Sylvia Plath, "On Looking Into The Eyes Of A Demon Lover".

One wonders if she "gets" it - the fact that inverted her is glorious.

And (either way) in the wondering, we mere readers are made better. 🧠

I wonder what she was like. She seems so strong in her poems, but her life was not so strong.

Oh I did not even consider that the artist herself may have been intended there - I was looking at the "So I stared" in the first sentence of the last stanza, just after the "witch's face" in the prior sentence, so was considering what a witch looking into such a portal would see.

But of course like a dream, perhaps every subject in a poem is some manner of reflection upon the writer, so "she" herself sees beauty there? (Though hopefully more real, as opposed to e.g. the witch looking)

I think there's always a little of yourself in what you create as an artist.

True dat.

Great reminder to read some of her stuff again. Thanks!

It's so good. Have you read Anne Sexton too?
