Sometimes you just click a button and get lucky.
I've put a lot of work in photographing barn owls, mostly at one site in the Peak District, but the hundreds nearly thousands of hours up there have helped me really get good at knowing how to photograph these birds in a way that allows for moments like this to happen.
It's a gorgeous image, stormy clouds behind, golden light and a barn owl no more than 4metres away from me, I had to zoom out to get it fully in frame.
But it's an image possible because I watched & waited patiently in a single spot as this barn owl hunted the fields off in the distance.
Content in the fact that I was watching the most gorgeous scene and knowing that there was a slight chance it'd come my way and if it did it'd be comfortable and focused on hunting and scanning for voles, barely even noticing me, allowing me to take one of my favourite images to date.
