LA is proposing a subway system for Dodger Stadium. This will allow people to commute from the stadium parking area to the stadium

What in the concrete hellscape is this?
Even better, its on top of a hill with only a couple roads access. Needless to say, traffic is a fucking nightmare. Put a subway in from literally anywhere else to the stadium would be a better option.
Also, it comes with the story of Chavez Ravine which was forcefully evicted to make way for the stadium.
Now, let me guess what kind of people lived there...
What a complete and utter surprise.
Oh, it's even better than just evicting mexicans. They did so under the pretence of building public housing. After the evictions they dropped the plan and built a privately owned stadium instead.
LA and bulldozing neighborhoods is sadly a tale as old as time
LA is thinking of doing a gondola
Why not just drive from parking to the stadium? No need to build an expensive subway, just a small 8 lane road from the parking to the stadium will be enough.
70mph limit
They should have drive in stadiums by now, it's the obvious thing to do.

Getting to/from dodger stadium is awful. There’s only 1 small motel nearby. It’s an uphill walk. The traffic is a mess. There’s no near train stop.
What this place needs is obviously more car lanes.
The American mind cannot comprehend transportation unless it involves cars somehow
They apparently cannot also comprehend multi storey Carparks.
What a gigantic waste of space. Never knew how large this stadium is.
Even if you were a local you probably wouldn’t appreciate it unless you saw it like this. How much housing/flats could have been created rather than spending at most a few nights a week as a car park?
Why dod they not build a 3-4 story parking garage around the stadium? The area of the parking loy ia greater than the stadium itself.
Parking garages are expensive. You can spend $30,000 to build a space... At $50 a game you'd pay it off in 7.5 seasons, not controlling for maintenance and operating costs.
Now the trend is to build entertainment districts around venues... Which creates more revenue per square foot, so you'll start to see more garages going up.
A parking garage couldn't possibly cost more than a subway system, especially when you factor in the ongoing costs of operations, security, maintenance, etc. A parking garage is a big static building, a subway is an entire SYSTEM of many moving parts.
Yeah, I get it. The question was why did they build massive surface lots instead of garages. The answer is looking at historic decision-making.
The stupidity of future decisions is clear
I suspect that this massive subway system will be excavated by Musk's stupid Boring Company, which is based in LA. Just another massive taxpayer giveaway to the richest man on history.
Uhhhh, why haven’t they done underground parking?
That might make line go up more slowly.
I would wager Earthquakes would be one reason.
LA has plenty of underground parking, including at the children's hospital, so I don't think that it's that.
All so massively unhealthy sedentary blobs can go hoot and holler at drug-enhanced millionaires playing a poor child's pastime while enriching the billionaire owners by buying 25$ hot dogs made of factory farmed animals huddled ten to the square foot.
For the emperor! /s

🎵 Pave paradise
🎵 And put up a parking lot

Meanwhile BART is being sued by a stadium for trying to extend service to the stadium

Reading the Sharks president's arguments felt like my brain was turning to slurry.
How about a subway from LA to the stadium?
Maybe this is step 1 in tricking car brains to support public transport
Subway from stadium parking to the stadium is much cheaper

What a shithole...
Wow. US are truly fucked

So turns out public transport is great. As long as it's to and from parking lots.
Also, c/fuckcars
Gotta get to the stadium early to avoid needing to park in the next state.
It's like when Homer parked at work but the parking spot was right next to his back yard

Disneyland has trams to take you from the parking lots to the entrance of the park. This is the next iteration.
Which was paid for by Disney, not taxpayers.
That is so vile
This image makes the stadium look like its ontop of a giant dome lol.
Anyways, for people asking about car parks and such, LA is notorious even by american standards for being an absolutely unfathomably large sprawling paved area. Just think of the biggest suburban sprawl possible and thats LA.
At some point put in a multistory. Or forget the car park and just run a train or bus service to the stadium.
They gave up on the gondola?
I think the Gondola is still on the table. Honestly it’s a great idea, Union station is very close as the crow flies, just walking from it right now is a nightmare because of the freeway in the way.
An extention of some light or heavy rail line would be good
Eh, I agree with nandert that an underground light metro would be more useful, in part because you can use it to extend transit north of Dodgers Stadium to create a better used system overall.
That may be, I’m just unsure on the cost differential. Feels like an underground line would be more expensive, but IDK.
Something very yonic and sapphic about this picture... I see why lesbians love softball
Get a room.
I'm a gay man I just appreciate lesbians, they're cool
Uh-oh. Now I am starting to understand just how massively things are fucked there
Lemme guess, Elon is going to dig the holes for it with his Boring Company. He already has a quarter mile Test Tunnel.
Actually they’ll be planning to have an entire exit path to all major interior and exterior highway arteries 🔨 🛣️
