is my go to

Fresh ground is the best. It's between chunky and smooth, I get mine from Bulk Barn (a Canadian chain)

Smooth for me, although I do like crunchy.

"i think I'm hungry"

Eats cottage cheese..."never mind, I'm just bored"

I always have cottage cheese as my hungry food. It works great

Pickles. Or anything pickled for that matter. When I get a craving for something pickled, especially when I'm drinking beer, get out of my way!

Same. Pickles or olives.

Cottage cheese and potato chips preferably sour cream and onion chips.

Guilty? Isn't that just basically health food? That was the craze when I was younger anyways.

Guilty pleasure is like strawberry ice cream with hot fudge sauce in a sugar waffle cone or something like that. Maybe deep fried.

Oh maybe you are saying that combination. But garlic and cheese go well together, no surprise there either. That is kind of cottage cheeses lot in the world: it kind of works with most things. Dont have enough ricotta for your manicotti? Cottage cheese will do in a pinch, and well.

Try cottage cheese with peach slices

Not really a "food" but I find peanut butter M&Ms the most addictive thing in the world.

I wish I could get a candy with the texture of peanut butter M&M's with the flavor of Reese's peanut butter. Reese's Pieces are harder than I like, but the M&M's have the perfect crunch, IMO.

I like the M&Ms a lot better, but this year when I did my annual binge of 75% off, post-Easter candy, I got some Reese's pieces eggs. They were like Reese's pieces, but much larger - maybe the size of peanut butter M&Ms. They were actually really good; a better inside to outside ratio.

Similarly, one of my favorite candies are the Cadbury mini eggs they sell at Easter, which are a similar size. They're like large plain M&Ms, with better quality chocolate and candy. I like the dark chocolate version best.

Powdered milk.

With a straw right? Right?..

No, just eat it with a teaspoon. At least that's what my wife used to do.

Glass of nutella

Good dried salami

yessss. I'm vegetarian most of the time but when my husband has salami I can not resist a slice or two!

yes hur hur I love my husband's salami

Peanut Butter. Put a big dob on a plate and hand me a spoon.

Like, I'm at the point where I've acquired a Vitamix so I can make my own. Which is even more dangerous, as now I can also control the sugar and add flavorings. A nice dash of brown sugar or a hint of Vanilla really make it pop.

Peanut Butter

Sayin' hey to the peanut butter gang!

For me it's a big ole scoop of peanut butter and a small glass of milk to wash it down.

My wife loves cottage cheese with crushed BBQ potato chips mixed in, which I imagine is similar.

Nilla wafers and strawberry cream cheese.

I can fucking down a whole pint of Ben and Jerry's Chunky Money or/and Peanut Butter Cup everyday.

Pilot/Flying J truck stops have this thing called the "Big Dog", a sausage roll that's over a foot long. Garlic butter on the crust of the roll. It's delicious. I end up buying one every time I go inside... and since I drive a truck for work, that's a near-daily occurence.

I have only found them at Whole Foods, but I used to go through bags of Cedar baked pita chips with jalapeño hummus like it was fucking crack.

Vla. It's dutch and it's glorious.

Gimme vlaflip or gimme death

de vlaflip! jaja!

Yellow mustard and cheddar cheese on wheat bread

The only thing I have to say about cottage cheese is that large curd is vastly superior in every way that counts, but it's almost impossible to find these days in my part of the world.

Great Value has a "large curd" option, but it is in fact not anywhere close to being large curd and none of the Walmart stores in my area carry it anymore. Same thing with Breakstone's. One store in my area carries it, but it does not qualify as large curd. They should be ashamed of themselves, they put the label on there but the curd size is indistinguishable from small curd.

We got a backwards scenario here. What they label as 'Small Curd' is basically large curd 👍

Y'all have a funny definition of guilty. Didn't read the whole thread but I bet one of you silly sumbitches called a Caesar salad a guilty pleasure. Mine's pizza. Any variety. I will eat the whole pie. Pizza is love, pizza is life.

Trader Joe's gummies that come in random shapes like fried eggs and cherries. They're on another level compared to other generic gummies. Must be because they're sourced from France.

spicy bbq pork rinds dipped in sour cream. the sour cream makes them taste almost sweet.

I just threw away 3 empty boxes of Arnott's Shapes - the cheese and bacon ones specifically.

I need help.

Ahh man. They're devilishly bad and good. Love em

Potato and onion pierogies with maple syrup.

Sunflower seeds. I rarely buy them because I go through them by the handful

I haven't tried that, but I'm confident it would taste great.

I like putting salted potato chips in my cottage cheese. Adding garlic salt would enhance the awesomeness.

It’s not a food but I seem to be addicted to drizzling sesame oil on almost everything: eggs, Raman, rice, chicken, veggies, pizza, etc.

This image terrifies me

Good, more for me..

If you haven't tried Lawry's Seasoned salt on cottage cheese. I got some news for you!

Butter toffee peanuts, sadly most stores around me stopped selling them. Not sure why...

But the most extreme and unique snack I used to eat a lot is pickled herring, however I haven't had it in years.

You know that Herr's "Mexican street corn" popcorn?

Shit is crack cocaine.

Wild. I feel positively virtuous when I have cottage cheese. It's basically the only cheese that doesn't feel like a sin. That garlic salt option sounds decent, will give it a shot.

Personally my guilty goto food is crisps (chips for most of you guys). I stopped eating them about 6 weeks ago and have lost nearly 2kg in weight. Not sure it's worth it.

Oh lawd. I eat the boy versions of Girl Dinner when not cooking for my partner.

Hot sauce on bare popcorn.

Shopska salad with 1 cold additive thrown in. Beans, pickles, olives makes it Greek salad, peppers, sardines, pepperoni, etc.

Good quality sardines on crackers or in pita bread. With hot sauce.

Peanut butter and jelly burrito

Egg sandwich in baguette with hot sauce.

Greek yogurt and plain granola.

Pasta, canned herring in tomato sauce, garlic olives

Garlic salt?? In regular (not low sodium) cottage cheese?? One of the things I like to add to cottage cheese is everything bagel seasoning, but I have to make my own seasoning blend without salt since cottage cheese is already quite salty.

What can I say? I like salty foods.

I can't eat cottage cheese without salt.

I thought I did too, but damn, that's a whole different level!

Dessert: Iced oatmeal cookie+crunchy peanut butter+iced oatmeal cookie sandwich

Snack: tortilla+cheese+lots of tajin with a dill pickle on the side

Dinner: cream cheese cheddar bagels stuffed with cucumbers

Ohh I want to try this

Mocha. I can take or leave most things but mocha is mandatory.

I stopped them all, just swap to new ones constantly, used to be plain white bread a little bit of ketchup sandwich spread and kraft cotto salami sandwiches, just never have the ingredients when I crave it, I also would just down cold chicken hotdogs growing up but I got paranoid about getting sick (think they are precooked), miss the taste, cold fried chicken the next day tastes close but the texture isnt the same.
