What do y'all think would happen if all the displaced scientists started running for office? I'm having serious trouble finding a post-doc position, and I was thinking of raising hell in politics and having a big "donate to my personal research endowment if you want me out of politics" thing.
I, for one, would like to say “hell yeah, I vote for this”
they can do more damage by "brain drain" moving to another country that is currently accepting phd and doctors, long term it hurts the US alot more both politically and ecomically. i think running for office is fruitless at this point. right now the US is hostile to intellectuals trying to get a jobs in already limited market for scientists.
That sounds nice, but China is the only country hiring academics. I've been sending emails to European labs for months, but I guess they've already filled up any extra capacity they had because there are no responses even from labs who are a really good fit. I'm not opposed to going to China (I actually have an interview with a chinese lab), but the language barrier worries me a lot.
When all this chaos started, my mentor said there was no point in moving to other countries because the world didn't have the capacity to absorb all the US academics. In hindsight, that should've made me move faster, but now it seems the options are US (maybe if one of the five labs who wants me actually gets funding - which is looking doubtful) or China (and accept that I can't speak the language and will have to move back to the US eventually). I've actually began thinking maybe I could pitch some of my projects to industry, but it seems challenging to get them on board with basic research.
There's just not many options.
targeting intellectuals is pretty much the first sign of total control by facsists of the government and public opinion. thats why a bunch of them fled early last year.,
Then you won't get the best scientists. Job security is important for people who like living indoors.
That's the idea.
They want people pointing to the lack of evidence for climate change from 2027 onward. You know, because they're in the process of destroying evidence.
they wont get scientists period.

He's got degrees in law and finance. So he's a real qualified epidemiologist.
