Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds

Great Lakes region, USA. June 2026.

I'm still trying to figure out the proper settings for these birds. A few of the photos turned out alright.

The one that isn't flying looks like he just rolled out of bed.

That hummingbird is my spirit animal

He was scricthing and scratching himself. Looks like he hit the spot.

The answer is shutter speed. 1/4000, 1/6400, even 1/8000; do whatever it takes to get there. Wind your ISO up to a million if you have to.

I struggle with the settings for hummingbirds as well.

I put up a hummingbird feeder and I'm hoping to see these guys eventually!
