Jakarta - A video showing a mass of trash forming an island off the coast of North Jakarta (Jakut) has gone viral on social media. A joint task force has been deployed to clean up the “trash island.”
The mass of trash is located about 600–700 meters from shore. The pile of trash forming the island protrudes from the water’s surface.
The trash is believed to have been carried by river and ocean currents, then piled up and rising above the coastal water surface, resembling land. The joint task force will be cleaning up the trash pile over the next few days.
