Uyghurs!? What Uyghurs?
Uyghur? I hardly knew 'er!
Ok at least this sub isnt as bad as "memes", where you get banned for anything but leninist cultism
Lol I once got banned from there for "spam":

They have some actual clowns
yep, even going as far as to call the russian polity socialist :P
Yes, I think we all remember when the CCCP dissolved in 1991 so that Russia could finally become socialist. 😂
Hey maybe its somewhat closer to worker control than before 🤷 :P
the actual nazis discovering 9000 bodies in a ukrainian town they occupied in 1943
bruh
According to .ml, Chinese workers still own the production through the state. Like, sure, whatever they say. Bad working conditions and low pay is certainly workers being in charge. I think a lot Chinese workers are realising this, so that's why the CCP is stoking nationalism by claiming and militarised an entire body of ocean to distract the public from domestic issues, which .ml dismiss as nothing. Meanwhile, they go "reeeee" when the US attacked Iran and closed off strait of Hormuz.
I mean the social dividend concept is usually a core part of market socialism. But China does it about as well as any other social democracy, just with a lot of extra authoritarianism in between.
Two things can be bad at the same time.
Don’t dead open inside.
Think about the path our eyes will naturally follow when reading the image.
Why did I read this as: worker democracy is coming right after Only Fans?
Is China really authoritarian? Like based on what?
I mean I'm from a country that has the largest prisoner population of any. Even more than countries with the a much bigger population size like China. We even have legal slavery in prisons. Prisoners here are made to work farms and even fast food restaurants. so maybe I have a high bar for that kind of thing. But every time I hear it I'm like why?
Ah so you’re in the USA. Just be aware, I watched a documentary where (Chinese) workers were trapped on a (Chinese) boat near the Galapagos, and they are essentially prisoners. And just like ours, they earned money too.
For reference: https://youtu.be/2tuS1LLOcsI
Damn so the same thing but just not to the same extent then. Well I guess they're just a lesser evil then 😮💨
Appreciate the vid, I plan to watch it later.
Chinese workers have better pay, better healthcare, better transportation options, higher quality of life, and more benefits than American workers lol.
But we can't ask chinese workers their opinion, now can we?
While inconvenient and marginally limited, you can travel there.
They are not allowed to poo poo the government, They seem to otherwise have about the same level of oppression as their counterparts (class wise) do in the US.
The issues that most of the people in the US purport to be the main source of friction in China are being seen in many of the right-wing bills hitting Congress now.
Unless the US changes course pretty soon, we'll have none of the advantages we had over them and lack many of their advantages.
ITT: Liberals drooling everywhere.
Ok I'm gonna play devil's advocate for the tankies. China made concentration camps for Uyhgurs and planned a cultural genocide by forcing many of them to marry Han Chinese people. BUT there's cheap housing and renewables are widespread all over the country. You win some, you lose some am I right?
Just gotta sacrifice minorities to the minority crushing machine, and all will be well. Surely nothing bad will happen once we run out of minorities.
What's a little violation of human rights in exchange for solar panels, after all?
I imagine no government is all bad to everyone. China has had a tremendous amount of success in improving the lives of the average citizen, but we shouldn't gloss over criticism purely on that basis.
China vs US is like Democrat vs Republican. Like yeah, if you are both going to spy on me, shred human rights, throw people in concentration camps, force me into wage slavery, censor my voice, invade other countries, and on and on, I'd prefer to go with the one who also gives me housing, clean water, usable roads, healthcare, and a modicum of decency.
But it would be great to get those benefits and not have the horror show behind it.
I'd rather have the one without moble execution vans
We live in different Americas.
The mobile execution van, for me and many people in America, fits in the same category as above. "At least I would get healthcare and roads and a place to live."
In fact, I think the vans in China specifically are better than the American execution squads. At least in China they are publicly named for the purpose and there is a public trial.
In America you never know if this one today is going to execute you or not, and if they do it's without arrest or trial. It's just some unaccountable badge who's pissed off and can't get to his wife to take it out on because he's at work.
I imagine no government is all bad to everyone.
I mean, they've been great to rich people.
Like the all that stuff that Adolf guy did, BUT there was cheap housing and the autobahn. Win some lose some?
