Tapped out: Okanagan faces water shortages on farms and in cities

The sudden announcement that irrigation flows to Greater Vernon-area orchards and farms will be reduced to a relative trickle is amplifying concerns about water scarcity across the Okanagan.

On Thursday, the Regional District of North Okanagan announced it is mandating a 70 per cent reduction in water use for agricultural users.

The move is unprecedented, but officials say the region has never faced "a drought this severe."

"Given the state of reservoir levels, this reduction is required to merely maintain water flows throughout the summer and fall," RDNO communications officer Stacey Raftus said in an emailed statement.

Well the ALTERNATIVE is that they have Water and Billionaires DONT become Trillionaires so OBVIOUSLY there's NOTHING we Can do to Change this Situation!

because neither the post nor the article specify, North Okanagan is in rural BC, Canada

This article is about the Canadian metropolitan area.
