Meta Is Testing Police Surveillance Tech for Its Smart Glasses

A report suggests ties between Meta's facial recognition technology and a company that sells surveillance tools to military and police.
It's insane to me that humanity, as in civilians, don't seem to care. We don't even live natural humanity anymore...
People love to shit on peter theil, but we are basically part of creating a path to the crazy shit he talks about. And because of that, in some ways, he is correct to be pushing for what he believes, because in a cyber world it's basic necessity.
When I step back and look at humanity is feels gut wrenchingly evil, as if evil controls the world and has already sucked the soul from our "modern civilizations".
Also it's as if everything I was taught to live for growing up was a lie. Like every generation gets told lies to keep them in line for some grand orchestrated ideological path that is separated from the honest essence of what it means to be human. And then once you get old enough to realize, you get labelled crazy.
I wish young people would realize this. But it's also like telling the truth to them kills their innocence because the honest reality is... Life is war and chaos and if you aren't in that reality, you're kind of just existing as an escapist and a tool for something inhumane. It sounds odd and contradictory, but it's not as paradoxical as it seems.
On a surface level, it's the same type of shit that got Trump into office. The bad things only happen to bad people so this won't affect them. Same mentality as "if you have nothing to hide why are you so worried about it?"
The people that don't care either don't think it's a big deal because they are one of the "good" ones or they believe these billionaires have their best interest in mind. What they don't realize is that it has nothing to do good vs evil and the powers that be can decide at any point to change their definition of good and evil. Being one of the good ones today can only be helpful if the powers that be keep the same definition of good consistent, which they usually don't.
Tl;dr The leopards won't eat my face, so I have nothing to worry about.
And there's your first problem: you say humanity when you almost exclusively talk about the US. Things are distinctly less dystopian in other places.
I basically mean any modern nation.
Thanks for sounding like a cunt.
Your very dystopian view of the world doesn't align with what is going on in a lot of "modern" nations, whatever that definition covers. The EU, NZ, Canada (and others, but I don't follow them) on some topics are progressing quite a bit.
Cool, you must be right. With the greatest absolute view of what life and existence is. I will take your word for it. You are greater than the planets and stars. You are my god now. The all knowing Allah.
It's got to be horrifyingly gratifying to Richard Stallman how thoroughly correct he was about all the dangers of corporate and government misuse of technology for surveillance and control of the masses.
"Well, if people with morals and values won't buy these things, maybe the cops will."
Basically, the glasses are flock. Only we buy and mount the cameras ourselves.
I’m not surprised people consent to this. Meta must be giggling. (They’ll buy and mount the flock cameras themselves!) We are where we are as consumers because people keep throwing their money at bullshit they think they need but do not.
But my music! You’re renting, at best. And now they’re just computer generating slop for you. You know this yet still pay.
But my movies! Did you buy them on disc? No? Then you didn’t buy. You rented. And they could disappear tomorrow. (Clicks to fake buy another movie).
Games? Yeah I slow boiled into Steam myself, though I no longer buy. I have my library, for now, until the current CEO dies and it becomes a sub or something.
Audible? Go ahead. Try to gift your account to someone, or a library, when you die. It’s not your stuff.
Glasses? But look, I have access through the app! You’re not alone.
We made this happen through our dollar votes. That is how we got here. Idk what to do about games, apart from what is available on GOG. But, if I buy movies or music, it’s on disc or LP. Granted the latter is now more difficult because the younger generation uses them as wall ornaments en masse.
They should have put this in Oakleighs first obviously to target the freedom-for-me-but-not-for-thee crowd.
surprised pik-
fuck it it’s not worth the effort
fucking sigh
