SignalTrace: License Plate Readers Now Track Phones, AirPods, and Smartwatches
2d 17m ago by lemmy.today/u/StopTech in StopTech@lemmy.today from web.archive.orgFlock cameras just got even worse
I take out my phone battery when I travel in my car... I also use a cell phone modem to communicate via signal and delta chat. I also have a degoogle e/os phone. I also don't go to places that have these flock cameras in their parking lots. ACE is the place
I can't avoid flock. There's one about every 500ft I feel like. If I go to my in-laws ~5 miles I'm probably on at least 5-7 cameras depending on which route. It's bullshit!! Wish I had a way to blind the cameras while looking inconspicuous in person
FYI: Flock cameras are only powered by the solar panel with no backup power in almost every case. A solar panel will fail to produce power if a majority of it is covered and will be useless if a cell is damaged. Do with that info what you will.
But that would be cause to make a service call since it can't phone home... No "heartbeat".
However, it would be more unfortunate if the lens happened to become really dirty, with a paint-like film of dirt from the rain... Heartbeat alive, checks in, etc. Supposedly no footage or imagery leaves those devices, so shouldn't know whether or not the camera fully functions.
My exit off the highway has one. I could take the train...but so does the parking lot.
