Majority of voters want Brexit to be reversed, says Britain’s leading pollster

11d 6h ago by lemmy.world/u/CAVOK in europe@feddit.org from www.independent.co.uk

Brexit can't be reversed, but UK can join the EU under new agreements.

And no special treatment this time hopefully

They’ll be required to bark like a dog.

As an Australian I'd bark like a dog if we were ever invited to join, fuck the UK they had their chance, had a sweetheart deal and fucked themselves over.

I will happily bark like a dog if you let my house join.

Atreides? Is that you?

A majority of voters never wanted brexit in the first place, but they were either.

  • too dumb to realise it.
  • they were lied to and manipulated into voting the wrong way by mainstream media and politicians
  • they didn't read the fine prints
  • they were just racist.
  • all of the above

my dumbass stupid boyfriend voted for brexit and I mock him for it relentlessly because we are both men.

ultimately, a simple referendum should never have been acted on to this extent, but it was what the racist tories wanted so they had to push it through (cunts)

At least he has a pretty face, right?

yeah 😊

and they still reward Farage

Farage is like a cockroach. He'll keep surviving and finding a new place to emerge from with the same aim: get sustainence and spread shit when no one's looking

But . . . They had a bus! With stuff written on it!

C’mon, that’s as close to god’s own truth as can be!

And the NHS has so much money right now as promised on that bus!

And by law, busses may carry flat out lies 👍

Nooo, once the propah Brexit is achieved, it'll so much bettah /s

I would say before Brexit can be reversed a big part of the population needs some better education about politics and social economic issues.

Without that, people will just chose the populist option again.

This is why if you're going to put major difficult to reverse decisions to a referendum, you should require a supermajority to take action.

When cats do that it's because they expected you to follow them outside. They just wanted to roam around with their bud.

Those older voters that were Pro-Brexit in 2016, well, a lot of them are dead ten years later.

Idiots

Egotistical assholes*, you mean?

Glad someone else pointed this out.
It's disingenuous of the article to suggest opinions have changed, I dont think they have.
The demograpgic of those aroynd to comment today is different. There was low turnout amongst younger voters while the older population both turned out and voted leave. We now have 10 years of older voters, ~60% of whom wanted to leave. And we have 10 years of new voters who werent given a say, but extrapolating the data should be about 80% in favour of EU membership.

The baby boomers have expoited disproportionate volume representation their entire lives. As that volume bubble dies off, i hope we will coninue to see better social and environmental responsibility, alongside progressive, collaborative, and inclusive longer term thinking.

Nice assertion. Too bad there isn't a single fucking number or specific statistic in the entire article to back it up. Terrible journalism.

Feelings sell.

@fireweed @CAVOK
So you're not aware of any of the 500-odd surveys on Brexit conducted since 2016?
Have you signed up for Curtice's Newsletter?

The job of a journalist includes adding sources to back up the conclusion. Going looking for them yourself is just reinforcing whatever the article is saying.

@nightwatch_admin
You want journalists to recount the last 10 years of history – which has already been recounted 100s of times – because you weren't paying attention all this time? 😉

Dearest England,

     🖕

Love,

Europe.

Well yeah. Especially with current state of affairs in the UK.

Majority doesn't matter. It's flip flopping around 50% and they will vote Brexit again at the next opportunity.

Take them in when 66% or better 75% want to join again.

Tja

Da's een nee, ja toch?

Pull a Moldova. Join Ireland and enter the EU that way.

The UK, a place that overthrew and then brought back its monarchy. 🤣😂🤣

UK never overthrew the monarchy. K is for kingdom

You should learn about Oliver Cromwell

Wasn't that like in 1600? I thought you referred to UK as a modern political entity (post Irish free state). I could see it being stretched to 1700 but before that there was no united kingdom, there were multiple entities governed by the same ruler else articles of union and acts or union would be a nothing burger

And yet, it’s hard to imagine there being a king if they hadn’t restored Charles II.

My biggest issue with the vote was that Brexit didn't win.

48% votes to remain and 52% percent votes for 6 different and often mutually exclusive relationships. Which was proven as soon as negotiations began and why there should have been a vote on the final deal which would have certainly failed. But instead people voting for a Norway model or a Swiss model all got counted alongside the lunatics that would have physically dragged the UK further into the Atlantic to get away from Europe given the chance.

It wasn't 48% Vs 52%, it was 48% vs 8% and 8% and 8% .......

Not a true Scotsman, but applied to Brexit

why havnt they done it in 10years? surely the first few years of economy going down the drain would expedite the process.

People complained that the Brexit wasn't a proper one. And a proper one would improve economy

Feelings against brexit was always a thing, getting off their arse and actually voting against it was the problem.
