Anthropic to disable Fable 5, Mythos 5 after US export-control order

I guess there's no need to make better AI, then. It's already as good as it's allowed to be. Now we can focus on running existing models more efficiently and maybe local. There's that chip company who said they could 10x the energy efficiency of AI if it were built into the chip, but it would mean losing the innovation of rapidly iterating models. Well, this is the moment. If we could have local models that ran for the cost of charging your car and everyone had access to them, maybe that would give us a measure of what AI has always promised mankind.
yeah, that is pretty insane at 17k tokens per second. It feels as if answers are already cached just waiting for you to prompt.
If they manage to fit larger and more recent models in it, it could greatly improve the energy requirements to run these models.
The recent diffusion LLM from google is also really exciting, and I think they might become the new architecture of choice for these models when running on general purpose GPUs - especially consumer cards, which are usually memory constrained, but computing-capable.
IIRC, that particular configuration was more like 72x not 10x. Would probably be good for large models that can do many things, so you’re less “stuck.”
Oh Dario. You were just doing a play for investors, as in "AGI is almost here, trust us, almost here. Just give us our IPO money". You never meant for the government to actually believe you! dang it! 😭
The government didn't believe any of the marketing. But The Diapered One gladly took this as an opportunity for a shakedown. It's bribe o'clock at Mar-a-Lago; as soon as that's done, you'll see all the "security concerns" fall apart fairly quickly. It was the same with NVIDIA's chip exports to China, which magically became less of a concern after the CEO's $1m USD dinner at Mar-a-Lago.
Naw, this'll just be fed to potential investors as chum to sharks.
AFAIK, Anthropic's IPO is mid-october. So, until then it'll frequently hit the news how "Anthropic is 'trying' to release Fable 5, but it's just sooooo good that the government won't allow it" and all the drama and concessions in between.
Then around the beginning of October, (weeks before the IPO) they'll have a " breakthrough " and will receive the blessing of the government to release it. This could be in the form of mandatory citizenship checks, better "safeguards", etc.
Regardless, all this'll happen shortly before the IPO. It'll be a Christmas Miracle /s! People won't have enough time to know if Fable 5 meets the hype, but it won't stop investors from buying stock in a nonprofitable company.
Absolute THEATRE with these AI doofs.
Hegseth's boozy greasy hands are all over this.

- In the weeks leading up to the launch of Fable, Anthropic worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours in total.
- These tests showed that Fable’s safeguards are substantially more effective than those of any previously deployed model.
- No testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak—a jailbreak method that can very broadly bypass the model’s safeguards, unblocking a wide range of cyber capabilities.
- We suspect that perfect jailbreak resistance is not currently possible for any model provider. Every safeguard used in the industry is vulnerable to non-universal jailbreaks (which can elicit some cyber information in specific circumstances), and it is likely that universal jailbreaks will eventually be found in the future. We stated this clearly when we released Fable 5.
- Given that perfect jailbreak resistance does not appear to be possible today, Anthropic adopted a defense in depth strategy with Fable 5 [...]
