Maverick Beware, Toyota Could Launch A RAV4-Based Pickup | Carscoops

The RAV4 hybrid already out-powers the Maverick, and Toyota is now seriously considering a pickup built on the same bones

My guess is 4 doors, 5 foot bed, $50,000.

If this had come out 5 uears ago, it would have been really interesting. The last generation of toyotas has been less than reliable see tacos eating transmissions, tundras eating motors.

But Rav4s are fine.

Thats because the rav4 drivetrain hasn't really changed in 20 years. Hell they're still using the 2GR-FE from 2006.

I mean, the 2gr isn't the greatest either, they used to eat timing chain guides iirc. Its better now though afaik. Hell, our highlander has 275k on it and its doing fine.

The RAV-4 only comes with the 2.5L 4 cylinder engine in this generation.

Don’t worry, either they or their dealerships will fuck it up on the price. “Starting at a low reasonable price of $70k!”

Ford’s dealerships did that for the Maverick on release. I had a salesman literally laugh in my face when I asked about a $27k fully loaded Maverick on their lot listed on their website. “Nah man, we automatically apply a $6k markup on all Mavericks on our lot. Just like we do a $50k markup on the new Lightning trucks.”

Why do we even need car dealers?

There's this gigantic BMW/Mercedes entertainment complex under construction near me, and I do not get it. It should be a test driving lot + repair bay, not Disney World with wine trays. Who is stupid enough to buy from there?

I think it’ll do fine due to the Tacoma fan base and pedigree. The reason Maverick probably did so much better than Santa Cruz is that people buying it saw the Ford badge and thought they were buying a truck, or at least that other people would think they’re buying a truck. They didn’t want their friends laughing at them for buying a Santa Cruz and being a f@g. That’s the US for you.

Now if Subaru made a new Baja or another ute there might be some competition but Hyundai just doesn’t have that pedigree. If somebody wants an Asian unibody truck they’ll probably get a Ridgeline cuz at least their friends will just call them a btch instead of a f@g.

Well the styling for the Maverick makes it look like a truck while the Santa Cruz looks more like the product of a soccer mom van who had a few too many White Claws one night and decided to have a one night stand with the mullet wearing El Camino she just met at the bar.

Haha yeah that’s true. The boxy styling wins.