China's energy is mostly provided by coal, and their coal consumption is increasing every year, regardless of renewables also increasing.
China relies mostly on coal, but consumption is no longer increasing annually; massive renewable expansion has pushed coal usage into a volatile plateau where its anticipated to become a grid backup gradually over time.
Capitalism hasn’t been the answer for decades. Also communism won’t be the savor of us either. Both favor the rich and powerful both are designed to destroy and kill the poor and sick.
China is defacto capitalist.
The same people who make these memes live in a country where they tried several times to ban Muslims from entering in the last decade, and are currently doing actual threats at territorial expansion and installation of puppet governments.
This comment is literally the "Yet you participate in society" comic.
We don't support that, who are you talking to
there are more countries in the world than china and the US. this could easily have come from basically anywhere in europe or australia
Implementing your own Muslim bans and letting the US manage empire isn't much different, but I do agree with the sentiment that one can criticize any government. So, long as your own level of insight/privilege is taken into account.
we do not have muslim bans. what are you talking about?
Sorry, dipped metaphor with things actually happening. Nationalism, Fascism, and anti-immigrant sentiment is growing in every democracy in the world. Even if you don't have a literal Muslim ban loaded in one or more political parties' platforms, there is undoubtedly something that is akin to "immigrants bad". Sitting pretty while the rabid attack dog maintains the status quo that keeps you on top doesn't mean you're blameless in the state of the world.
whataboutism smh
Even worse, false equivalence.
So much anti china propaganda. Ever been there! I have. Any understanding of how the political system works at all? Obviously none
Yes I've been there. China is actually awesome, incredibly friendly people, lots of culture and great work ethic, amazing food. Alas, the other end is much worse: there are no personal freedoms. There's no internet. There's an incredible selfishness forced into the psyche of Chinese people by the incredibly unjust opression. All that just makes you wonder how amazing free China would be.
I hear Taiwan is pretty nice.
Love Taiwan! One of my favorite countries in asia actually
The conceitedness, thinking your limited anecdotal experience applies to everyone. And negates all criticism. How maga of you.
It’s hard to learn what it’s really like to live there, because the people aren’t allowed to speak freely about it.
Naomi Wu tried. Spoke of growing up under the misogynist one child program, being raised as a boy because of it. And the difficulties her Uhyger partner has under the government currently. The government came to her door, and threatened her, her partner etc. Nothing suspicious about that right?
What makes you say that? I know nothing about what it's actually like to live in Ecuador, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Mongolia, India, Chad. Should I assume that they aren't allowed to speak freely in those places too, or is it that English isnt their primary language so there is just less daily life documentation of it?
Because chinese are literally not allowed on the internet where we all hang. It's like that weird homeschooled neighbourhood kid that is not allowed to play outside - of course nobody knows them.
It's actually the opposite: the outside world is not allowed in for the most part, and I think thats actually a really good thing. Look at how social media has poisoned the rest of the world. There are Chinese nationals here on Lemmy, so it seems fairly one way.
What are you even talking about. If I want to go to Lemmy I can but chinese literally can't because Lemmy and even .ml is illegal and blocked lmao which btw is such fucking poetry, chefs kiss.
Lemmy is a social media platform, which has mirrored fascist instances in the past before they were disconnected. Of course it'd be flagged as problematic and against their interests, like any forum that was blocked by the FBI for copyright infringement when most of the posts are not. If you're asking how there are nationals on here despite the site being blocked, I can't answer how but they are.
If it isnt obvious, Lemmy would be blocked because of racists like you on here.
The amount of copium you're on is hilarious
You're the one spouting uneducated claims about a country you've never even researched, free thinker.
The government in China will come after you if you make them look bad.
Please think again about what you said. Anyone can spew any nonsense like this about any country. This kind of propaganda only hurts people, never helps them.
Censorship in the People's Republic of China is mandated by the Chinese Communist Party. It is one of the strictest censorship regimes in the world. The government censors content for mainly political reasons, such as curtailing political opposition, and censoring events unfavorable to the CCP, such as the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre, pro-democracy movements in China, the persecution of Uyghurs in China, human rights in Tibet, Falun Gong, pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong, and aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
