This was so good

I worked at a place that operated continuously 24/7 on 12-hour day/night shifts, and I was on both sides at various points, and this is just so real.

management did not communicate to night shift because they were obviously never around.

we often had to figure out what we were supposed to do just by seeing the state that the previous shift left the place.

because of poor communication between shifts, sometimes the stuff that the previous guy left set up for you, if they bothered to leave anything set up at all, was unhelpful, or even actively detrimental.

the only feedback you got from supervisors is "you're doing that wrong," but they can't tell you how to do it right, because management's idea of "doing it right" makes contradictory demands between safety, quality, and speed, and if they gave clear instructions that would become explicit and carry liability. if the only way to go faster is to cut corners on safety, and they tell you ten times to go faster, but also slip in one time to remember to follow all the safety rules, then they're technically not responsible if you do something unsafe.

even people who hired on eager to work were quickly worn down by the bullshit.

the only reward for good and quick work was more work.

it's a brilliant critique of all these real-life absurdities. only way it could have been more accurate is if they somehow had a mechanic to represent poor sleep, and mandatory overtime so you're working 72 hours in a 7-day period two to three times per month.
