What's the deal with this creator? Has anyone heard of him?
2d 19h ago by lemmy.world/u/gedaliyah in asklemmy from www.vayunmathur.comThis is a single progammer who has been releasing new FOSS apps like gangbusters over the past few months. I've been in the open source community for a while now and it's pretty unusual.
Many of them are complex, ambitious, projects such as email client, calendar, location sharing, etc. There are also a lot of games that are pretty decent. In the past, app groups like this have been the work of teams of people over the course of years, not a single developer over months.
So I guess I'm curious if this looks like things are in the up and up. I don't notice any obvious telltale signs of vibe coding, but I don't really know enough to check code that way. I've used a couple apps and noticed thoughtful updated in features over time, so these don't seem vaporware, fly-by-night apps either.
Am I being paranoid? Is this really a single dev creating apps across a dozen different system functions? Anyone know who they are?
It’s very possible, but consider them all beta projects that will not be maintained later.
Edit: after looking, yes it’s all vibes. But that doesn’t mean they are bad. The apps he’s making are very common apps. AI can easily make those. Expect bugs.
Thank you.
I'll stick with the games for now.
As I said, there have been reasonable updates and it seems that the dev is taking some care. Still, several of these projects really require some specialized knowledge. I wouldn't trust my email to something that hasn't been carefully built and checked by people who know their stuff.
Yeah exactly. I see an end to end encryption messaging app as well. I’m definitely trusting that to some teenager.
Web site is too perfect for a junior, AI on LinkedIn profile, too many commits in one week, commits are too big. It's vibe coded.
He is most likely using this as a resume, I've seen that a lot recently.
"at the intersection of X and Y" is a very common AI pattern I've been seeing on dev sites lately
