Introducing Proton Drive CLI: Use Drive from your terminal

Proton Drive CLI is here, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Whoooooooo!

Because who the hell uses CLI tools on Windows and MacOS :D

The CLI is implemented in TypeScript

🤢🤢🤢

  • There's a new proton drive CLI
  • That's good
  • The CLI is implemented in TypeScript
  • That's bad
  • It is available on Linux
  • That's good
  • It pulls in a massive node_modules directory
  • ...
  • That's bad

Can I have my drive now?

You must be kidding. The CLI is far from a web browser and there is no need to running TypeScript at all for this task. Build it in Go, Rust or Zig that is more suitable for this task.

With the SDK available, I hope we see kio/gfs integration.

Linux support...Finally!

One step closer to Synology HyperBackup?

Um... Disappointing. Why does it have to be CLI? It's good for some things, not great at others.

Getting a CLI version done first is kind of a natural step forward, with GUI and desktop integration to follow next.

Getting the basic functionality working is usually an early step. Then later you build a GUI. They did the same with Proton VPN.

I have their CLI VPN client on my laptop under LMDE7. Wrote two zsh scripts to handle connection/disconnection automatically depending on my wifi connection. Very handy.
